The physical and workout should be done by any team interested.

Don't really see how that will push things along... maybe so teams can see if he's willing to take a pay cut?

Would seem to indicate redo his contract before trading aka pay cut if you will. I think he and the teams involved know that he will not be playing with the same contract he has right now. If he was released they would work on another contract. One of the main reasons nobody wants to trade for him is his age, injury history and his LARGE contract right now.

Just for contract renegotiations mostly.
Depending on what he will take will determine what, if any compensation a team would be willing to give.

At least Jerry is trying to recoup some value for Tony. I am shocked he didn't release him earlier and "do right" by Tony. I am pleased that Jerry is trying to put the Cowboys first here, even if it doesn't work out and we end up releasing him.

It's very simple. The only two teams so far to show interest in Romo are the Broncos and Texans. The Broncos may "want" Romo, but don't "need" him, while the Texans need and want him. As such, there is only one real interested party, which is the Texans.

What Jerry is doing is announcing to the league they can talk to Romo about his contract, which alludes to the fact that a reworked contract might be a possibility before or after a potential trade takes place.

The reason for this is simple .. he's putting pressure on the Texans, who until now have been the only interested party so they could wait the Cowboys out. The goal is to create a potential for more interested teams to enter the mix which will 1) greatly reduce the chance of Romo being released and 2) push the Texans to pay more than they want draft-pick wise.

The Texans' fallback plan was probably to wait until after the draft and then offer a 2018 draft pick instead of a 2017 if they were forced to trade for him. Jerry is simply upping that time frame.

It has and continues to be a case of who will blink first.

This is why DEN and HOU have denied everything so far........it would have been tampering

the rules are very clear and Romo is under contract, not a FA or on a Franchise Tag

this is actually a pretty big change

Is this a sign that Tony might be open to a trade with other teams that he might not have previously considered?

It's always seemed more likely to occur after the draft to me. This is the time of year where draft picks are overvalued and veterans are undervalued. Teams are hoarding their picks right now. After the draft is over, teams will be more willing to part with picks in the 2018 draft.
