Very Excited About Our Young Core

They don't send a team anywhere? A kicker sent Tom Brady to the hall of fame with 2 game winning, Super Bowl kicks...

I already gave plenty of examples, but you absolutely refuse to believe that a kicker is an important part of a football team. They can singlehandedly win or lose games for teams...

No, what you gave is a simpleton's approach to the game. You saw a kick end a game and you assume that player won the game. You completely disregard the entire game before it that led up to that point when real football was being played by real football players. Nobody's questioning whether a good kicker can help a team but they are not part of any core of the team and they certainly aren't as important as any other player on the roster. That is ridiculous.

because his knee, he won't last very long

Jonathan Vilma was diagnosed with the same knee condition (OCD) as Leary when he was in high school. He went on to play in college and then 9 years in the NFL making the Pro Bowl 3 times in the process.

What about week 3 of the 2011 season when Dan Bailey made 6/6 field goals which resulted in the only points scored for Dallas and got us the victory?

Clearly, I'm not suggesting that the "real" players contribute less than the kicker. I realize that there are 59 minutes before each game winning kick that had a lot to do with the "real" players. But the kicker plays a part in those 59 minutes, they add points to the board as much as any other player. Maybe on most teams, the kicker isn't part of the "core", but with this Dallas Cowboys team, Dan Bailey is as important as any other player.

Kickers are important; especially ours. Deal with it.

Agree on Church.

He's the equivalent of RW31 in coverage.

Don't go overboard here. Church has lousy cover skills for a safety but in no way did he take the wrong angles like Roy Williams. Looking back on 13' Church did ok and I think he grew up some. In 14' he may get more snaps in the box if he can add weight.

The guy im most excited to see next yr is Wilber. If he works on his range this offseason watch out. At the end of the yr he was the LBer playing the best football.

wow, better than Holloman... Wilbur as a linebacker in 14' ? or DE

I remember Roy being an awesome player...when exactly did he start to be so terrible? I remember it happening...I just can't remember when...

maybe it was the #change o_O

the number change was smack dab in the middle of his crappy years. He got soft after 2 or 3 years and went from Bonecrusher Saftey to "can't take the correct angle db and lost the pop he once brought with the PAIN!. I loved that player #31 his rookie season. Wanted him gone before he tried the silly number change. The 2 roys...wow I hated them.

Roy was great his first 2-3 years. I miss having a player like him. He was one of the few players that opponents really feared. He injured a ton of players, including TO and Emmitt. Receivers were scared to catch balls in the middle of the field...

Who knows what happened to him. He was awful afterwards.

He took his name literally (Biscuit), got paid and married a Destiny Child.....

By kicking a 33 yard FG?

Kickers are accessories. They don't send a team anywhere and they certainly don't belong on a list of young core players.

With the parity that is present in the NFL a kicker is one of the most Important players on the team. we have a stud young kicker that should be a mainstay for the next ten years. This has now become a crucial position.

Good thing about 4-3 is the LBs seem easier to scoop in later rounds/cheaper FAs. I really thought Carter was Coakley's speed accompanied with size. Didn't account for him not caring about football...
I think he cares about football and will rebound. We need to get a philosophy and stick with it - this new scheme, new coach, new position crap is not helping anyone. Pick something and stay with it. This franchise is a damn mess.

It started with a nasty stiff arm from Chris Brown in a preseason game if I remember correctly.

Trust man you're preaching to the choir on Carter. I was one of the few touting him even when his play dropped off so considerably about not judging him solely on this past season when everyone wanted to cut him after he and Heath let the Giant receiver walk into the endzone. The part about not caring about football was more concerning Zordon relaying to me some of his tweets on twitter. He just seems he is into just about everything about football. I understand he is young and has a personal life. We joked of his quirkly personality being eerily similar to Roy's when he started going "oddball." Again young, freak athlete, and absolutely no reason not to bring him back to TC next year and coach him up in OTAs etc.

It actually coincided with his heavy involvement with Religion (ducking). He even stated he wanted to focus more on his spiritual life (prepare for life after football) and understood that he couldn't tackle with such reckless abandon as he did in his head hunter years that we all loved. Oh and that Rowland chick, forgot all about her, really messed with his head right?

Good points. I think everyone here will agree that the less a guy has to think the faster he can play. We had so many guys - Carter as well - that we're playing multiple positions wih limited talent around them that it had to have an impact. In a year the guy has played in a 3-4, 4-3, SLB, MLB, WLB, made defensive calls, etc.... These guys need some consistency

Excellent. Kudos to the team for getting in FG range 6 times.

You're not going to win titles playing that way.

When you talk about the future of the Cowboys, Dan Bailey shouldn't be a factor. He's not a core player. He's not as important as any player on the team. He's a kicker.

A healthy Sean Lee is about the only thing on defense that could get me excited. Other than that, I don't see much to like on that side of the ball.
