I've been saying for a month to let Romo talk to teams. To me, the main purpose is to try and flush out one more interested team. If a team takes Jerry's offer and opens up talks with Romo, it will force Houston's hand and they will have to start talking trade. This simple action may be enough to get Houston to move before any other team goes behind their back and grabs Romo.

At least Jerry is trying to recoup some value for Tony. I am shocked he didn't release him earlier and "do right" by Tony. I am pleased that Jerry is trying to put the Cowboys first here, even if it doesn't work out and we end up releasing him.

Maybe "doing right" by Tony really means make circumstances such that he retires. Maybe Jerry genuinely worries about Tony's long term health.

This is why DEN and HOU have denied everything so far........it would have been tampering

the rules are very clear and Romo is under contract, not a FA or on a Franchise Tag

this is actually a pretty big change
Yup... I've been trying to get the folks here to understand as a player under contract, the rules prevent other teams from talking to Romo. This is a big development. I hope Romo finds a good home.

Most people already knew that was the case RapSheet so to me that tweet falls into the "Duh" category delivered by Captain Obvious. BUT, I can't blame Jerry for trying to get something. I just don't see it happening.

If Romo is released you absolutely can blame Jerry Jones.

He couldn't have handled this any worse.

Name the last time a marquee player was told they could shop for a trade only to have them return, get paid a lot of money and simply take the back up role?

Putting this out there symbolizes one thing and it will probably break some hearts, he is done in Dallas.

Only a completely foolish organization would expect that they could just go on like nothing happened and keep him as a reserve.

Excellent point Alexander................teams don't do this to a player they plan on keeping, so this does signal that Romo is done here. Truth be told, I would imagine Jerry asked Romo if he had any interest in being Dak's backup and Romo said no.

So the team is basically telling Romo to go shop himself, make visits, schedule some workouts, take physicals, basically letting Romo take control of the situation himself.

I commend Jerry on letting Romo take control of this process, its the class thing to do for everything Romo has done for this franchise.

They just want to find out who to call on draft day when GMs are in a lets make deal mindset.

I dunno, this is beggining to turn into a mess. I just wish JJ would keep his trap close and allowing Romo to talk to other teams is the only statement on the matter. Romo could have been gone back early March.

Its still hard to grasp in a league where if you don't have a QB you have nothing that no one is willing to trade for Romo. The highest success rate for finding a consistent starter in the 3rd round is 40 percent at best, 17 percent at QB.... For a QB needy team one would think a 3rd round pick is worth a shot knowing the numbers of finding a QB as talented as Romo...

If the situation were reversed you would have to seriously consider making a trade especially if the other team competing for the same QB was in your conference... To me a swap of first round picks with a conditional draft pick in 2018 makes a lot of sense for all parties...

Just wondering....but why?

If Romo starts the conditioning program and injures himself, Dallas is on the hook for his entire $14 million salary. That is why you see teams "lock out" a player from their facility if they are trying to trade them. You also run the risk that the player could fake a soft tissue injury, not saying Romo would do this, but there have been players such as Ratliff who were rumored to have faked an injury.

@Toruk_Makto, just my opinion, but teams that Romo doesn't want to play for won't even get a conversation with him or his reps. Jerry essentially put the ball in Romo's court if you ask me. It's either Houston or Denver via trade/w restructure of current deal or he gets released.
Well that's probably a fair assessment. But this is still a necessary step to any trade. No team is going to give up something of material value until they've been allowed to talk to Romo and his team.

Romo will never see the inside of a Cowboys facility to start the off season workouts specifically because of injury. That is exactly what Washington did to RGIII when he getting ready to be shown the door.

If we keep Romo and Cam Newton doesn't recover or Big Ben gets injured in August and we get a 1st and a 3rd like PHI got for Bradford would these couple extra months of drama be worth it?...Absolutely

Especially since we only gain unspendable cap space if we release him

I can wait all summer
