Vela: Part II: Should The Cowboys Take the Rusher or the Corner?

Can we get Deion to visit him at his house? Maybe have Dez drop in too?
I'd take Prince too. Just prefer Peterson. I even like Brandon Harris, but not around 8 to 10.

Hey Hos, hypothetical question?

How would you view trading back a few spots and picking up Harris for an additional 2nd. Then take an OL and DL or FS with those two picks in the second.

Just a thought, there is a long way to go until April.

The rusher. The best defensive backfield in the NFL would look like garbage with no pass rush.

I'd do it in a heartbeat.

gotta agree - trade down for Harris

I never heard that one before a "Rusher"
or Corner.:bang2:

I've heard of "DB" Defensive Back or "RB" Running Back.

So I would take a DB or RB :D

Indeed, if you are not good up front, you will not win.

Dallas is 27th in rush offense, and the Giants, Eagles, and Commanders are continuing to stack their teams with DEs. Washington will look to add Orakpo's partner this season.

Derek Sherrod is going to creep up into the bottom half of the top 10, imo.

When will the Cowboys address this offensive line?

I think judgment day is coming this draft.

I have to say, I like your 1st and 2nd round picks.

Passrusher. Look at how the Bears defense became elite again when they added Julius Peppers this season. Cowboys had the same opportunity to improve this offseason and decided to stay pat.

Cowboys should have rolled the dice and got stronger at OLB, DE, OL and FS. There were better players available, Jerry overestimated his team.

I take Patrick Peterson. No doubt about it.
WE dont agree on much, but we agree on this. if he's there, we need to take Peterson.

We need to get another consistent pass rusher on the outside. Spencer is NOT getting it done.

The funny thing is when he was in college he had a tremendous motor. He never slowed down, never stopped until he made a play. Maybe he just doesn't have the physical tools to play in the NFL, but it sure looks like he lost all the energy that he used to play with.

I think Spencer has an injury we do not know about.

He just looks off.

I don't think there is a pass rusher (OLB in our 3-4 system) at the top of the round (around the 10 spot if we draft there) that is worthy of taking over someone like Peterson or Prince at this point.

I would not reach for a player at OLB to be a Pass Rusher...besides ware it really has not served us very well recently.

You could look at someone to come in via FA, you could look at Butler if he gets increased playing time the rest of the season.

However I just don't think any potential 3-4 OLB pass rushers stand out to me at the top of the first round this year. And I darn sure don't want to waste a high end first round pick on a 3-4 DE.

So that narrows it down to O-Line or in the case of this thread...CB.

Unless its just that huge a reach, I am thinking I would like to see all 7 picks an O lineman. Unless the player taken is such a playmaker you cant pass on him, go heavy Oline, period. With a stellar Oline, our D would be playing 29 snaps a game and looking like the 85 Bears.

It all starts on the Oline.

I would agree with the pass rusher over the corner; however, how many rushers are needed. I think our defense needs some changes to take advantage of what we currently have on our roster. We need a big nose tackle that can take on multiple blockers so the linebackers can flow to the ball carrier. Ratliff is good however, he may better be used on the outside DT positions. It didn't take Green Bay long to master the 3/4 defense. They took off when they selected a NT. If you compare our front 7 with their front 7; we are missing a true NT. There middle linebackers experience the same problems as we do. Teams attack them with the pass. Our safeties suck! They can't cover sliced bread. Now toss in our offensive line. What a mess! The problem with this draft is there are no top offensive tackles and no really big NT's in the top 10. Detroit and Buffalo would surely take a top offensive tackle ahead of us. Buffalo needs 2 tackles. There are no safeties standing out this year as well that would merit a top 10 pick. Corner seems to be the logical position since Newman is getting older and they are so expensive to sign in free agency. Next opion would be to trade down.
We've not gotten much pass rush at all this year.

In 4 years, we've only gotten a consistent rush from Spencer for about a month at the end of last year. As a whole, he hasn't shown to be a proven pass rusher.

We have one great pass rusher in Ware, a feast or famine DT with Ratliff, and then a bunch of jags. We really need to improve the pass rush. I'd
much rather have a great defensive front and an average secondary, as opposed to the opposite.

Personally, I like the idea of drafting a big DE/DT type who could also play in the 43 also should Garrett or a new regime decide to change.

All 7 picks on the OL? I realize that must be an exaggeration, and im sure we'll have more than 7 picks by the time its all done, but this is a team with glaring needs at other positions. You can't wait too long to go safety or DL or another pass rusher.. depending on what we want to do in FA of course. Hopefully we do something next year.. if we have a next year.

We need to either switch to the 43 next year or get a true NT. We can't keep playing the 34 with a guy like Ratliff at NT though, its just not going to be successful.

I say always get a pass rusher. If both players are rated the same.
