My point is that they would likely promote somebody from the ps that has been learning the scheme, not a guy they cut in training camp.
Given how many TE's we had signed at the time, I'm not sure that getting cut in camp disqualifies Traylor from coming back, especially when both of our dedicated blocking TE's are out and all we have in camp is a basketball project.

Not disputing what you heard about regarding his level of blocking development in camp, but it all seems a little relative when you don't have a lot of other options -but I guess Mayle is it!

Note: Traylor was just signed to the Raven's practice squad. Interesting.

The Cowboys are pleased with the development of Gathers, who has made huge strides since the Cowboys made him a sixth-round pick. Gathers, a former basketball player at Baylor, had not played football since the eighth grade and thus was drafted as a project with still much to learn.

The Cowboys, while still considering all their options, have discussed promoting receiver Vince Mayle from the practice squad as an H-back. Mayle has spent this season, and most of last season, on the practice squad. His only game appearance came against the Patriots last season.

Rod Smith, who spent seven games on the active roster at fullback, also could be an option from the practice squad.

I thought the Cowboys would try to keep him on the practice squad. He did show good inline blocking. It's not the 1st time they didn't keep a guy like that. There was a guy in training camp a few years ago that was very similar. Good inline blocker but missed some assignments, especially when asked to be a move type blocker.
