Im all for Wade but he needs to do himself a favor and help his perception in the media and quit letting them walk on him like a rug.

Well if you asked that question last year and I said Rex Ryan, would you have believed me?

I was fine (sort of) with the option. Not happy with a 3 year deal, don't think this current coaching structure is good enough to win.

Ya i would of. That's last year and all hindsight.

Give me a name who you think would be better than Wade?

In September I would have jumped off a building with this news. Today, I feel completely different. He deserves to be the Head Coach because he's done a good job and now he gets a chance to finish it for the first time in his career.

Only one I see with the potential and who is available is Jason Garrett. I prefer Wade over Jason right now though

Not my job to find a better coach, its Jerry's. That was my point.

Certainly 1-5 playoff Wade doesn't represent the absolute pinnacle of coaching talent in this league. There are other Rex Ryans.

Plus I'd take Gruden, especially if we could have grabbed Nolan to DC before Bill did.

I think it's time for a drink.Exercise the extension and go from there, don't give him a three year deal right off the bat.

If you think that you don't pay attention to what goes on with contracts around the rest of the league.

exactly.

you dont sign coaches to 1 year deals or let them play out a deal unless you are admitting they wont be back. just picking up he option would have meant another year like this one where every week there was speculation about what coach might be here next.

wade did plenty to warrant being here and the club is headed in the right direction.

we'll be drafting in the mid 20's for a reason.

People know this doesnt necessarily mean 3 more years of Wade right?

It keeps him from being a lame duck.

Only example of "Jerry can spend his money how he wants"

Can't wait for the Vikings to lose this weekend, and than all those Pro-Bowl Vikings have to play for Wade Phillips the next weekend. Imagine the scenarios. LOL!

Good. I am happy Wade will be back. I'm also glad he got a three year extension. It hamstrings a coach if he's a year to year guy, so it's good that Jerry is showing his commitment to him. I like Wade, but if Jerry was just going to go by a year to year case I would prefer he release him. That takes away from a coach's authority IMO. Now we just need an OC and to draft some offensive linemen and we will be ready to make some noise (more than this year at least).

Wade seemed to coach a lot better in that environment. Might be coincidence the team got itself creamed the week after Jerry all but confirmed Wade would be back, might not be.

I would have kept him on eggshells.

And this is NOT the normal GM/HC/DC/OC setup, so it really doesn't matter what other teams do.

Right on the money, it's Jerry's money and it doesn't count against the cap so go for it.

It's easy to be on Rex Ryan's jock right this second but the guy was all but out of the playoffs until Indy gave them a game.

There showing since has been remarkable given the offense he runs out but 3 missed kicks by an All Pro kicker at home and having games that meant nothing to the other teams the last couple of games say it is better to be lucky than good.

Rex has always been popular here but if he isn't bringing Darrelle Revis with him than what's the point. We are already very good on defense.

The Jets finished first this year in points allowed but we were second.

We are also talking about a guy related to that fat tub of poo, Buddy Ryan.

I used his name as an example of a coordinator with no track record who had a good season, and has his team playing above their talent level.

I really don't want to get into the spin game over this coach or that one, its been rehashed all season. Suffice to say I am not a fan of Wade's coaching style, I don't like his in game HC decisions, and I find it troubling that we didn't have any success, even defensively, until Jerry took away his ability to delegate work to Brian Stewart.

By every report he is not a every little detail kind of coach, and when I look at the guys who have had major success in the NFL, I see a lot more control freaks than the opposite.

I think there are better coaches out there who are head coach material, not a DC who doesn't have any idea or input into what his offense is doing, and leave it at that.

the team has to appeal to assistant coaches and has to convince its players to buy into a coaching staff's plan.

the longer deal the coach has the easier that is.
most coaches get fired with multiple years left for just that reason.
owners don't just give money away for fun but it is the cost of doing business as an nfl owner.

it's not like wade's 3 years are gonna bankrupt jerry.

with 3 assistants needing new deals they now likely get 2 or 3 year deals. and paul p almost certainly got a multi-year deal which is why so many noted that meant wade was definitely back.

and eggshells are stupid. every coach in the nfl is one bad year away from being fired. just ask shanahan or holmgren.

if we go 5-11 next year wade will be fired without a second thought.

I heard Dat has been rumored to be the LB coach for USC. If so good for Dat. That Trojan staff could use a guy with some heart.
