Vaughan?

You can also just look at his face. The lights are on and he is confident. Big difference between how he looks versus other third string QBs in the recent past like Richard Bartel.

I'm really shocked this kid wasn't drafted. He was at the combine. Balty took a 6th rd flier on the kid from Ball St we saw last night. From what I've seen this isn't a Tanney, or a Matt Moore type player. I would much rather sacrifice that 6th WR, or that extra safety, etc. for him. Hell, for two years or so we had a freakin kickoff specialist on this team!

Do you think Vaughn can be our future QB to lead this team to a Superbowl? I don't think he can. I rather we draft a top QB to be the future. Kurt Warner is few and far in between

And you know this after watching 2 preseason 4th quarters??

I don't see Dallas carrying 3 QBs, and Vaughan isn't ready to be your #2. They're going to carry both Lawrence and Spencer on the 53. With the probability that both will be ready to play before they would if they were on PUP. That leaves 51 spots. Do the math

9 OL (3 G, 3 T, 2 C, + 1 "swing" OL)
4 RB (may include a FB---May not)
5 WR
3 TE
10 DL
6 LB
10 DB (5 CB, 5 S, or 6 & 4)
P
K
2 QB

That's 51 + Lawrence and Spencer = 53.

If it was my decision, Vaughan would not play another snap this preseason. There's enough good tape out there already that I don't see him clearing waIvers now.

With Romos back issues I would rather go with 3 QBs and 3 RBs. Go with Murray, Dunbar and let Randle and Williams duke it out for the final spot.

The way our line looks this year I think bringing a running back off someone elses practice squad mid season would be a lot easier than trying to get a new quarterback to learn the system while backing up Weeden if Romo goes down.

Did we watch the same guy? #10? The guy with zero pocket presence and no field vision?

And you know he is the QB of the future after 2 preseason games

No, but what I've seen he looks very mature. A keeper. He could turn out to be nothing, but the thought of grooming a youngster is a crazy idea around these parts. I remember another undrafted youngster that took a little time as well. ;)

You have 10 DL plus Lawrence and Spencer who are DL. That's 12, and there's no way we keep 12 DL. You must have meant 10 total DL which would then make room for a LS and 1 extra player.

No, Spencer and Lawrence will not be active for a while. Dallas will carry 10 until they're ready to activate. Otherwise, Dallas goes into game day with only 8 active DLmen the first few weeks.

there are not 10 DL here that currently warrant being on our Roster.

That's irrelevant. There are times it about quantity rather than quality. There are a couple of stiff who will be on the roster, who have no business being on the roster. One will be released as soon as Spencer is declared ready to play, the other will be cut as soon as Lawrence is ready to return.

Ill be interested to see him in two weeks. I liked the composure he seemed to have, but i want to see more.

That's probably right on except you missed the LS.

EDIT: I'd probably put Lawrence on the designated IR for return. Spencer can go to PUP but he will probably be on the roster as you said. Brent can go to the NFI list. I think there's another who can go on the NFI list as well....can't remember.

You're right, I forgot about LP. That's one less roster spot for a 3rd QB.

Not saying he couldn't develop and be a starter, maybe he ends up the greatest ever. My point is with Romo and Weeden I rather draft one in the top 3-4 rounds. We can't expect to always hit on undrafted FAs. Thats how we got in the problem with OL and DL.

That being said I cheer for every player on the team to excel. I also want what's best for the team. If it came down to keeping Bishop or Vaughn I'm keeping Bishop (or insert name)

For those who think we need a 1st or 2nd rounder QB to start in this league let me remind you that Romo was a UDFA. Some coach by the name of Parcells saw potential in him to keep him around for a few years or so. Until he got that break to start and all hell broke lose.

If our coach who was once a backup QB in this league can't find a way to sneak him on the roster then its time for him to stop coaching and find another job. Right now is the time to groom a QB for when Romo is gone. You can't find a QB by letting him play 1 quarter with 3rd string scrubs. You have to play him more to get better at his game.

Trying to sneak him onto the practice squad is a foolish move. Other teams already know of his history and what he can do. All they need to do is a little bit of googling and look at this young man's record. Put some other scrub like Web onto the practice squad. Vaughn should be placed on the 53 man roster. Its good for the future of this organization.

Im sorry and what has Matt Moore done in this league? I think Weeden is all we need at QB besides Romo. 3 QBs is not a luxury we can afford

8 yr career ain't bad. What does he need to do to qualify for you?

While I know that it's hard to identify any rhyme or reason of this coaching staff, as far as personnel matters are concerned, I do not know what they can be seeing in Vaughan that could keep him off the 53. I know I shouldn't worry about decisions that are not in my hands but I am sitting here with my eyes wide open having nightmares of Matt Moore watching this kid play. Everyone in the Cowboy organization knew the kid could play and so did any GM that did his homework that preseason.

Think about it. If we had kept Moore there wouldn't have been Stephen McGee wasting a spot for three seasons. No 'is Orton gonna play'? No useless Orton money clogging up the books. And now I find myself not even paying attention when Hanie is under center (just a waste of time and money) taking snaps from this kid.

I do understand we will probably go a little heavy number wise on defense, especially on the D-line and at CB after the Scandrick suspension, but a spot should be made for this kid. Sorry if I'm rambling. I'm a little drunk and I had to get this rant out of myself just so I can sleep.

Moore was not good example; actually he disputes your argument. Yes, he did
End up starting a few games for Miami, but is he still in the NFL? We never end up rueing the day. However, I like what we've seen from Vaugen hope he at least makes the PS.
You kind of answer your own question. Scan suspension and Lawrence injury ruined any chance of carrying a 3 QB

I'm partial to him because of my West Texas connection to him. Here in DC, we got the ABC TV (and the Baltimore broadcast crew) version of the game rather than the blacked-out NFL Network national version, and the Baltimore announcers actually called Vaughn the "Johnny Manziel of WEST Texas A&M" lol

We certainly haven't seen near enough of him at the pro level to figure out if he's a keeper or not IMHO. I'd love to see the Cowboys give him a series or two with the 1's during one of these exhibition games.

You must have been watching the Commanders game

Does someone who knows quarterback play want to post some details then?

Because all I saw was a guy who like I said, had no pocket presence and was late to deliver the ball to open receivers. I'm not saying he can't improve, because his mechanics look good, but to prematurely rue a guy who looks like every other 4th string UDFA quarterback I think is borderline insane and certainly ridiculous.

He did, however, produce an excellent draft video lol.
