Urray needs to be limited to 15 touches a game in a platoon or he won't hold up injury wise.

Don't go overboard here. Church has lousy cover skills for a safety but in no way did he take the wrong angles like Roy Williams. Looking back on 13' Church did ok and I think he grew up some. In 14' he may get more snaps in the box if he can add weight.

I think you could replace Seattle Safety Kam Chancellor with Church and not notice a difference. The problem is that Church is not surrounded by excellent talent at all of the other positions on the defense, including the other Safety Earl Thomas.

Feel the same about Lee in a platoon role? Does Lee need limited snaps? How about Ware? Romo? All have injury pasts and not many people say platoon them. Use them til you can't use them anymore while healthy, then draft their replacement. Just saying!

I love Dez. I really do. He doesn't make the catches he is suppose to. Ie. End one vs eagles.

TWill - was great early on. Then you didn't hear his name anymore.

Tyron - guy is all aces.
Fred - same.

DeMarco - can't depend on him.

We have very few pieces. The great ones we have don't realize their full potential.

unfortunately, the young core won't mean much if there no young QB to go with them.

Tyron
Frederick
Dez

Are those the only members of our "young core"? If only 3, I don't like the way this organization is headed.

These young men are worth being excited about:
OL
Tyron Smith: just beginning to realize his potential. Kid will be a fixture in the pro-bowl for years to come. I couldn't ask for a better situation at LT, especially considering Smiths age.

Fred: He's a throwback mauler with brains. The kids is chomping at the bit to impose his will and intelligence vs DL in the run game consistently. He has also shown to be special in pass protection as well. I'm over excited to see him next year now that he knows physically/conditioning what it takes to play 16 NFL games. I've always used to boxing analogy of going 12/15 rounds. Once a fighter knows he can go those championship rounds, mentally the next 12/15 rounder will be a walk in the park mentally. (Some of you youngsters don't remember 15 round title fights) I will refer to this for several players.

Ronald Leary: see boxing analogy. He knows now and is better for it. Never heard anyone call him lazy, so I expect improvement from him as well including ready made chemistry with the players to the left and right of him that aren't bad. Yea I know about the knee, but treat him like Emmitt, use him as much as possible and if you have to replace him after 5 years so be it. Another mauler that wants to grind like Fred and I love it.

WR
Dez: come on, I could go on and on all day about him but it's his passion that I love most. As you know I'm never really moved when I hear Witten, Ware and some others (spears) give the pre game speech because I don't think the player bought into their passion. I think they do with Dez. Honestly, Dez should lead the pre game speech every week. His love for this can't be questioned like it can for others.

TWill: buh-bye Austin!! Kid provides us with a deep threat and big target that should complement Dez for Years. I'm not sold on his hands quite yet, but the kid has gone 15, been knocked down and got his butt back up to fight again. This I love, because he was the goat vs SD but didn't pout and let it affect his game. He had early season drops and erased some of those, albeit with body catches at times but he got the job done!

DHarris: I'd like to see him targeted more honestly or have more trick plays for him offensively (he did play QB) and reminds me of Hines (Pitt) and Brown (NE) as Mr. Can Do Whatever. He just a football player that could spice things up offensively with a couple reverse passes a season. I mentioned once that I'd trust this guy at FS in a pinch. He's ST plays has makes McCray expendable, something else I love!

DL:

Selvie: Yes, Selvie! See boxing analogy. A guy that was never given a chance to play and when he was, he produced. 7 sacks I your first year of extended play, why not expect more next year now that he's gone 15 rounds? Even if you find better in the draft, Selvie is young and a hell of a rotational player at end. Keep him around by any means.

Crawford: not much of a sample size but he did show promise the end of his rookie year. I ruptured my Achilles as well and have no doubt he'll be back ful strength by training camp. Put him at DE IMO and let him grow there, whether it's in front of Selvie or as a potential Ware replacement. I like his athletic ability on the outside in this scheme, left or right side.

LB:
Lee: Another Dez passion wise. If it's not Dez giving the pre game, then by all means let it be Lee. It's time, injury and all for this to be his unit even if Ware returns. Really, step aside Ware and pass the torch to Lee as the face of this defense. Now I'd draft/sign a backup, but this should be his defense vocally with no interference, Ray Lewis style. STYLE, STYLE, Style not a comparison.

Holloman: this kid flashed from pre season on and at a couple of positions. I'm not ready to put Carter in the young core (I'm a huge carter can btw), but I'd love for Holloman to get some of his reps at WLB next training camp. If he wins, he wins! The kid showed toughness and playmaking ability, something I wish Carter displayed this year but didn't. Get in on the field somewhere next year and let his growth continue whether at WLB or SLB.

DB
OScan: I'd get rid of Carr ASAP and ride with Mo and Scan. Clear that contract, build the DL & draft/sign someone cheaper than Carr to go with them. Scan has always shown a competitive fire that I've liked. The production hasn't always been there but this year he took his competition to another level. He saw the depth chart and said so!! Took him a starting spot and never let it go. That competitive spirit is a must and why I've included him as part of this core.

Safety
Church: Never once questioned his toughness since he's been here and one of the main reasons he's listed as part of the young core. I wouldn't let him go for a while even if we drafted someone better. At worst, he's a ST demon and reliable backup. This is not to suggest that I want him replaced, just saying!

RB
Last but not least, DeMarco Murray: he's been here 3 seasons and in 2 of them he's displayed enough elusiveness, punishing finishes, breakaway ability, pass-catching, pass-blocking and a get in your face to opponents for me to say, he deserves the rock more (22-25 carries a game bare minimum and no less than 18 going into the 4th). If your not gonna be willing to part with Lee and his injury past, then live with the fact that when healthy Murray has been just as dynamic of a play maker for Dallas as Lee has been defensively. I wouldn't trade Lee for a second, injuries and all and I wouldn't for Murray either. He's only getting better and with the core of the line getting better and gelling, watch out! Include him in my pre game speechers too!

All of these guys in a different way would be in my core based on age, production, toughness, affordability & versatility. In the next 3-5 years, I'd do everything to build around these guys. Some might not call them core worthy, but they'd be staples on my roster for those next 3-5 seasons.

Plausible list..

the thing that jumps out to me about your list..

And its not of your doing or slanting in some way..

..but the thing is, your list has no future stars..

Now Dez, Murray Frederick, Lee and Tyson would be considered Stars..

Not household word Stars..but at least the top level young talent.

Other than that..those names are sort of devoid of anything memorable.

So I have to wait and see before my mouth gets wet thinking about it.

Jonathan Vilma was diagnosed with the same knee condition (OCD) as Leary when he was in high school. He went on to play in college and then 9 years in the NFL making the Pro Bowl 3 times in the process.

A LOT MORE players are gone in a couple of years. THAT is why Leary was NOT drafted. Jerruh decided to go wildcatting again and take another chance on a player with a injury.

Actually I like the Kid= and I think he can give us a few good years that allows us to find a guy we can plug in for 10.

Oh I hear ya, I just saw a couple of examples of TW using his hands on sideline outs, toe tapper catches. So the talent is there to do it. He needs to be coached up on this aspect most definitely but the fact that he was out there producing as a rookie says a lot about his talent/future. Probably the rawest receiver on the team and still was able to produce tends to give me confidence in him as one of the members of the new young core (Smith, Fred, Dez, TW, Lee, Claiborne).

I was going to say that too. The other thing about him is that he has great instincts. During the Packers last two games Cobb was getting open for big gains when the play broke down because of his feel for the game and I think Williams is the same way.

I would still be in favor of drafting a Guard in the 2nd or an OT/OG in the 1st. I like Leary a lot, but they are screwed if anything happens to him or Bern. They're 1 injury away from Phil Costa starting.
