Was just about to post on the Vick decision... Reid had insisted all along that this was Kolb's team and would be no matter how Vick played. He even repeated it just yesterday.

Really makes him look spineless. He might even have given in to fan pressure. (Could any QB better suit them? Scum QB for a scum fanbase.)

I wondered if the Giants or Eagles could implode this year... Maybe it's the Eagles.

They will be back to Kolb in a week or two.

See ya Kolb.

They are speculating that Kolb must still be having some issues with the concussion.

Were saying that Andy does not come out so adamantly about Kolb being the starter only to change his mind and make Vick the starter unless Kolb is still having issues from the concussion.

Did NFLN give the reasoning behind the Vick decision? Is it just because Kolb still isn't ready or is Vick being given the reins until further notice?

They were just speculating at this point.

I think it's because Kolb had a setback on his concussion testing. He wasn't even allowed to attend team meetings until late in the week. He probably wouldn't have been cleared to participate in physical contact until later in the week, by which time most of the preperation week had passed.

The new NFL concussion rules are no joke.

They're not going to scrap the 3 years they've invested in Kolb based off one half in Week 1.

To be honest, I don't really think it has very much to do with Andy at this point. For all I know, Andy may be right in his reasoning, but if Vick has another great game or two (which I suspect he will) I think the team will be split all year. As I watch Kolb, I don't see him coming out and putting all doubt to rest. To me, that would mean that the problem will just grow. It will be like the Cowboys in the years after Troy. It's just hard to replace a great QB IMO. I do think that McNabb was a pretty good QB for them.

I think it's more of a progression thing. You know that a certain percentage of the players are going to back Vick and the better he plays, the more fuel to the fire, so to speak.

I am still surprised they sent Stewart Bradley back into the opening game against the Packers. That guy was in no condition to be back on the field that day.

As long as Vick plays the Lions and Jags (probably the two worst defenses in the NFL) and a Green Bay defense that spent no time gameplanning for him, I suspect he will look pretty good. When a good defense has a week to prepare for him and exploit his weaknesses and limitations, he'll be the same Vick we've always seen. One or two great plays amongst 60 minutes of inconsistency and horrendous accuracy.

Meanwhile, they're throwing Kolb away after ... what? 20 minutes of football? After he threw for consecutive 300+ yard games filling in last year? Great franchise leadership there (not that Im complaining).

Wow. Eagles send out press released naming Michael Vick the starting quarterback. Don't believe this has anything to do with concussions.

Adam_Schefter

From the way the Eagles are handling this Mike Vick announcement, it sounds as if he has won the job for good. Amazing.

WhitlockJason: Guarantee you Philly players changed Reid's mind.

Adam_Schefter

So the Oct. 3 game might not be Donovan McNabb vs. Kevin Kolb. Looks like Donovan McNabb vs. Mike Vick. Things change fast. Wow.

mortreport

I will tell you on SportsCenter now just how long Vick will be the starter....and it is very interesting

mortreport: Andy Reid will have a conference call @ 6:30 pm with media to explain his decision to go with Vick as his starter

SI_PeterKing

This is an amazing decision by Reid--and, in my opinion, the wrong one.

ProFootballTalk

Vick learned about he move not long before the rest of us http://tinyurl.com/26wjn2a #NFL

MrMichael_Smith

Eagles name Mike Vick the starter. Well, at least give them credit for not letting pride, politics take precedence over winning.

@wiseservant: The veterans on the Eagles went to coach Reid and asked him to start Vick. The lockerroom was behind Vick.

PriscoCBS

Mike vick starting? So the eagles trade mcnabb to play kolb and give him a half? Wow

espn_nfceast

RT @Jeff_McLane: #Eagles source: "We still strongly believe in Kevin" Kolb.

Filed to ESPN: Michael Vick is the permanent starter "until further notice." It is not related to Kevin Kolb's concussion, except that Vick obviously played at high level when Kolb was out. The state of the Eagles' offensive line with injuries probably is part of the equation. Andy Reid will explain shortly.

NFC East favorites in my opinion. Maybe NFC favorites with how well McCoy is running the football.

I'll reserve final judgment on the decision until I see how he does against better Defenses who have prepared for him but I gotta say, that Vick I saw against the Lions looked a whole lot better than the one I used to watch in Atlanta.

On a side note, I just hit the fantasy jackpot as I took a flier on him on waivers last week (played him over Cutler too - it was a wash) and now have one hell of a tradeable asset with which to bargain. Woohoo!!

Kolb isn't NFL starter material. He's had three years on the bench in the same system and still sucks. Vick won't tear it up all year like he did against Detroit, but he's better than Kolb.

And you've made this judgement based on one half of a football game?

Reid said Vick is the "hottest QB in the NFL right now".

I think he got into his son's stash.
