Romo also said Dak was a smart and accurate QB. Romo has to say certain things he doesn't believe. Just like any announcer. Watch the play again and you will see how bad the throw was. It was not a long pass.
Haha fair. I did think Romo went over the top with the throw but I think he was kind of forced into it as Jim Nantz had just described it as a great throw

I don't care.

With 14 seconds left they put their chances on the foot speed of a 60 year old man to run up and set the ball. It was a stupid play in that situation.
This. Exactly this. Enough with trying to place the blame for our stupidity on the ref who couldn't believe how stupid it was and probably was standing there in shock like the rest of us.

How does Dak not know the ref has to touch the ball. He’s not a rookie anymore.

There are NFL players who have said they weren't aware there was overtime played or how it worked. This is officiating minutiae that all too often players learn about this way.

I completely change my opinion on this and say the ref completely botched it.

1. Romo said the empire only had to touch the ball before the snap. This is correct. In fact @DOUBLE WING provided a GIF from the Cowboys-Rams game from the past showing how a touch is sufficient.

2. If you go to around 50 seconds, what actually screwed the Cowboys was the ref re-spotting the ball, only to place it back where Biadasz had already set it. It’s that DELAY which looks like it caused the time to run out.

So the ref completely botched it

What are you talking about?

Where Biadasz originally set the ball to where the ref spotted it was was at least 1 to 1.5’ difference.

AND, I would add the ref actually allowed the Cowboys a very favorable spot. Look at where Dak’s knee is at apx. the 26-yard line.

Remember, when you slide feet first you are giving up on the play. You do not need to be touched down. It’s where your knee goes down first and where the ball is when it does.

Biadasz tried spotting the ball at the 23.5 yard line. The ref tried putting it at the 24.5 yard line but was pushed out the way under Biadasz and he let it go at about the 24 yard line.

He actually did something wrong with the ball. He gave it to the Center to snap it, instead of looking for the ref and saying “here is the ball, we are already lined up and your wasting time”..

at least then they could have cried about it.

Dak’s explanation in the OC shows he still doesn’t get it. He says he spiked the ball. But that has zero to do with the issue, which is, you gave it to the center to hike it to you, when the ref is supposed to set the ball. This is what he said:

He then says,

Sounds like he’s making stuff up. First he says he’s not even sure what happened, then he says an umpire usually just taps it (sure Buddy), then he says he knew the ref was going to touch the ball…
Spiking the ball with 0 seconds on the clock doesn't do it, sad that Dak doesn't understand this. The MM it's everyone else's fault is a cancer on the team. MM is a joke as a HC just that simple he still is babbling it was the right play. Sad that Jerry keeps him employed.

Here is the sequence….

1. Look at Dak’s knee and where he is apx. at the 26-yard line

2. Now look where Biadasz tries to spot the ball originally (also shown with the arrow above) at apx. the 23.5-yard line

3. Now look where the ref tries to re-spot the ball (still favorably to the Cowboys) at about the 24.5-yard line. The ball really should have been spotted at around the 26-yard line

4. Even then, the ref allows Biadasz to move the ball up in an effort to expedite the play

The refs job is not to stand in shock. I agreed with you earlier - it was a stupid call and too high-risk - doesn't change the fact the officials could have done the job they are paid to do there better, and there's a solution. Use the College rule stop the clock while the chains move, this way we don't have to discriminate against older officials who are not quick enough to stay up with the play because that will be coming if this happens to the wrong team and at the wrong time.

No amount of bad coaching, stupid play calling, boneheaded pre-snap penalties, bad throws by Dak, drops by Cee Dee and Amari, poor pass coverage in our secondary, poor pass rush by our line excuses bad officiating that has a decisive impact on the outcome of the game. It's called football not refereeball for a reason, and that's because football players are supposed to decide games, and too often we see incompetent and inconsistent officiating playing an outsized role in deciding games and I know we saw that again yesterday.

We always say either the quarterback sucks and the defense has to be perfect, because of him or the defense sucks and the quarterback has to be perfect, because of them, but when neither of them suck we still need the refs not to suck, and they suck..

It's not a conspiracy - not against the Cowboys anyway, or even in favor of anyone else though with money never rule anything out. It's. - more of a confederacy of dunces, with maybe subconscious or confirmation bias playing too big a role in how calls are made and who they're made against and when added to a complete lack of competency and consistency week to week, along with lack of clarity from the League addressing the inconsistencies in calls or just plain mistakes.

It's our job to fix the things we can fix on the practice field. But we can't fix incompetent inconsistent or unclear officiating anywhere. Only the NFL can. And as long we just take it quietly, they won't do what needs to be done for the good of the game as a whole, and if that benefits us too all the better.

Yes. But we were. All pros need to do their job regardless of what other pros do or don’t do. They need full time accountable refs.
Refs ARE held accountable. You get enough bad grades, you don't get to ref certain games.
What is going to be the accountability difference between part-time and full-time refs?

I know there’s a zillion threads about this, but I haven’t seen this posted.

I was in section C312 and I had a perfect view of the final seconds. My friend, seated next to me, was recording those last sections on his cell phone.

Yeah, it probably wasn’t the best play call but what I can tell you is that there was plenty of time still on the clock when Dak slid. He didn’t do anything wrong with the ball. There’s one referee who is charged with placing it.

Now you can call this conspiratal, you can say that this particular referee was daydreaming or maybe he just never expected a QB draw, but he was 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage when the play started and he stayed there until the moment that Dak slid.

Then, and only then, did he start sprinting toward the line to spot the ball. I watched this with my own eyes. No matter what Dak did with the ball or who he handed it to, there was a snowball’s chance in inferno that his referee was going to get there in time. None.

So go ahead and blame Kellen Moore. And trust me, I’m not one to say the fix was in. But the game was a comedy of errors by the officials and that ball should have been spotted with enough time for one more play call.

Remember one more thing:

There were controversial outcomes in the games against both the Raiders and Cardinals. If Dallas wins one of those games, they were playing Philly yesterday. If they win both, they had a bye week.

I get it - play well enough that the outcome can’t come down to a play decided by the referees. OK. But we were robbed yesterday, pure and simple.

Flame away.

The curious thing for me was on the play at halftime against LA the back judge sprinted in and tapped the ball than ran straight backward toward his position the field. I would imagine he was probably as close if not closer to the play as Dak sild, so why didn't he run straight up and mark the ball instead of the umpire trailing from behind then having to slowdown and fit through the O-Line before marking the ball? Everyone knew we were spiking the ball there the moment Dak took off. I suspect if this Back Judge had made the same effort as the back judge did in that instance in LA we get the spike and one more crack at i. I think the Umpire is let at fault here then on the delay of game incident where he basically blocked Tyler from snapping the ball even after he completed his proper job there, and feel like the Back Judge failed there

. Again I just said it's not a conspiracy, but it's just funny and disturbing how in the same situations, refs only consistency is their inconsistency and fan or not a lot of times it seems to 100% favor our opponents. Opener in LA Last year, we're trying to get a late score deep ball to Gallup caught ruled OPI when no sign of a blatant push. Opener in Tampa Bay this year Bucs trying to get a late score deep ball to Godwin caught replay shows clear push-off by Godwin no OPI. Clock at -00 no fault of ours we get delay of game, Arizona runs clock down purposely gets to 00 no delay of game. San Francisco O-Lineman flinches our defender reacts off-side. Our O- Lineman flinches same way false start. Clockwork.

It is subconcious or confirmation bias rising to a level of conspiracy? No. But is it really bad officiating that shouldn't be accepted and thus further encouraged? Yes.

I dunno...all I can say is there should be SOME kind of penalty on this ref. Illegal touching, roughing the Dak......improper ball placement...SOMETHING sheesh!

We shouldn't have been in a POSITION where we had to leave it in the hands of the refs.

agree 100%……but how does one explain an official that was almost 30 yards behind the spot where Dakota slid……it was the perfect storm of ineptitude by all parties and is being lambasted by a lot of the media as well as fans……but I agree, this offense has often waited to late to wake up and putting themselves in that position affords these kind of results

that official was literally the farthest away from the slide and he should have been aware that every second counts, AT THiS TIMe OF THE GAME, but I think he just crapped the bed

I think the rule has changed , the guy who spots the ball is on the offensive side of the ball where he used to be on the defensive side of the ball.

I blame Dak he knows that the ref needs to touch the ball first not the centre....that last play is on him..
