I haven't seen any UFC threads, and I was wondering if you guys ever watch MMA.

What were your thoughts on the Machida/Weidman card?

Weidman and Machida put on a great fight, and Uriah Hall fought with a broken toe and still managed to win. I enjoyed the card overall. Better than some of the past cards they have put out.

Is Uriah Hall the guy with the back kick knockout on The Ultimate Fighter last season?

Love UFC. Not so much the others. Just wish they didn't charge so much to watch. Can't justify the cost so just catch the pre-fight card and highlights of the main card.

Yes he is! He is still fighting competition around his level currently. He broke his toe in round 1, bone protruding and all but hid it from the doctor. Used the same leg to land kicks to win him the fight. Rather impressive! Yeah it is pretty hard, I generally find streams of the fights or go to my local buffalo wild wings and watch.

I love the UFC but I haven't been able to watch much of it as of late.

I think UFC was better back around 6-10 years ago, the champions were more likable, and were always ready to fight. Now the champs are divas and are always hurt so we don't get to see them fight twice a year anymore.

Jon Jones refusing to fight someone on short notice a couple of years ago really left a bad taste in my mouth at that time because so many champions had fought people on very short notice in the past. It really sort of bugged me that he'd do that but then he's the champion and that's his choice.

I think part of the problem the last 4-5 years is the fact that you've had guys like GSP, Silva, and Jones that just had such a lock down on their divisions that it made the divisions kind of stale and boring because you were always watching all these guys fighting against one another for the right to go get beaten, usually fairly soundly, by the champion.

Yeah I used to love JJ, and he was one of my faves but he quickly became my least favorite. Heck, I've even seen him fight in person too. I agree he shouldn't be able to pick and choose. He keeps trying to pick and choose his fights.

Now that GSP is retired for now, his division is wide open and I believe will be a revolving door of champions. I want Robbie Lawler to get the belt.
I'm not a big rooter for the Womens Division , there is not much talent and I dislike Ronda.

The oldschool guys were always willing to fight anyone , anywhere at anytime and these guys included : BJ Penn, Forrest Griffin, Tito, Randy Couture, Chuck, Serra, Hughes, Diego Sanchez *prime diego*. As well as the old school pride guys coming in..

Jose Aldo, Cain Velasquez, Anthony Pettis are champs but fight once a year. Really slows the game down.

various takes:
1. Love MMA in general but the UFC is so omnipresent now that it has become almost tedious at times.
2. Golden age to me has been in the 3 years prior to this one. Quality fighters, but reasonable amount of fights so that you missed none of note.
3. I am a fan of Jon Jones and love that he is handling himself like a pro; the UFC certainly protects its own best interests and is making a killing.
4. Talent is rising fast because money is growing.
5. Many of my favorite fights now are the females.
6. Can't wait to see TUF 20.
7. Am very pleased to see Chael and other TRT guys finally have some sort of real penalty. --Not against TRT use if legal but if illegal it is a huge advantage via cheating.
8. Champs usually fight more than once a year for sure. The 3 guys named above have been seriously injured.
9. Pride guys definitely fought anyone because wins and losses weren't as important as fan reaction and value.
10. A lot of the old school guys fought with heart but lacked talent beyond a specialization; that has changed.

BTW, whom exactly did Jon Jones not fight?
He fought former teammate and friend Rashad, fought Gus, fought Shogun, fought Machida, fought Texeira.
He's beaten more former champs than anyone in the org.
He's cleared the decks a couple of times.

3. Not aware of Jones and his infamous instagram rants as of late lol? The past 6 months have been a PR nightmare for him and the UFC.
5. The females put on wars, but the division still doesn't have much talent yet. It will take another 2 years before we see GOOD competition. No disrespect to Tate, and Cat though.
7. I love Chael as a fighter and was disappointed in his tests. His loss was big for the UFC because people paid to watch him Win or LOSE.
8. It only seems like a few belts get defended more than once a year due to the injuries. I believe interim belts should be used more often in these cases.
9. Yeah I agree, that is also why the pride guys are so loved yet some fighters nowadays can never get the reputation or fan support for their PPV numbers.
10. Agree to an extent.

My problems with the UFC are that they have watered down the cards way too much. I remember once a main card started 3 years ago, I couldn't miss a single fight because the cards were so stacked. Nowadays I feel I can miss the first 2 fights or so and the only fights of importance tend to be the main and co mains.

*** Jon Jones was trying to duck Gustaffson in the rematch, which made no sense because I had Gus winning their first fight. Jones keeps trying to pick and choose his fights and as of late has been discrediting his opponents on why they shouldn't fight him. He eventually signed, but after Dana pretty much forced him to do so.**

I've met Jones when he wasn't so cocky, great with fans. Now that his ego is so high, ehhhh different person entirely.

He was scheduled to fight Henderson. Hendo got hurt a week or two out from the fight and Chael Sonnen stepped up and on short notice agreed to fight Jon Jones. Jones refused to take the fight.

That's where a lot of people got angry with him as the champion and part of that anger is because he's a Greg Jackson guy and Greg Jackson guys are known for being heavily strategy and plan oriented and people pointed that out as to why Jones refused the fight because he wouldn't have the time to come up with a fight plan rather than stepping in and beating the guy, as other champions have done on short notice.

I like Jones, a lot, always have. But I thought him turning down a fight on short notice the way he did, as if Chael had some sort of advantage agreeing to the same short notice, wasn't good. Especially since his refusal to take the fight caused the card to have to be canceled.

I agree with #10 so much.

The whole MMA world has become so damn good that you don't see as much of that anymore. You really do have to be pretty damn well rounded at this point to be a top guy.

Yeah, I remember when Werdum was just a BJJ specialist who got the uppercut from hell from JDS a while ago.

Now he is fighting for the title due in part to his improvements as a stand up guy as well.

Again this is silly IMHO.
Jones fought and completely, brutally outclassed Chael Sonnen in his own strength, wrestling.
The truth is Sonnen knew about the Hendo injury BEFORE JONES and was part of Hendo's TC for Jones.
Jones was told last minute. No bueno. Greg Jackson rightfully vetoed taking that change that late.
He gets paid to do a job and he did it.

Sonnen had zero right to be in the ring fighting for a LHW title.
He was a high level gate keeper at 185 and nothing more.

IMHO it is completely unprofessional to ask a guy to train for months for a fight then change opponents last minute.

The UFC likes to make people their b-word and order them about. Yet DW freaked when they tried to put Ronda on the spot to fight in a couple months.
Ronda said.. umm I am scheduled for surgery, peace out.

Jones fought Gus winning by close decision but showing tremendous heart against the only guy who has the same strengths at 205.
Now the rematch is signed.
Fans are crying because it took a week extra to sign it?? Get real.

That's as fake as Chael Sonnen with his pseudo wrestling promotionary crap.

Only real disagreement other than being a big fan of Jon Jones is the women.
At 135 the class is talented and only the UFC failing to sign more girls kept it lagging behind.
115 is absolutely packed with talent as TUF 20 will show.
The UFC actually brought in 3 or 4 of those girls before the show started on contract and pulled them off the show.

Back to Jon. He is the most talented fighter in the sport and possibly in the sports history.
The damage he has done and domination he has shown over future hall of famers is absolutely staggering.
He has had one close fight in his entire career.
I am guessing the rematch isn't as close.
Jones plus Greg Jackson making adjustments is probably too much for Gus.

I miss this man.

He was definitely the first great.
Good enough Samba to beat wrestlers, iron granite chin and incomparable power in his fists.

But the fight game did pass him by at the end. Fighters now are good in all areas at even middling fight orgs.

I didn't say he wasn't better than Sonnen. I always thought he was.

I didn't say Chael deserved anything. I said he stepped up and said he'd take the fight.

The champion would not. I don't care what reasoning people wrap it up in. We've seen people have to step up and take a different fight then what they've been training months for, on short notice, many times in the history of the UFC. Jones was the first champion to flat out refuse to do it.

Now he has that right. I'm not saying he doesn't. He can do as he pleases and that's great.

And I can choose to think it's weak and have it make me not like him as much. That's just how it goes.

only issue is others have done it.
GSP did it, Ronda just did it. Rampage did to make a movie.
Half a dozen others have used questionable injury excuses.
Silva was notoriously slow to sign for fights... not out of fear but out of lack of desire to start training, lol.

This isn't some fledgling org that has to have one fight to succeed.

The UFC pinned the stuff publicly on Jon which it hadn't done previously to a champ I can recall except to Tito.

Sonnen getting champ fight money was the travesty not that Jones delayed that fight a couple months IMHO.
