We wont do that to people who actually kill other people. What makes you think we would do it for somebody who didn't who up for work?

What? Forcing people to be productive or leave? Even in Utopian Society, crimes still get punishment of prison.

Did you listen to the video from the OP?

I think I am right on point

You responded to Reverend Conehead whom I believe was responding to my post about Utopian Society and hence. You responded to an off-topic post since it wasn't about Universal Income.

...but I digress. I'm not here to argue your point about what you thought you were responding to.

Who said Conehead was responding to your off Topic post?

I've wondered if this could work, but I'm not sure. My big question would be how would you get people to do the really obnoxious, gross, and dangerous jobs like cleaning out the sewer, working on power lines, etc.?
Breed 'em.

That's not what you said. This is what you said:

"If you don't work, you don't eat and are forced to leave the society. You starve to death and die all alone."

Where does this happen in America?

Well, I'll try and answer some of these questions.

Q: how would you get people to do the really obnoxious, gross, and dangerous jobs like cleaning out the sewer, working on power lines, etc.?

A: you come up with a formula that essentially picks the job for you. Eventually it becomes linked to your family and that becomes the job your locked into for life and not just yours but your childrens. We've seen this before in history. It's a Cast System. The other source is for people who do not agree with whomever is in power. There families suddenly get assigned to the sewer and it become a club to beat people into submission with.

Q: I've wondered if this could work

A: No, it won't work because nobody wants to be limited in their opportunity and nobody excels if there is no catalyst to work harder or improve. Eventually society breaks down. This is how England worked for hundreds of years. You had one guy who owned everything and payed wages to people but also taxed them to eventually pay for the wages. Entire generations were locked into the same job.

This is basically a marketing job on an old idea that sucked. JMO

I said you are forced to leave. (leaving alone won't kill you, you could go and become a pirate!!!) The starve to death and die all alone was a laughing point. The society isn't killing you, you die if you don't do something.

OK, so again, we don't do that now. Why would we all of a sudden, start doing that later?

Automation would / could alleviate this burden. Hence why I said in response to a post about automation needing to stop was incorrect. There are other jobs that could be done especially with advancement of technology.

It's like Blockbuster. They failed to innovate and then fell on hard times, when if they would have just moved with the times. They would have been in a better situation.

You're basing that on money, but if you get rid of money. People will improve themselves and therefore those around them. That is the entire idea behind a Utopian Society.

Right now we don't make them leave. We just let them live in the street. I'm not sure the point of your argument. The difference is we wouldn't let them live in the street just as stores and shops don't let them sleep in their isles.

Change can and does happen all the time.

Finland is already ending its Basic Income experiment......moving from unconditional welfare to conditional workfare

Now, the experiment is ending. The Finnish government has opted not to continue financing it past this year, a reflection of public discomfort with the idea of dispensing government largess free of requirements that its recipients seek work.

■ Read more: Inside Finland’s basic income experiment

Finland has actually reversed course on that front this year, adopting rules that threaten to cut benefits for jobless people unless they actively look for work or engage in job training.

Never should have started. Nothing should be free. When you give stuff away free of any requirements. You get bums who absorb it and return nothing.

It's truly sad that humans only species that has needed to work to survive. And when I say work, I mean work a job, not work to catch their food like other species do. No other being on this planet has to spend so much time away from family for 30 to 40 years (or more) of their lives. And by the time we get to enjoy living life like it should have meant to be, you're too old and tired. Not only that, but will we live long enough to enjoy it?

What a depressing thought that is.

Other species don't get vacations and security and can't ride to the Supermarket or McDonalds when hungry

We have more than enough leisure time

No one works before 18 or after 65 more or less and 40 hours a week still leaves 128 hours a week for rest and relaxation

Not so depressing imo

You can always move to the wilderness and survive off the land. There are a lot of people that still do that today. The main benefit to that was you spend most of the time with your family, because it was required that they pitch in and help. You know, like a Utopian Society. Everyone does their part and everyone gets feed and a place to sleep. ;)
