GSP I missed if it happened so I'll defer to your knowledge of that. Unless you're talking about now when he decided to retire rather than than give Henderson his rightful rematch. In which case I'll agree here and say I lost respect for GSP, whose been my favorite fighter for years, because it seems pretty clear to me that he decided to retire rather than fight, and most likely lose, to a talented and hungry fighter, who in all honesty should have won the first fight.

Ronda didn't duck a fight. She broke her hand and is having surgery. That's a completely different thing. Jones wasn't hurt he just didn't want to take a fight with Sonnen on short notice. Completely different worlds.

To my knowledge Rampage was not a champion when he made that movie. He ducked out of the Rashad fight to make the movie.

And, again, I'd feel differently on Jones if he were hurt or had plans to do something else at the time, rather than fight, but the difference is he wasn't hurt and he was already scheduled to be fighting on that date. He was already training for months to fight on that date. He didn't want to have to fight Sonnen on short notice.

And, as I recall, Sonnen wasn't the first guy offered the fight. Other fighters were offered the fight for the title and turned down the title fight because they didn't want to fight Jones on short notice. Sonnen was the guy who said he'd do it, short notice or not.

I don't hate Jones like some do for it. I don't boo him. I don't think he's not a great fighter or amazing because of it. I just don't like him as much as I once did and I just don't care much more that decision.

BTW, let me correct my own statement above.
Fedor was the first true MMA great that I watched in his prime.
I am sure there were others before I started watching a decade ago.

btw, is anyone wants a slightly used fedor affliction shirt i have a couple, rofl.
i'd put them in a case in the media room if my kids wouldn't make fun of me.

GSP dodged Hendricks before the first fight too.
He clearly had issues beyond fighting as the retirement showed.
He wasnt running anymore than Bones he just didn't feel it at the time.

I like Bones MORE because he told the UFC and DW to fly a kite.
UFC fighters are professional athletes not enslaved gladiators to be ordered about.
It is not his fault Hendo got hurt, waited a couple weeks to notify the UFC and had Sonnen calling for the fight before the announcement was even official.
I appreciate that Bones said no to that clown game nonsense.
Respect the belt.

The issues with that Bones/Sonnen fight were many. And Sonnen gets ZERO credit from me for agreeing to fight Jones.
I'd fight Jones too for that money and likely be just as competitive... i.e. none.

Since 2011 he has fought 9 times.
He has wins over 4 former title holders and the only top 5 guy at his weight class he hasn't yet fought is Cormier who was his initial choice of opponent and has been at the weight class for all of 1 fight but offers Jones the most danger in terms of wrestling and power.

After Gus again and Cormier he probably HAS to move to HW to get meaningful fights.

He pretty much ended the career of Rampage, Rashad, Shogun and Machida at 205 in the UFC.
He choked out Machida up against the fence in one of the most impressive displays I have seen.
He absolutely dominated Shogun and Chael; to the point you felt sorry for them.
He literally broke Vera and Hamill.

Like I said I'm a big fan and I like him.

But I'm a big believer that when you're the champion then you fight whoever, whenever.

There is none of this "Oh that fight doesn't work for me on that timeframe."

That's just my opinion.

He's definitely the best in the business at this point though. He might be one of the absolute best ever. He's as dominate as anyone I've seen. Crazy talented fighter.

Bones is the most gifted physically in that division, he is a heavy weight with a wingspan.

The range of his gives him such an amazing advantage against anyone. He can almost elbow you in the face without ever coming in too close.

Bones does quite a bit of bush league stuff in the form of eyepokes though which he does not need to do because of his talent level.

In every fight, he sticks his open palm out, fingers extended into the eyes of his opponents. He doesn't need to do this. I can go back and find him do this in every fight just about.

I also give ALOT of respect to Chael in stepping up to fight Jones on short notice.

He went from fighting the best fighter on the planet at the time arguably, twice in a row, to fighting Jon Jones on short notice. 3 fights in a row with 2 of the best fighters in the world. That takes quite a set to do that.

Also keep in mind Chael went up in weight to fight Jones. Jones has a significant weight advantage on Chael come fight day. That is why he got rag dolled so easily, especially in a wrestling match. This is the same for ALL weight classes not just this fight. But....... Jones almost lost to Chael if that fight left the 1st round ;) that broken toe!

He's still a very talented fighter, one of the most talented I've seen.

I'll say his little shoving thing with DC at that PC the other day seems a little bit like a guy whose cracking under the pressure of all the negative comments about his toughness and heart.

I was surprised he lost his cool and was throwing bombs. I do love the fact that the little guy in the middle had the best reaction, hands down to the situation. He just got tossed, haha.

I was really surprised to see him lose his cool there. And then the flexing and what not for the camera afterwards was just...weird, at least from him.

If Tito Ortiz did this when he was fighting you wouldn't think twice about it but it was strange coming from Jones.

Yeah from Tito it was expected, we kinda just knew what persona he carried. It is impossible to tell who the real Jon Jones is sometimes. Did you catch the sportscenter interview of him and DC a few hours after this happened? That was a weird one as well.

No I missed that one. I'll have to look it up.

I cant decide if it's all the pressure from the last couple of years being heaped on Jones or if it's DC just really getting under his skin.

I hope DC humbles Jones a bit. The division might become a bit stale if DC gets whooped.

Thanks for the videos man. It's greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to this fight even more now. I'm actually going to probably have to order this PPV and watch it live instead of finding it later. This one should be good.

It didn't occur to me, until these videos, that Jones has a 13" reach advantage!!!! That's crazy! That's a tough advantage for DC to over come.

I hope this is an absolute war.

DC will be a very different test.
It will be the first times Jones is a ctually the lesser wrestler.
I think this is a very interesting fight.
It may well be a points contest with DC taking shots to win take downs.
I think DC has a very real shot to win.
He can take punches to get position and is probably the more powerful puncher.
If he can survive knees and elbows he can win.

Various:
Any prior thought Chael/Hamill et al would be the better wrestler proved quite false.
Chael wasn't even a top 10 fighter at 205 which is why his "shot" was hilariously WWE nonsense and never should have happened.
Even with the broken toe that fight was 100 to 0.
It is a shame the fan base is so stupid and pays for that crap thus we see it more often.
Hopefully Bones isn't just stealing Chael's nonsensical WWE promotionary crap to make money.
He and DC have always been respectful and complimentary before this fight.

Yeah I agree, i do think Jones will try to outwrestle DC to make a point though. Whether that is succesful or not, it will be interesting!
My worry is the elbows from the guard if Jones gets taken down. He has very nasty elbows that could hurt DC.

Yeah Chael had to go UP in weight to even get the fight. That was a poor decision because Jones had such a strength and weight advantage that he could just pick him up.

I enjoyed Jones reaction to the broken toe, he didn't take it too well haha. Meanwhile Uriah Hall recently had his bone sticking out of his broken foot and continues to fight for another 10 + minutes! That was quite awesome to watch. He even threw kicks with that foot. If you haven't seen the latest Hall fight, you should watch it. Very brave fighter.

This fight better be worth my PPV money lol. The last time I wanted to see a grudge match this bad was Rashad vs Rampage and that turned out uneventful.

Jones handled the toe plenty well until the fight was over.
After the adrenaline dump tho he almost feigned lol.
But during the fight? That was the most one sided mess I have seen.
Chael didn't land anything or stop anything.

Chael went up because he got chased out of 185 with losses.
He didn't want to be a gate keeper (i.e. make main card but not main event money) so he moved up and talked his way into fights over his head.
It was ridiculous but Dana allowed that nonsense until Chael was finally busted umpteen times for using banned substances.

I hope this is a classic and it nets us another couple fights but I truly expect Bones to beat DC by decision then rematch and beat Gus in another close fight.
After that I think he moves up to HW and gets beat pretty soundly by DC training partner by Cain.
He should probably take 2 or 3 other HW fights first but that doesn't seem to be the way the UFC promotion machine rolls.

I've been watching since about 2002 or so. I was a big Frank Mir fan. His BJJ was so much different than what people were doing in the HW division at the time. I am not a big of a fan as I used to be, but the evolution of MMA has been astonishing. These young guys are so good at every discipline.
