I actually hate having to defend an OK player for being OK, but it irks me to see fans fueling misinformation. I guess with some there's really nothing that can be done about it. I don't start threads like this for them, though. I do it so others who may be corrupted by those skewed points of view will have the rest of the story.

True and his salary is low.

Nolan Carroll signed a 3 year, $10,000,000 contract, including a $3,000,000 signing bonus, $3,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $3,333,333. In 2017, Carroll will earn a base salary of $1,000,000 and a signing bonus of $3,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $2,000,000 and a dead cap value of $3,000,000.

Can't keep them all.

LOL. They dumped all their CBs. If they wanted, the Eagles easily could have signed him back if they wanted. They had no interest.

Think about that. Worst CB situation in the NFL and they didnt have much interest in bringing him back. Why? Because they had no interest in bringing back a mediocre CB who they have seen up close for a few years.

He was on a team with a bad secondary last year and non-JJT reports out of training camp are that he is playing well. Stop pretending that Will McClay recommends softball league players in free agency.

Myth. He had two pretty good safeties. The CBs in Philly sucked but they had decent to good safety play.

PHI brought in a new DC last year, and they changed their defense around. Carroll was a guy they brought in on a modest two year deal and then extended for a third year for some consistency at the position as they were turning over other DBs in 2016. They didn't offer him another 1 year deal this offseason.

He is what he is: a guy who gives you an experienced 3rd CB and who can start for you in a pinch. Hopefully, he doesn't end up a long term starter for us, but I"m glad to have him for a little insurance.

I don't think neither he nor Scandrick is being looked at as a long-term answer. Both are on the final leg of their careers, so the future is hopefully Awusie, Lewis and Brown.

I'm a little surprised that Dallas essentially has Brown and Scandrick competing for one starting spot and Carroll holding down the other (if that report is accurate) because I believe the future is now for Brown. But maybe the coaches want to get a real good look at Carroll as a starter before making a decision on who will start. They know what Scandrick and, to an extent, Brown can do.

I fully expect Brown and Scandrick to start, though, and Carroll to come in when Scandrick moves to nickel corner. That's based on what kind of defender I know Scandrick is when he is healthy and the fact that Brown was better than Carroll last year. I have hopes that Awusie, Lewis and even White can show they are already better than all three of those players because that would be a great thing for our team. But I suspect their inexperience will cause the coaches to slowly work them up to taking over starting roles as the season progresses, and it might not even happen until last year. And that's even if they make plays during the preseason because the coaches understand the value of experience.

Of course, if Carroll is suspended for the first couple of games, at least one of them is going to get his feet wet no matter what.

Unless I missed something watching Carrol for other teams, he is essentially a low rent maybe 1 yr starter. If he balls out then I will gladly eat crow.
You did miss something if you were watching when he was in Miami. He was pretty good. In Philly, he was a trainwreck. I think we can agree on that, but his time in Miami was solid to very good. If the scheme we run allows him to return to that form, we'll all be very happy. He can provide a bridge to our young guys.

It's Nolan Carroll. He makes Brandon Carr look like Deion Sanders.
I'm sure if you are trolling just to keep the thread interesting or you're that ignorant. If trolling, then well done.

I agree with you on Brown. I'd be surprised, and disappointed, if Carroll ends up the starter there. They may have brought him with a shot at the starting job and are just seeing that he gets it. He might not get it back, though, after his suspension.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to his reps as the season goes on. Chido is going to be tough to keep off the field, it seems. We play a lot of nickel and dime, though, so maybe it all sorts itself out between than an the inevitable injury/suspension time lost.

He was average in Miami.

Well if Carroll is starting, that means he has a better grasp on the defense and would be less of a liability than those behind him. Not sure if I should be happy or concerned about that.

This explanation for Carroll's poor season in '16 has been given over and over... But some continue to tug on that bone (the 2016 season) and refuse to acknowledge that Carroll was a much better corner in 2014 and 2015 in a more zone-based defense.

Fact is Carroll is a better corner playing zone than he is man... Sorta the opposite of Carr and that's why Carr wasn't retained. The Cowboys want to play a better zone defense.

It's no more complicated than that.
