I could care les what anyone's opinion is but the backlash is coming from having 30 different threads to complain about the same thing

There are just as many threads praising these moves as there are complaining about them my friend. So all the threads that don't agree with you are too much but the ones praising todays choices are great? Wow talk about double standard.

If you don't like the discussion, leave. It's just a thread. Who put you in charge of it?

Position Specific Traits

TraitComments
Movement/Space Easily exposed in space. Struggles to reach and initiate contact at the second level. Lacks adequate balance.

Pass Blocking Will be a liability as a left tackle in the NFL. Does a good job of initiating contact an effective punch and riding defenders outside the pocket. Lacks the foot speed and flexibility to match up against above-average pass rushers. Sluggish out of his stance. Stiff hips.

Quickness Heavy ankles, but has adequate lateral movement. Has quick, active hands, though.

Run Blocking Good technician and position blocker. Lacks explosiveness and does not dominate at the point of attack.

Strength Solid all-around strength, but he lacks the explosiveness and power to make up his athletic deficiencies. Has the strong hands to lock and sustain his blocks.

Technique Takes good angles, initiates contact and positions himself well. Keeps his hands inside the shoulders and keeps his legs moving. Bends at the knees and overextends too often. Struggles to sink his hips low and maintain a flat back.

General Comments:
Although Marten had a strong senior season for the Boston College Eagles, his minimal athletic ability cannot be masked by good technique at the next level. If he can improve his lower body strength and add weight, Marten might have a future as a right tackle, but he'll likely start his career as a backup. Has some versatility, having played guard in the past, but doesn't project to be a starter at that position either.

Projected Round:

5th

I honestly cannot say that I am thrilled about this guy. Seems like a project at best that we could have got later. I don't know why everyone attacks posters just because they don't agree with the selections though. Well at least we didn't draft Mason Crosby......Yet.

Stop with facts. To quote Jack Nicolson, "They can't handle the truth."

Pffft. 5th round projection. Great.

Hmmmm well SI.com has him listed as a 2nd round pick

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2007/draft/players/2909.html

POSITIVES: Nice-sized small-area blocker who works best on the strong side. Patient, plays with good pad level and gets after assignments. Strong at the point, controls opponents and effectively uses his hands.
NEGATIVES: Struggles to adjust, lacks lateral blocking range and playing balance. Not effective in motion.
ANALYSIS: A good-sized blocker who plays with a nasty attitude, Martin is a multi-dimensional lineman with better-than-average potential for the next level. Best in confined quarters at guard, yet also will get consideration as a right tackle.
PROJECTION: Late Second Round

do you think you can find a publication that thinks buster davis is a 3-4 linebacker?

Ware is a linebacker, that was a big point of Parcells "I'm making a linebacker" or something along those lines. Merriman is a pass rusher, Ware was thought to be a linebacker by BP. Just because Ware is also good at rushing the passer doesn't mean he isn't a linebacker.
Pssst: BP is gone. Ware's a pass rusher.

What a huge disappointment. Yeah, sure, both of our offensive tackles will be out from under their contracts in the next 24 months. But offensive tackle wasn't a need. #4 WR is a need. Please Jerry, if we don't address the #5 WR position tommorrow the entire future of the franchise is in serious jeopardy.

Man, I'm so jealous of the Lion and Cardinal fans. Look at how sick their WR corps will be next year. Now there's two great franchises !!!

And Sporting News has him as a 4th and PFW has him as a 3-4th rounder.

The whole point of this is that this is a guy who we traded a 2nd round pick away and then we ended up taking a guy who the consensus is that he would have been generally a second day pick.

I hope he becomes the second coming of erik Williams. But I think we did not get good value after trading away the second rounder.

He was projected by various sources anywhere between the 2nd and the 4th, and we took him in the 3rd. That's not bad at all. You act as if he was supposed to go undrafted.

And you also act like we didn't get a 4th rounder (and a late round swap) in the process. Who would you have taken late in the 2nd that's head-and-shoulders better than Marten and a 4th?

specifically no but PFW compared him to londn fletcher. Does nothing but make plays.
