There are mysteries and no secret codes needing to be deciphered here. This team is getting beat at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Our running backs are averaging less than 2 yards before contact. Our QB is getting maybe two seconds to throw the ball and is getting pressured on over 25% of his throws. The offense can't function like that I don't care who you have at the skill positions. We all knew this line would have some struggles to start because of two rookies starting. But none of us saw Zack Martin getting thrown to the ground on the regular and Steele being a shell of himself coming. This can better and it needs to .. and soon. Whatever they are working on in practice is not working so they need to change it up. I thought Solari could fix it and I thought McCarthy "got it" when it came to running the ball at least in the red zone. I was wrong on both counts. At least I have been so far.
I’ve been saying that Martin is not the player he was for some time now and was shouted down by the homers on this site. It was not a good move to extend Martin when he held out and pay him.
We should have moved on from Martin before his holdout, but the holdout was a bright line that the Cowboys should not have crossed. Anyone who was remotely objective should have favored moving on from Martin at that point.
Paying Steele a massive new deal after an injury instead of a prove it deal was an idiotic move as well. You are paying Steele based on past results and crossing your fingers and hoping for the best.
The Dak deal was the most idiotic of all the moves the Cowboys have made. He has always wilted in the big moments and suddenly by almost doubling his salary you cut the odds of winning a SB even more.
In spite of of the stupidity of doing Dak’s deal—-if you are going to extend Dak, you have to make some hard choices around Dak and we double down with Ceedee and back up the brinks truck for him too.
The Cowboys stupidly overpay their own guys for past performance and have to go cheap in free agency. They have learned nothing from overpaying Witten, Dez, Sean Lee, Martin, Steele, Lawrence, Spencer, Zeke, Dak, Miles Austin, Gurode, Crawford. The list is so long it’s a wonder we have even managed to stay relevant.
