Maybe we can blame the imprint of failure that the Cardinals left on him since taking him second overall in the 2001 draft, but that's a pretty hefty payday the Cowboys just gave offensive tackle Leonard Davis, a guy who never remotely played up to his billing in Arizona.

Dallas needs both a right tackle and a right guard, and Davis has played both positions, without much distinction. But six years of underachievement in Arizona got him a seven-year deal worth a reported $49.6 million (see earlier Nate Clements' note), with the important part being the $18.75 million of guaranteed money in the deal.

It just goes to show, when you're 6-foot-6, 366 pounds, and you just report to work almost every day, good things can happen.

Lived in PHX for 9 years and this is the first year they've been televised. EVER. Even ESPN Thursday night and Sunday night games were blacked out. SO......Unless you braved the 110+ temperatures prior to the new stadium, you know nothing. Now that they have the new digs they've sold out and the games have been on TV. Oh yeah.....I've had the NFL ticket for 3 years now and they even blacked out the games locally. It totally sucked when they were in our division.

And here I thought I just never watched them because their games aren't in HD ever.

Live and learn...

Bucky Brooks telled me he's overrated though.

You're wavering, and I don't like it.

You don't need to be right or wrong. Just be loud either way.

You need to place your foot firmly in the "Davis is made of Country Crock" camp with Bucky Brooks, Bucky Dent, Bucky Lasik, and my childhood friend Jeffrey who we called Bucky, and got ran over on his Big-wheel.

Begging your pardon, sir. I've hadn't the opportunity to waver at anyone all day. I've been indoors.

Horrifyingly bad.

But I'm cracking up.

Why do gorillas have big nostrils?

Because they have big fingers.

What did George Washington say to his men as they were about to cross the Delaware river?

Get in the boat.

Thanks folks....I'll be here all week. Tip your waitresses.

Well I can't say I am excited about this signing (rather had Steinbach), however if he is slotted in as RG and Columbo is re-signed, that will be one enormous line with great potential. I don't think Davis was nearly as bad as people think, he probably is more of a victim of his draft position and the expectations that come along with it more than anything.
As far as the money goes...it simply doesn't matter to me...it's Jerry's dough and the deal appears to be somewhat cap friendly, so who gives a crap???

On the contrary there's a great deal of whining going on. Visitors would think some people either are betting the mortgage and kids' college funds on who Dallas signs in FA, or that some posters own the Cowboys rather than Jones.

This ain't fantasy football.

I do not see Jerry Jones spending this much money out of desperation. Davis may just really elevate his game with the Cowboys. It is not as if Jones set the bar on spending. Olinemen are getting compensation of elite quarterbacks now. Supply and demand folks.

My biggest question about Davis is, "Would Parcells have brought this guy in?"
Not sure what you meant by this...but here is what Parcells would do...start Rob Pettiti 16 games (over half when the guy was playing on 1 leg)...then cut him...then we find out the guy cannot even get a job ANYWHERE in the NFL...here is something else Parcells would do, draft Jacob Rogers with a 2nd round pick, then Rogers promptly has surgery and NEVER plays a regular season snap in Dallas..or ANYWHERE in the NFL for that matter...or maybe Parcells will use a 2nd round pick on a C...then spend the majority of his career in Dallas complaining about the size and strength of the guy..because in case you did not know...the got shrunk and got weaker over a 4 year period right before our very eyes...or perhaps he had someone much bigger and stronger than him pose as him for 4 years at Wisoncson...or we can't forget Parcells telling us that TOrrin Tukcer was the most athletic lineman on the Cowboys...the same Torring Tucker who is not in the NFL right now...

....my point is, I KNOW LONGER CARE WHAT PARCELLS WOULD DO...and it is a shame that the Cowboys got so bad that there still amongst us that THINK Parcells is or was the only thing the could save the Cowboys..in case you missed it...we won Super Bowls BEFORE Parcells...won ZERO with him...AND WILL WIN ONE WITHOUT HIM

...not trying to be harsh...I know we ALL bleed silver and blue...but get Parcells out of your system...if you listen to the coaches, players, employees at Valley Ranch and Jerry...it sounds like they are all ready to move on...we are the Dallas Cowboys..not the Bill Parcells Cowboys...let's roll

that's only because an "elite" qb isn't up for renewal right now. if one were, you'd see $ go way up even more.

Very true iceberg. Once the cap hit over a hundred million it was off to the new gold rush.
