I just checked out the link, and it says he's only agreed to terms but hasn't signed yet. It was reported that TO agreed to terms like 2 days before he signed. Vanderjagt is already at VR so it may speed things up, but they probably won't announce it until tomorrow.

This is correct. I PM some members of this board Wednesday afternoon and told them the Cowboys and Vanderjagt had reached an agreement. From what I was told, they reached an agreement in principal but he hasn't officially signed yet. Like I told the others, this will probably be anounced Thursday or Friday at the latest but it's a done deal.

My point is not about me... it is merely since when did kicking off require a special guy to come in and do it for the kicker?

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread, so if it's in there I apologize. What are his stats indoors compared to outdoors?

Dale posted the stats in another thread, here's a link:

I heard the guys on Around the Horn today stating how Vanderjagt is merely a product of playing in a dome, and that Vinatieri will play the next four years there without missing a single kick. I think some of them flatly stated Vanderjagt isn't a good outdoors kicker.

His statistics certainly prove something otherwise.

His indoor kicking numbers basically mirror his numbers when kicking outdoors:

2003:
Indoors - 100 percent
Outdoors - 100 percent

2004:
Indoors - 80 percent (12 of 15)
Outdoors - 80 percent (8 of 10)

2005:
Indoors - 92.3 percent (12 of 13)
Outdoors - 91.7 percent (11 of 12)

I don't understand this whole "can't kickoff" load of crap. I have never kicked in my life (on a real team, anyway) and I can put it on the opponent's 20 and keep it in bounds. There is no reason why a guy who is an NFL kicker and his entire job involves him swinging his leg in one repetitive motion for 16 games should not be "able" to kickoff. I'm not buying it...put it on a tee and kick it...that simple. I say Vanderjagt kicks off...if not he's a pansie. I do believe he can and will be kicking off...he's kicker for crying out loud.

You ever been to an NFL game? The kickers in the NFL absolutly BOOM the football into the air, it's a pretty phenominal expierience the first time you see that ball reaching the upper decks.

That is bogus, either he or McBriar will have the kicking duties, Dallas won't carry another player just for kickoffs, roster space is too valuable and besides Vanderjaqt kickoffs are just like his field goals, he kicks the ball high thus more hang time which is favorable for the Dallas kickoff coverage team.

Ummm, yes...I've been to many. And Vanderjagt should be able to put it through the roof. I am ecstatic with the signing...and I expect to see Vanderjagt handling kickoffs.

I agree...that is bogus. I would be furious if we signed a second kicker to kickoff a la Cortez's role at the end of last year.

Kickers should kickoff, I be daamed if I would bring a "Kick off specialist" Does anyone else think this 'specialist" title is ridiculous? Men play football, kick the freakin kickoffs as well.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Nobody can clarify that because nothing is confirmed yet.

perhaps we can get jose cortez back as our kickoff specialist. after all, with vinatieri signed, the colts will have no use for him.

This is very good news. Vanderjagt beats Cortez/Suisham/Cundiff any day. Even though our problems may not be solved, we are at the very least addressing the problems. Draft a stud FS like Simpson or Allen and I would consider this a very successful offseason campaign.

For what it's worth, Fox Sports Southwest was reporting that Vanderjagt and his agent are staying in Dallas over the night to hammer out a deal. Not exactly breaking news, but worth posting...

That's better than "they are flying to Foxboro, Mass. for a visit with the Patriots".

I love it, our team thinks we are close to a SB. I for one think they are right.

Myself -- and I suspect most everyone else here -- would have given our left nut to have Vanderjagt on our team last year.

Now we're complaining because we we're "stuck" with him instead of the ONE guy who's better than him in the league?

Unreal.

Welcome to Big D Mike! I, for one, am absolutely thrilled to have a competitor like you here.

How is there a better kicker in the NFL, than a guy who has the HIGHEST CAREER FG percentage in NFL HISTORY? Tell me one other kicker that at one time has hit 42 straight FG's?

Forget about Vanderjagt's one miss in Pitttsburg, or Vinateri's "clutch" performance on the Patriots first Super Bowl run. Before we give Vinateri so much credit for his game winning kicks in the Super Bowls. People forget, that he missed 2 FG's within 40 yards against the Panthers in 2003 before he hit the game winner there.

Vanderjagt - 87.5% CAREER FG kicker.
Vinatieri - 81.9% career FG kicker

Vanderjagt - 89.4 % FG's inside 50 yards.
Vianteri - 83.8% of his FG's inside 50 yards

Vanderjagt - 67% of his FG's over 50 yards
Vinatieri - 47% of his FG's over 50 yards.

Now tell me again who is the best kicker in the NFL?
