Romo has only played 2 1/2 seasons . You expect more out of him than the best QB in the league who you admit took six years just to win his first playoff game? Patience is a virtue. Romo has led the Cowboys to the playoffs two out of three chances. If he was healthy last year, it would be three out of three. The playoff games Dallas lost WERE NOT ROMO'S FAULT. Why is that so hard for some people to grasp?

Romo played in 2 playoff games and missed the playoffs once. Peyton played in 3 playoff games and missed the playoffs once. From my calculations if Romo doesn't win in the next 2 years he is a supreme failure. Hell, i think he is a supreme failure if he doesn't win a playoff game this year because his teams are way more talented than Peytons Colts. Way more!

Jay, you're really going to bring up the Baltimore game? What about the Seattle game and the Giants game?

My opinion is this is transition year, another growth year. What can Romo do without T.O. I say he has until after the 2010 season. He would have had 4.5 seasons as starter as well as be 30 years old. If the December woes and playoff failures still occur, the Cowboys may begin to move on.

My gut feeling is something good to happen in 2010 though.

You mean that Seattle game that Romo brought them back down to the one where they had to change the NFL rulebook because of a slick ball.

or the Giant game?!....hmmm wasn't that the game that he hit Turdell Owens only to have him drop it and than hit a wideopen Patrick Crayton only to have him drop it and than to throw it again to Crayton only to have him just stop on his route or have the defense not be able to stop the opponent when it mattered...

but you have been told this time and time again...but you would rather see the splinter in Romo's eye than the whole of the redwood forest in yours

Peyton Manning was the #1 overall pick in 1998. You don't acquire the #1 overall pick by being a good team. Side by side comparison of Manning and Romo. Just for giggles.

........................Manning & Colts.............Romo & Cowboys
Year 1...............1998...3-13...................2003...10-6
Year 2...............1999...13-3...................2004...6-10
Year 3...............2000...10-6...................2005...9-7
Year 4...............2001...6-10...................2006...9-7
Year 5...............2002...10-6...................2007...13-3
Year 6...............2003...12-4...................2008...9-7

Colts...4 double digit win seasons
Cowboys...2 double digit win seasons

Colts...54-42, .563
Cowboys...56-40, .583

To achieve the notion that the Cowboys have had better teams only one thing is required. Keep Peyton's rookie season of 3-13 in the equation so that it slants the argument all the way to a 2 game advantage for the Cowboys.

:laugh2:

I'm sorry, but the idea the Cowboys have been better than the Colts is just laughable.

Would you say this is a make or break year for Tony meaning that he has to play a huge role in helping the Cowboys win their first playoff game since 1997?
No. If he controls the fumbling and receives better offensive line protection to do the same for the interceptions, Romo is more than capable of taking this offense to the Super Bowl.
CowboysFanSince88;2847251 said:
In all honesty, how long does this franchise hold on to a QB who plays a role in the cowboys either missing the playoffs or getting put out in the first game?
You mean in football years or Madden NFL Football video game years?

At this time, Romo's viable successor is McGee. It's not Kitna. Unless Jerry Jones switches gears on his past 20 year trend at the position and regrets his $60 million+ investment in Romo..?

Let's see...

2011... 2013... somewhere within that range... minimum.

I will admit I was very high on Romo in 2006 and 2007 but that Eagles game from the last game of the season has me unsure about him.
Cut and run. Happens all the time

I think we all should be worried a little when a QB compares one of his interceptions to being similar to a punt.
Scary.

The Boys sure as heck haven't been better, or even equal to the Colts since Manning has arrived, that's a fact.

Maybe Romo will get 9 years as a starter to win one like Manning? With Jerry, i doubt it very much.

Wow. A supreme failure. I hate to know what you think of Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Cade McNown, Alex Smith, and Kyle Boller. And I really don't care what "excuses" you make for Peyton. When Peyton was losing, it was his "fault". Go back and listen to the analysts back then. It was always, "Peyton can't win when it counts". He started in 99 games before he won his first playoff game. I'm more than willing to give Romo some more chances to win. People get upset because he didn't perform in December or the playoff games. Well, he has performed, but it wasn't enough for the team to win. That's right, THE TEAM!! Amazingly enough, he isn't the only one playing in the game. And if he didn't perform early in the season, we wouldn't even have a chance to make the playoffs at the end of the season. Cry and complain about the losses, but don't give respect for the wins. How quickly some forget the carousel we had at the starting QB position:

Quincy Carter
Anthony Wright
Ryan Leaf
Clint Stoener
Chad Hutchinson
Vinny Testaverde
Drew Henson
Drew Bledsoe

Some people get spoiled by wins, because I remember those 5-11 seasons and thought we'd never have a quality QB for a long time. We get lucky and sign Romo as an UDFA, and after 2 and 1/2 seasons, it's "make or break" time for Romo. :banghead:

In payton's defense he was always heading in the right direction. Even though he was winless in the playoffs he was not faling apart in December. And in all honesty I don't want to compare Romo to Peyton Manning or Brady or Mcnabb.

Give me someone else like Rivers or Brees

And how, exactly, was he "heading in the right direction"? Please explain that, exactly (after you compare his stats with Romo's)...

That would be me :D

Romo frustrates me to, but I am not ready to throw him away just yet ;)

Slowly push yourself away from the keyboard. Take a deep breath and relax. The season will be here soon :)

One of the biggest facade's perpetrated by the Romo detractors is the lack of a playoff win argument. Let Romo win a playoff game or two, but no Super Bowl victory and the focus will shift from December failures / no playoff win to big game choker.

The same fans who lift up Peyton would also be running Romo out of town if Romo were to experience the same career trajectory as Peyton did.

It is Super Bowl or bust. I get that, I am hungry for a Super Bowl win too, but failing to win a Super Bowl does not create an action item for me to wish our top talent out of town.

What is next, jettison D-Ware if Dallas defense fails to become a 2000 Ravens /1985 Bears caliber defense?

Indeed. There weren't many people defending Romo after that 44-6 debacle in Philly and the "who gives a damn?" attitude he displayed afterwards. How soon we forget...

The amount of money Jerry's paying Romo makes your question kinda moot. IMO, five full years as the starter is a fair "audition." But remember, Jerry is loyal to a fault.

Which is an utterly stupid comparison. Even dumber than the one you tried earlier.
