So are the media outlets already announcing this as "Cowboys acquire 'idiot-kicker'!"

Absolutely. According to the Dallas media, Jerry Jones will have overpaid and selected the wrong guy. We could have had.....<insert a name here>....who is better, younger, cheaper, more sober, has less of a mouth, etc. And another thing, it's ominous that Parcells didn't show up at the press conference.:)

when you agree to terms, it's pretty much a done deal

Not really because look at Lavar Arrington.. He agreed to terms with N.Y. Giants but he didn't sign...

Assuming Vander signs, I'll definitely be relieved more than anything.

Given the amount of close games we played in 2005, and assuming that occurs in 2006, we need a much more reliable kicker than Cortez/Cundiff.

Between Vander and Boiman at LB, hopefully our Special Teams will be much improved (esp. if we get a FS in the Draft and let Davis focus more on Special Teams).

So He Agreed To Terms.........but He Left Without Signing?????

HES DUE IN NEW ENGLAND SOON.......JUST BECAUSE HE AGREED TO TERMS DOESNT MEAN HE WILL SIGN......DAMNIT.....JUST SIGN THE DAMN PAPER VANDERDUMMY.....LOL......SERIOUSLY THOUGH I HOPE THIS THING GETS DONE CAUSE HE WILL BE A HUGE UPGRADE TO WHAT WE HAVE AND WE NEED A DAMN GOOD KICKER......GET ER DONE JERRY.....ILL SEE YOU GUYS IN JANUARY IN MIAMI
GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!
He cancelled his visit with NE.

If they are negotiating this lon they'll get it done. Both sides have an interest in getting a deal done.

Vanderjagt can't really wanna play in the freezing cold of Bawwwwston, and the Boys can't wait forever to get a kicker.

The 1st, 3rd and 4th rated FA kickers are off the table so this guy is the best left. Josh Brown would be real hard to steal so is really not available.

That Vanderjagt is going to sign with the Cowboys soon. Wow, that sleuth Roy did it again. He's only two days behind the rest of the world. I guess you guys are right. He comes to this board, reads what is going on, passes it off as his own stuff and then charges people money for it. I never realized it until I started coming here. The best part is he gets mad when Woody's Girl posts his articles on this board, even though he stole them first. The only source that guy has at Valley Ranch is the janitor so unless he's telling us how clean the toilets are over there, he's useless.

I'm quoting myself to put in JFE's comments on Vanderjagt:

One more thing: Proving that stupidity is making a comeback at Valley Ranch; the Cowboys are probably going to sign Indy castoff Mike Vanderjagt.

What confuses me is why the Cowboys were interested in the guy Indy dumped to sign Vinatieri when they could have signed Vinatieri instead.

It is sad to know in advance what the media is going to say. They are so busy grinding their own axes, objective commentary on whether a signing is good or not for the team goes out the window. I will now add JFE to the list of media people to whom I pay no attention. JFE....:yousuck:

I love the use of the word "castoff" here. It goes back to that circular logic of every free agent being some team's "castoff."

Except for Dallas' castoffs. Keyshawn and Larry Allen are irreplaceable, it seems. That is, if you listen to most of what is being said. Meanwhile, the guys Dallas brought in are mere "castoffs".

There is a very real double standard, and it is on my last nerve. And it's not just in Cowboys coverage. I read the same things when it comes to the Mavs.
