Nate Allen or Taylor Mays?

Hmmmmm.

Mays has all the tools to be great and he's a big hitter.

Allen is a center fielder who may be exactly what this defense needs.

Hmmmmm.

I just can't decide yet.

between Mays and Allen? are you kidding? I wouldn't take Mays if there were 20 rounds.

And that's why you're not an NFL GM.

:signmast:

The anti-Taylor Mays stuff is a bit over the top and being fueled by the "he's a Roy Williams clone" hysteria.

Actually I think I made it clear in the OP that I didn't choose one or the other yet.

Then you made the brilliant statement that if Taylor Mays was available in the 20th round you would still pass on him.

Then you basically made the statement above that could possibly shut the internet because of it's lack of intelligence.

Give us more Alfred Einstein.

Earl Thomas or Nate Allen please if we are looking for a FS.

I would not care to take Mays in the first however I will not go so far as saying not to draft him at all if he fell out of the first and we still need a safety. I just think he is more of an in the box safety or more in the mold of a LB.

Your endorsement doesn't make me feel any more validated. Just like your scorn on those topics doesn't mean squat to me.

Mays isnt even remotely close to being as good as Roy Williams was at Oklahoma. Williams consistently made plays at OU, and repeated it in the NFL for several years. Mays was basically invisible in games at USC. He's poor in space and I saw him take horrible angles on tackles numerous times. He's the classic "look like tarzan, play like jane" type IMO.

He's been incredibly overhyped for several seasons.

Doesn't Mays have 4 picks in his career?
He had 3 his freshman year. 62 tackles. No mention of pass defenses.

1 his sophomore year. 65 tackles. 6 pass defenses.

0 his junior year. 53 tackles. 8 pass defenses. Thorpe finalist, finished 3rd.

1 as a senior. 88 tackles, no mention of pass defenses. Added one INT in the Senior Bowl, though that doesn't count.

So that is 5.

At the Combines he will bench 225 at least 20 times. He's going to register a vertical leap over 36 inches and will run a sub 4.5 40 despite being 225 pounds.

The idea he is not a coveted player is kind of silly.

You missed me calling those comparisons "hysteria." Now why is that?

I'm not sure "hysteria" is accurate. People have concerns, as they should. He'll test really well, we know that. But his play on the field doesnt match his athletic ability and never has at USC. Jimmy Johnson said several times if the guy doesnt make any plays in college, he isnt likely to start making them in the pros.
