Vaughn Might Be Gone - All the way to the endzone

What does Pollard do that thrills this fan base? He gets outside and uses his speed and agility to attack the secondary.

Watching the videos of Vaughn, he seems to have a burst and can leave a defender in the secondary flat footed unless that defender gets the right angle. I see not much difference in this kid and Pollard as far as getting to the outside. Of course this is only supposition at this point. But Vaughn seems to have a wiggle in his run.

He won't be a tackle breaker like the bulldozers that run behind a good line. But open a hole and he will get through. Especially since he is smaller ang can hide behind the offensive line.

From what I've read over the last 6 six days, 'A.C.' -- there will be a full choir of once 'Duece doubters' that will be "performing" this upcoming season if Vaughn comew through in a big way.

Deuce has great contact balance that allows him to break tackles someone 180lbs shouldn't.

He's only short. He's not frail. He's powerfully built, just lacks height.

I want to love this pick.

Contact balance is what Emmitt was really good at.

Of course Emmitt was bigger, but what made him a good running back was his balance and sturdy foundation which made him harder to tackle.

Emmitt was also amazing at avoiding direct hits as much as possible which Deuce will definitely need to do if he wants to succeed and have a long NFL career.

Deuce's height is a concern and I do not expect him to ever be an every down back, but I am interested to see how McCarthy and the Cowboys integrate him into the offense.

I appreciate all the optimism around the player but the unfortunate reality is the likelihood he is anything more than a backup or situational player is pretty slim.

Hoping he does well but If I had to bet on the guy I'd give him a year or two on the practice squad, maybe the occasional call up and then out of the league.

Pollard is a 1A type of back, Deuce isn’t quite that. They both are capable of making big plays and I didn’t mean it to sound otherwise.

He never had durability issues at KSU.
Ultimately, the tape, & the on-the-field production at KSU cannot be ignored.
If the argument is then, "well, his production was against inferior opponents", the counter to that statement is that in this past year Vaughn complied these statistics against Power 5 teams:



Yea, his size is a factor, but if it was such a negative/detriment to his production on the field, then one would conclude that his collegiate numbers as a running back would be very insignificant.
And yet, he was just one of five players since 1996 to tally 3,600 rushing yards and 1,250 receiving yards (versatile in both rushing and receiving) in only 37 games.
His total touchdowns (rushing and receiving) scored were 43.

Why he fell in the draft -- group-think mentality of scouting departments, scouts, & GM's can create a tunnel vision, & pigeonhole the ideal player at a position.
At the end of the day, the production, & the numbers he produced at KSU cannot be disregarded -- in fact, they reveal his potential success at the professional level.

Well stated, @Reality ! You are absolutely right. Emmitt's best traits were his balance, sturdy foundation and ability to avoid direct hits. On college tape, Deuce shows the same abilities. Keeping fingers crossed he can do the same with the Cowboys in the NFL.

Another year of people getting excited over a skill player that will get, maybe, 10 touches a game during his best week.

It took the 4th year for pollard to get 10 touches or more per week. I have no faith in the FO that they will use Deuce properly.

I couldn't find anywhere last season where Deuce Vaughn ran only 12 times for 37 yards. Must have been a typo on behalf of whomever created that tweet.

i really think when it’s all said and done he’s going to be closer to 200 and have enough muscle to take the rigors of the nfl
