I thought "most" was a reach also.

However I do feel there is probably a team out there like the Skins that would either assume his contract or award him a new contract with a decent sized signing bonus.

fine around half, still doesn't take away from my argument

Actually, it does.

Unless your point was he is 32 and doesn't want to be a backup.

If that was your point, well done. Not many people can dissect a complex issue like this and produce results of that calibre.

Actually no, He is a very good DE, who according to his coaches should be fine by TC. And there are 13 +/- 3 teams that he would be able to start for. That is a lot of teams that he could sign with. He has a few good years left in the tank and doesnt want to waste the last years of his career, which is very reasonable. That was my point.

So you're saying being the starter in Dallas is the waste of a career?

Interesting. I can't agree with you there. Also, I'd rather be a backup on a winner with a shot at a Super Bowl, than a starter on a doormat with no shot, but then again I think 2.5 million dollars is a lot of money. What the hell do I know right?

How do you know he has a few good years left in the tank?

Know of any other 32 year olds who have come back from Achilles injuries and done even better than they did prior to it? Because that is exactly what he would have to do to justify any contract bigger than the one he is currently whining about.

Either he is just an amazing athlete or you are wishing on a star like Jiminy Cricket.

I wish I had a job that payed what Ellis is getting...and they called me one day and told me, "Hey, 5Stars, you know what, we got a hotshot grad that is going to replace you soon, so why don't you just stay home and kick back for awhile, rest up, and when we need you we will call. Oh, and by the way 5Stars, there is hope that this new guy can land us a contract that could go along way towards helping your future endeavors. If that does not suit you, then we might be able to get you a job doing the same thing, but that company loses more money than it's worth to you in the long run."

I would be like, "Call me when you need me"!

Medical science has advanced a lot. Injuries like the one Ellis had are now very easy to recover from. Look at Flo last year, while he started off slow towards the end of the year he finished strong.

That was a knee. This is an achilles tear. They are not synonymous.

Ironic that Ellis' attitude problems are probably due in some part to Jerry selecting him at no. 8 in the draft.
He has never put up a season that you would expect from a top 10 pick. (Although he was on his way to a very good season when he broke his fibula years ago.)

That wasn't an Achilles rupture.

At least get the injury right when you want to talk about the marvels of medical science.

Kevin Smith was half the player after his injury years ago. As I stated before, same with Peterson (who was younger and much more talented).

If he was healthy, you might have a point, albeit a flawed one.

Right now using this train of thought, you have absolutely nothing.

Basically you fans are thankless. While I am not going to defend him complaining, as I think it is counter-constructive and misguided. He has given at least a decade's worth of good solid play on the field and hard work off the field. He has been a leader on the team and is even mentoring his eventual replacement. Despite his propensity to worry a lot and express his concerns publicly, he has been a valuable and important member of this team for a long team.

And the inability of fans to forgive him (for he has deserved our forgiveness) and to immediately resort to bashing speaks volumes about some quarters of the Cowboys fan base. Greg is good player and a good person. Some of you should be ashamed.

I don't even think his attitude is "bad" to be honest.

It is just incredibly dull, boring and pointless.

I do agree that he is amazingly insecure for a grown man. Perhaps that is what you meant.

What i find funny is Greg's assertion that the Cowboys told him to be a stand up guy and sign the extension before he hit the FA market. Since when is being dumb enough to sign for less money than YOU think you're worth being a stand up guy? Mowing the old neighbor ladys lawn? Giving back a $20 someone drops? Being honest with the GF/Wife? All things i would consider a stand up guy to do. Taking money out of your kids and grand kids pocket to do the franchis a favor? DUMB and i don't believe a word of it. Ellis and his agent made a calculated decision and they feel they lost. Tough cookies. Be a man and live up to the contract by playing hard in the role the Cowboys give you.

Ok...I'm ashamed. Now, tell us, what do you think Ellis needs to resolve this mess?

What would you do? How would you handle it if you were Jerry? Detail please on what you would do.

Right about what?

I think that his complaining to the media is wrong and counterproductive, as I have previously stated.

So what are you right about, bashing one of the best players on the Dallas Cowboys for the last decade. Bashing a leader on our defense. Bashing a genuinely nice a good person.

Good for you.

I would trade him.

I wouldn't be happy about it, but this is a buisness. But I wouldn't bash him in the process. He deserves better than that.

So, basically Ellis is owed reparations, for a contract he signed, that was fair, and that he has consistently moaned about for three years now?

reparations.
