The Tiger, Fowler and Oosthuizen group combined for +28 today!

This course is a bit over the top.

The course is different and challenging, but 25 players broke par. At a US Open, that's probably above average for playability. Certainly, at a British Open, the weather can create circumstances where no one breaks par. The weather at CB is supposed to be stable and mild; the only obstacle will be the drying out and firming of the course, which the USGA will not permit to be excessive.

Having said that, Tiger's group was epically bad. I hate to say that he dragged the other 2 down with him, but their cumulative score was historic for players of that caliber.

Phil didn't have complete confidence yet, but he's still in it.
Dustin and Stenson have the game to win here, but so do several others that are within 6-8 shots.

Lots of golf still to be played.........except for those noted few have already laid an egg.

I just cant relate to a course where every green is on the side of a mountain with 3 and 4 different levels and the pin is on a side of a slope. It is nuts the way the ball is running around out there.

I do like that the course is really long, and challenging off the tee. These guys hit the ball so far, the extra length is needed.

Looks like Tiger will be able to rest his glutes this weekend.

Sadly, he was never going to make this cut.
His shots are like cow dung - randomly scattered all over the place.

Anyone whose game isn't precise this week would be expected to fall. That includes other notables such as Goosen, Clarke, Mahan, Fowler, Hass, Glover, and Bubba. The DAL award goes to an unranked qualifier off the Web.com tour, who Tiger beat by ten strokes, at +26.
The course will continue to dry out, especially getting more difficult later in the day, as yesterday's round showed. The higher-scored morning players will have a chance to make up some ground, while the leaders will be playing when when the conditions are the most difficult.

Still anyone's game, but the cream has started to rise.

The Golf Channel could cover the Super Bowl much better than Fox can cover golf.

I'm happy for Spieth, and this will make the leadup to the British Open really fun.

But man, I'm a little sick at my stomach for DJ. That 18th green was brutal to watch.

It was brutal... and he's a good guy... but it is what it is...

That course was atrocious...

Yeah, Buck had several inaccuracies, the graphics and shot info and scoring data was inadequate, Weiskopf was at times incoherant, and Norman was embarrassing when he tried to explain the pathophysiology of disequilibrium.

The event didn't disappoint, though.
Lots of drama, extremely difficult venue, great and poor shots, and a few great rounds

Scott figured the place out, and shot 64 today.
Schwartzel and McElroy shot 64. It's interesting how the golfers who play challenging venues around the world in difficult conditions are more likely to rise up the leaderboard in the hardest tournaments.

Jordon's career is of to a historic start, but Justin's is looking a bit scarred. He didn't putt well enough to win, and that was evident on several holes besides #18. I hope he'll be able to appreciate his immense talent, and not let this loss hold him back.

Yeah, for all his wheels off private life over the years, it does seem like he's been pulling it together, and I'd have been happy to see him win. He's definitely got his work cut out to come back from this.

That course was crazy. I'm a little mixed on the course as an Open venue. I like mayhem at the Open, the brutality and unforgiving nature of the layouts is what makes it special, like the unique challenges of Augusta National are part of what makes the Masters special. But even though this was a different kind of unforgiving than most Open courses, I thought it was an interesting and entertaining test, as a change of pace. And the top of the leaderboard ended up being pretty impressive, especially when you look at the Sunday charges of Rory, Adam Scott and Oostuiizen, which I've always taken as a sign of a hard but fair test. I think I saw they're going back to Oakmont next year, so it'll be back to the classic Open challenges.

I didn't think the course was as brutal as Fox's coverage. They were really off the rails so many times over the course of the tournament.

I am not much of a golf fan. About the only time I watch it is if we are up at the inlaws, which is quite often now due to some circumstances, but I have to say.

I don't know if they will have another major TV tournament at that golf venue as frankly it was visually ugly.

I know I know I know, it had this and that and was a challenge and different and all of that but with the fairways and greens look like dried out dirty brown grass it is just not visually pleasing and the roughs looked like a side of the kills you would see goats or cows grazing on in a classic western movie.

I told the father in law that I kept expecting Clint Eastwood to trot by in his horse looking like he is making another of his classic spaghetti westerns of old.

Have to say the links style courses are not my favorite, it looked more like the British Open than a US Open. In the end though was glad to see Jordan Spieth win it. Amazing kid. Back to back Majors and still a chance at the grand slam. Only Bobby Jones has won the Grand Slam

The Bobby Jones grand slam, while a great accomplishment(British Open, British Amateur, US Open, US Amateur) is not the same as the modern day grand slam(Masters, US Open, British Open, PGA Championship). No one has won the modern day grand slam.

That is true it is different but even Jones accomplishment was unheard of. If by chance Jordan pulls this off it will be one of the greatest feats in sports.

Guess I will be one of the very few that loved the US Open. The course challenged every player every shot. It made them think their way the course. The last 9 holes was awesome golf between the best players in the world. As for the telecast it is what it is. The USGA and PGA Tour should have had Fox broadcast a couple of tournaments prior to the US Open to work out the kinks.
