What makes you think that.

Austin has established himself as a very capable Kickoff Returner.

Im drawing a blank here guys and I am too lazy to look it up, but what was the receiver we had here about 2-3 years ago that had all the speed but couldn't catch worth anything?

I think we eventually released him.

Hopefully Austin is not like that.

The first drop would have been a big completion, not necessarily a touchdown because he'd have to make a move still after the catch. A bit of a stretch to say it would be a TD but it would have put you in FG range.

The second drop definitely was a blown TD.

Both Landry and Smoot was beat on that play and Austin is fast, if he catches that he's gone

JJ - is that you?

A converted QB that has minimal to no WR experience to replace a WR with no hands. This train of thought is exactly what landed us in 2001/2002!

If Glenn is done, lets get a Vet WR and also draft a stud late in One to 2nd.

That would have been a TD.

LaRon Landry was going the other way, overplaying the ball and all he would have had to do was beat Fred Smoot in a foot race and I like Austin's chances in that race.

Maybe it would have been a TD, but I would bet that the Commander kicker would have come off the sideline and tackle him!!

Miles Austin.....

We let these guys take up a roster spot or two every year, and never seem to release them until we have the next "future Bob Hayes" on the roster. I have become resigned to the reality that it is a curse on our franchise. They sure do look nice burning those street free agents in pre-season games though!

Austin was dropping passes in preseason to it really a shame cause a WR that can't catch is pretty useless
This is bad news for Cowboy fans, cause this guy has the pedigree to be a TO.

He gets opened with ease, unlike Crayton or Hurd. Everytime the ball went his way, he wasn't only opened, he was WIDE open, and can flat out fly after the catch.

If he could somehow get his hands right, he would easily be a number 1 receiver.

What?!

I think you have a misunderstanding of the word "Pedigree".

Austin will be fine. He dropped two yesterday... so did Santana Moss.

He needs more game reps. I mentioned in another thread that catching the ball in practice is not the same as catching it in a game. He needs to get more comfortable in games and the catches will come. He does get open often and on different types of routes, not just 1 or 2.

I also agree he could be a good #1 WR. He's got tremendous explosion after the catch. On that first drop he was probably already thinking of running w/o the ball. That's common in young WRs. The second one, that was just a bad drop. I wasn't disappointed in the first drop, but he's got to make that second catch.

considering Austin is the 5th WR what's wrong with Stanback replacing him? It's not like he said Stanback will replace Glenn.

The Pass Johnson underthrew, he had his man by 4 yards, that's called being toasted. I like Austin, but he really needs more playing time and the next time he gets his opportunities, he needs to catch the ball.

I'm pretty sure Jerry Rice could'nt catch the ball his first year, and almost quit he was so discouraged, and home sick.

Get it together Austin, you have #1 receiver qualities.

Exactly. Even the greatest ever had problems with drops his rookie year.

I really hope Austin does get it together though cuz he can be a REALLY good one if he does.

The first throw, although a little behind him because Austin slowed down a little bit, was catchable, but he didn't look at the ball. He tried to catch it without his eyes. That's something that can be coached. It's not like it slipped through his hands when he was looking at the ball.

The second throw for a TD was not a easy catch. Had it not been wet and he didn't slip a little when coming back, he probably would have caught it.

This guy has serious potential because he can run routes and get open.

Witten dropped a few yesterday too.

If we waste any first, second, or third round picks on a WR and I'll beat the crap out of Wade, Ireland, Jerry, and I'll even drive to Miami and beat the crap out of Parcells too.

Yeah, that's because he is a dog! Mike Vick would have electrocuted him after yesterday's performance.

Parcells would never suit him up on game day again.

The really said part is that the Stanback experiment seems to have failed. Even after Wade saying we would see him play, he couldn't get on the 45 man roster. The guy must really stink.

Looks like we will need two receivers next year. I would love to see us trade Roy Williamses.
