Top Considerations:
Carl Lawson, DE (4th Round): If the Cowboys can come away with Lawson that could be another starter they add. He doesn’t have the measurable the Cowboys are keen on but this guy flat out is a quarterback hunter. If not for the significant injuries, Lawson could have been a first round selection.

Desmond King, CB/S (4th Round): If the Cowboys want to keep adding playmakers in the secondary that can start but also have position flexibility, it’s King hands down. He’s got size and speed with the range to cover all comers.

Xavier Woods, SS (4th Round): This will give the Cowboys a chance to come away with four starters and Woods can lay the wood. He’s racked up some impressive stats at La Tech with five interceptions last season and 89 tackles. This is the best playmaking strong safety on the board.

Dede Westbrook, WR (4th Round): Sure, folks are concerned about his size and injury history but this is a flat-out baller right here. Put him opposite Dez Bryant and let him make some plays. He’s got the speed to burn folks but the hands to succeed at the NFL level. He was a remarkable talent at OU.

Totally disagree. We have not only upgraded from the players we lost but we got younger. Not to mention they are on rookie deals so they don't cost anything. Church got over $6 million a year. What a joke

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree with all of that and I'm pleased. Given a choice at the beginning of the offseason I'm going this route ten out of ten. I'm just greedy and it's still a somewhat bitter pill that we can't have our cake and eat it too

I went to UNC. DAL coaching staff seems to value blocking ability by receivers a lot. Not sure he is a fit, especially with Bease already here, same player.

I agree with you. But I'm sure he can do what Lucky does ... well he'll. I could to. Sign me up!

I don't think you can have too many of those kinds of guys ... eventually they break. New England always seems to have a couple of these undersized players who have a suddenness to their game at their disposal. They always get open and because of their size you get them on the cheap, so their production always outpaces their contract. As a bonus he's your day 1 punt returner and his infectious personality would be a perfect blend for that rejuvenated and youthful Cowboy locker room. Switzer is an instant upgrade to Lucky in every respect.

If Xavier Woods is there late 4th and Dallas can't move the pick for Sheldon Richardson, then I'd be happy if they pick Woods. He is in the Earl Thomas size range and has a penchant for finding the ball. Dallas would have two smaller safeties if he could win a starting role but he could be a good player.

I like Desmond King and Carl Lawson as well.

Are there any burners left (that can catch) of the type Nick Eatman likes and can make Butler expendable?

If we don't get Woods, I think Kazee can transition to safety.

Round 5 value picks:

Ben Gedeon, LB (5th Round): Gedeon was someone the Cowboys’ met with at the Senior Bowl, they like his range and ability to play multiple positions. Gedeon can even rush the passer and would be a good fit at SAM or insurance in the middle.

Tedric Thompson, S (5th Round): Go ahead, Cowboys. Get yourselves Chidobe Awuzie’s old Buffalo buddy. Thompson has the range and can really carry the measuring stick as a hitter. He was part of an outstanding secondary in Colorado. He also has 13 interceptions over the last three seasons to his name.

KD Cannon, WR (5th Round): What’s one way to make the Cowboys roster? Beat out Lucky Whitehead for the return duties. Here’s another cat with blazing speed and can destroy a defense over the top.

Donnel Pumphrey, RB (5th Round): The Cowboys are looking for another running back to add to the mix. Pumphrey is a blend of good speed, vision, and ability to find the hole and go. He’s also a very reliable pass-catcher out of the backfield...

Yeah, it does look like Bease is out for the season 3 or 4 times a year with some of the hits he takes so I can see that, just don't know if they want to or even can use roster space like that. I would rather replace Lucky with a project like Ishmael Zamora. Just my 2 cents. Loved Switzer all 4 years at UNC.

It's getting awful crowded back there.

Carroll, Scandrick, Brown, Awuzie, Lewis, Jones, Heath, Blanton, Frazier

Blanton and Frazier are far from locks to make the roster. If they drafted a safety in round 4 it would just likely push one of those two guys off. At this point though the CBs are pretty set and can't see us keeping a 6th corner unless they were also the 4th safety...

As much as I wouldn't have a problem with a pick like TE Jake Butt, I also would not be upset if the Cowboys went defense with every single remaining pick in the draft. A lot of options left.
