Jeff Ireland will be Miami's new general manager.
Ireland, 37, agreed to a deal with the Dolphins today after meeting with Bill Parcells for the last two days. Ireland has been the Cowboys Vice President of College and Pro Scouting since 2005, taking over for Larry Lacewell.
He and Parcells, the Dolphins' executive vice president of football operations, developed a tight bond in Parcells' time as Cowboys coach.
It's official: Ireland's gone ... "immediately"

The Dolphins just put out a press release, trumpeting the hire of Cowboys director of college and pro scouting Jeff Ireland as the team's new general manager, something Todd reported on a little while ago. The important piece of news on this expected move is that Miami is saying it is "immediate", meaning the Cowboys won't force him to stay in Dallas through the draft, as some thought they would.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins are close to hiring Cowboys exec Jeff Ireland to be the first General Manager of the Bill Parcells era.
Ireland, the V.P. of college and pro scouting in Dallas, was immediately linked to Parcells, even before Parcells was headed to Miami. Ireland’s name first came up when it looked like the Tuna would be taking over the Falcons.
The only other person interviewed for the job was Jets director of college scouting Joey Clinkscales. Some league insiders believe, however, that the Clinkscales interview was intended merely to comply with the spirit of the Rooney Rule, which does not technically apply to the filling of front-office jobs.

Dolphins finalizing hiring of Jeff Ireland as GM
The Dolphins are currently in the process of finalizing the hiring of Jeff Ireland as their new general manager.
Club owner Wayne Huizenga flew to the team's training facility at 12:20 -- yes, I said flew as in aboard his helicopter -- to meet the man who will work hand in hand with football czar Bill Parcells.
Although the deal is not yet final, it is believed very little can get in the way of this becoming official. Only a glitch on contract negotiations, or a glitch with the Dallas Cowboys who currently employ Ireland, or perhaps Ireland insults Huizenga's family (kidding) could keep the hiring from happening.
Parcells had dinner with Ireland last night and showed up to the training facility with the guy at around 8 a.m.
