If you ask me, only 3 guys on defense have earned starting jobs from past play and considering the current state of the team - Collins at 3DT, Lee at WLB and Jones at FS. Everything else should be up for grabs and whoever plays the best should get it. Looks like Scandrick has consistently been playing above any other CB so far. Let the pieces fall where they may.

I agree. I expected Scandrick if he returned to pre-injury form to be our best corner, and I expected all of the rest to sort themselves out.

I've said I believe that Scandrick and Brown should be the starters, but I certainly don't mind Carroll starting if he's the better option at this point. Same with Awusie and Lewis, although I believe the younger players have the greater burden of proving they can be trusted.

Well he actually can be worse and has been worse at times in his career. Expecting some
change in him because he's in a new "system" is largely wishful thinking.

And I thought the goal here was to get better at CB?

He's also been better at times in his career. He was a better player than Carr in 2015 and a worse player than Carr in 2016.

Here's the skinny on him from 2015:

2015 Review: 62.11% of snaps (754 total), 41 tackles, 14 assisted, 10 passes defended, two interceptions.

In 2015, Nolan Carroll had his best season as a Philadelphia Eagle. Last year the veteran cornerback started 11 games opposite of Byron Maxwell, compared just a single start in all of 2014.

Carroll did well with his opportunity until he broke his fibula on Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions. His two interceptions last year are the second-most in a single season during his career. Carroll even returned one of them for a touchdown.

If you look more in-depth at Carroll’s numbers, he had a better year than highly-touted free agent Byron Maxwell. Carroll gave up fewer yards and was graded by PFF to be a much better coverage corner than Maxwell. PFF gave Carroll a ‘starter’ grade of 74.3, while they gave Maxwell a ‘replaceable’ grade of 49.5.

Carr was ranked 70th that year by PFF while Carroll was somewhere in the 30s. Last year, I believe they were essentially the reverse. So the question is whether Carroll is that starter-caliber player he was in 2015 or the player we saw last year. I believe there are good reasons for his poor play last year that should allow him to return to that 2015 form.

Carroll was signed as insurance. The way the draft fell, he's looking like some great depth because Brown and Awuzie will start the season with Nolan suspended and never look back. His suspension could actually be a good thing, forces Awuzie to start the season. As such, he'll be the 4th corner. That's actually pretty good.

BTB isn't the only one reporting that Carroll is doing as well as the other corners. He's matching up against Dez more than a lot of the other corners because he's a starter at this point. I agree with what others have said about him being a placeholder or stopgap, but we need that until someone proves that he is a better option to be one of the top three at corner.

If he was getting beaten like a drum, like some believe he is, then I would be concerned about Dallas giving him leeway, but instead he's been exactly what he was expected to be, a veteran who could replace Carr without much drop-off.

Now, ultimately, all of us want more than that and hope that Brown, Awusie, Lewis and even White can eventually provide that.

Well the ceiling is very low for Carr's replacement.

Carroll is Brandon Carr in more ways than one. Both are average DBs and both have internet chatter about them that takes on a life of its own. He will be OK as a starter, not great, not bad. The difference is he will have better players around him (and behind him on the depth chart) than Carr did last year or Carroll did in Philly.
I'll trade Carr for Carroll 7 days a week.... we watched Carr not make plays for 5 years..... at least Carroll can get the ball.....he is a great add while we wait on Cheeto and JLewis

Carroll has struggled with Dez, but who doesn't? He is a hard matchup for even the best corners.

Reports are that he has been competitive with Dez and holding his own against the rest. THe thing is, I think we have a pretty dynamic receiving corps. Bryant, Williams and Butler all have size and Williams has speed. Beasley is one of the shiftier guys in the league and once Switzer gets back it is more of the same.

Scandrick and Brown are both better slot corners than they are outside corners, while Carroll is better outside than in so it makes sense right now that they have Scandrick and Brown fighting for the second starting job.

The wildcard is Awuzie. Do they give him a legit shot at corner? Does he have a chance to take Heath's spot? Will he mainly be in the nickle? Right now I think our secondary has the most options and depth outside of RB and OL.

He's locked down OBJ well over the last two seasons. Something like three catches allowed with two ints. Then the Eagles kept him off of OBJ for the whole game last time they played and he blew up.

Well as of now it looks like he was signed to be a starter.

A lot of fans seem to already have their minds made up about Nolan Carroll. My viewpoint has been that the plays he has given up have been blown out of proportion compared to the other corners.

Here's what an observer at camp had to say on BTB:

Now, my hope is that Scandrick and Brown end up as the starting corners and Carroll comes in on the nickel (unless Awusie outplays him) because I think that's the better lineup, but if Carroll is the better choice as the starter, I'm all for what's best for the team. Of course, with Carroll possibly being suspended for a couple of games, the lineup will probably be Scandrick and Brown starting and Awusie coming in on the nickel (unless Lewis outplays him) and if they shine then there will be no reason to change.

If Carroll is that good, then Philly would have kept him. I think experience is extremely important here, but the rookies seemingly are bringing more life to the position, and therefore, they get my nod if everything else is equal.

Pretty much the entire DFW media.

Really...provide some links, because I have not seen or heard any of this....
And I do love in the area....so I see the local reports and listen to the radio.
And oh, the fan and the ticket hosts...they don't like any player...but even them, I have not heard much.

JJT, Sturm, others.

He's getting torched, but doesn't that perfectly describe his career to date? There's a reason Philly wanted him gone.

JJT....you lost me right there....Sturm, he is usually pretty decent, but so,etimes he can be off, or has an agenda about certain players.

The Cowboys have made minced meat out of this joker for years. You think he's going to get better now that he's old?
