Very excited about the Cooper signing

Leary is already one of the better LG's in the game. Let's be realistic here.
And provides that power on the interior, Zack and TFred are great but are more known more for their athleticism and versatility. Cooper is similar with his athleticism and versatility. Leary gives our line a bit of extra power.

Marc Colombo, part deux. I like the signing, he'll be a good backup lineman for us now and into next season.

Well, I loved the guy coming out of UNC. I thought he was the best OL prospect in the draft that year. Never understood why it didn't work for him, he had it all. He's been with three different teams. This could be his best last chance, don't know.

Good point.

I'm more worried about them keeping Free as the starting RT. He was never very good but is getting worse. Green is good when healthy, but they can't count on him being the starter due to his injury history. One option would be to pencil in Green at the starting RT with Free as the backup. The problem with that is that Free's salary is 5M. Leary is not likely to average much more than 5M.

Let's just say that Leary's salary for 2017 will be 5M. Then you have the choice of Leary at LG with Collins/Green at RT or Collins at LG with Green/Free at RT.

I'd feel comfortable going with Green at RT if we had a backup of Cooper's caliber. Unfortunately, Collins and Cooper might only be guards. And I don't think we should sit Collins on the bench next year. He's too good to be a backup. Either resign Leary and move Collins to RT, or put Collins at LG and roll with Green at RT. Cleary looked decent as a backup.

Cooper is definitely not an OT. He is a Guard that has practiced playing Center. He was a Guard in college.

Collins was a LT in the SEC which is the highest level of competition in college football. Most draft reports thought he could play RT in the NFL.

Then lets resign Leary (with the money we use to cut Free), move Collins to RT, and roll with Cooper and Cleary as the backups.

Well that is a great need for the Cowboys.

Cooper has been hurt so maybe he cannot train but his legs are skinny and are at the core of why he struggles to anchor against power. The Giants and Packers would scheme to iso one of their monsters on him and that would be a big problem.

Hopefully it is injury because those legs are nothing that some NFL style weight training cannot set right. I worry that his issue is between the ears in terms of dedication and work ethic though.

Looks pretty good
