Vaughn Might Be Gone - All the way to the endzone

Yea, his size is a factor, but if it was such a negative/detriment to his production on the field, then one would conclude that his collegiate numbers as a running back would be very insignificant.
And yet, he was just one of five players since 1996 to tally 3,600 rushing yards and 1,250 receiving yards (versatile in both rushing and receiving) in only 37 games.
His total touchdowns (rushing and receiving) scored were 43.

Why he fell in the draft -- group-think mentality of scouting departments, scouts, & GM's can create a tunnel vision, & pigeonhole the ideal player at a position.
At the end of the day, the production, & the numbers he produced at KSU cannot be disregarded -- in fact, they reveal his potential success at the professional level.

I'm of the mindset of you drafted him, now play him. Don't treat him like an undersized back, other than obvious pass protection issues.

Let's see if he's the exception to the rule.
I like seeing some optimism from you man... Bossman Phat has let us down though huh?

It took the 4th year for pollard to get 10 touches or more per week. I have no faith in the FO that they will use Deuce properly.
yes and if they bring zeke back he will have less opportunity's.
Player utilization is something cowboys coaches have been bad at for a long time, I think in part due to they have to cater
to jones boys and how they want players used.

One key is how much they use him in PS, and will he play with the scrubs late in game or early in games?

The other thing is pass protection, if they think he cant do that well, that will limit how many snaps he gets.

Also it seems duece has a fan club before he even plays a down! He is a big pet cat for many.

So if he does something good in PS or in early games, he could be a big jersey seller. Jerry would like that lol. they gave him a odd # though.
#42 , should have been in 20's or 30's ,40's is usually for fullbacks.

He looks good in HL, but that is against college defenses, it will be much harder against nfl defenses, same for any player, it is a maybe
if they can do as good in nfl.
The only problem with his size, is pass protection, and I can see dak throwing the ball too high to him.

but I will root for him, maybe he can do good things.

I am pessimistic, partly due to turpin, who I thought would be way better than he was, and he wasnt used much except as returner,
and didnt do what I thought he could there.

I still remember the one kickoff, he could have went all the way, but for some bizarre reason , only 2 guys to beat, and he runs straight into them !!
Made me think he isnt very bright.

I appreciate all the optimism around the player but the unfortunate reality is the likelihood he is anything more than a backup or situational player is pretty slim.

Hoping he does well but If I had to bet on the guy I'd give him a year or two on the practice squad, maybe the occasional call up and then out of the league.

Just being realistic
Seems like a former all pro and current Hall of Fame player disagrees with you. Hmm, I wonder who I should listen to?

Get him to the second level and this guy may be a great weapon. What an exciting player.

This dude has got to be frustrating to tackle. Kinda like a semi trying to run over a squirrel.

There is so much wrong in this post I don't know where to start. Watch games. He has done well against any opponent. Blocking isn't his deal so he won't be asked to do that. He ran away from big school defenses also. Practice squad??? Seriously?
Delusional. Trying to argue that a 6th rounder winding up on the practice squad is unlikely.

He doesn't have great speed. Not even good speed by nfl standards. He's nowhere near the comps in this thread, he's smaller and slower than all of them.

They won't ask him to block? That's right, because he can't. He's a dwarf playing amongst giants. A RB who can't block won't be getting many snaps.

If he doesn't show something as a KR, he won't make the 53.

One advantage he’ll have being so short is he’ll be able to get lost behind the OL. He’ll be hard to see with those big guys in front and one cut and he could be free. Good luck getting fans to tap the brakes on him. We’ll see how it goes in the NFL for him.

But other than that he's a steal. Admit it.

As a Texas Tech fan, I saw Deuce Vaughn play several games against Tech. He was consistently good in multiple ways, including last year when he ran for 170 against Tech. Here are some things I’ve noticed about him:
  • He has unusual ability to make quick decisive cuts in the hole and can find daylight where little exists.
  • He is amazingly quick and when he breaks the LOS, he can make a LB or S look foolish with his change of direction speed and moves.
  • I was surprised how hard it is to get a good hit on him. When he is bottled up, he covers up and finishes runs well.
  • He has excellent receiving skills. Has good hands and can actually run routes like a receiver. On a screen pass, his size helps hide him among his blockers.
  • Because he’s so short, his pad level is automatically low, so he’s actually a decent short yardage runner.
  • That little dude is tough. Even after a big hit (which happens rarely) he’s always ready for the next play.
Although I don’t remember seeing him return kickoffs or punts, I think he would be excellent at both.

Deuce will probably never be a 20 carry per game back, but he has the ability to be used in multiple ways. He is an all purpose machine who could end up with 10 touches a game, while giving headaches to DCs who will wonder where he’s going to line up and when. This kid will be a weapon!

Not fast? He’s been clocked with a 4.44 40. He was also clocked at 21 mph on a TD run against TCU last year. He’s faster than many backs drafted higher.

https://elitefootballnetwork.net/athlete/deuce-vaughn/#:~:text=Deuce, given name Chris, is,and it shows on film.

I'm actually really excited about this player. I think he has a fantastic shot to make this roster. Can't wait to see him take the field.

I can't help but think about Pollard when I see this kid. Not that they are alike in many ways. But I see that quick cut in traffic and getting outside and to the second level similar.

.Beasley had a place on the team. And if the ability to catch the ball is as advertised, I can see this guy find and create plays. It will be a matter of time for them, to fully trust him. As attested to in this thread his size gives cause for concern. But a player is a player.

I would not be stunned if he doesn't turn out to be a surprise for many and a team favorite.

I guess Bijan Robinson doesn't have great speed or NFL standard speed either.

The issue I have is in the NFL it is hard to get 3-5 yards of clean blocking, he is on the smaller, lighter side, which means until he gets to the open field "arm tackles" and sloppiness that is the norm around the LOS in the NFL will be an issue. I am sure he can be Tevin Coleman, Tarik Cohen etc type of smaller back but he is complimentary back at best and a gadget back at worst.
