An interesting piece of trivia is Ciskowski is the scout who signed Larry Allen's pre-draft scouting report. It's hung up in The Star is and is no where near as glowing as you'd suspect.
Larry Lacewell always used that as his claim to fame but it was Ciskowski's name on the team scouting report.

Doesn't surprise me. Lacewell was a joke and Ciskowski has always been a good scout. But, when he was coordinating the draft and made that mistake Jerry got him back to scouting. Thankfully, we still ended up with Travis Frederick who is a far better player, but it makes you wonder on what you may have missed on.

I am a diehard Cowboys fan. But I want McClay to have the title that is universally recognized by the NFL...for the job he is doing. And if Dallas will not do that...then he needs to leave. It's BIGGER than my fandom! The fact that Jerry has gotten away with doing this for years....makes me concerned that his son will try to do the same thing. I love the direction of this team TODAY. But lets not forget how rudderless and clueless this was for YEARS....and in spite of the good vibes we are feeling....we still have not gotten passed the divisional round of the playoffs in over 20 years. My hope is the Dak does not get caught up in all that comes with being the Cowboys QB...and focuses on finishing the deal.
That's a mighty grand display of small thinking there. You claim to be a "diehard" Cowboys fan and like the direction the Cowboys are going but if you don't get what you want, you are willing to blow the whole thing up by cutting bait with McClay. Who do you think you are? Your dislike for Jerry Jones is so strong it overrides logic. What difference does it make what title McClay has? If Jerry is paying the man an agreeable salary, why can't you leave well enough alone? But for you that's not good enough. You want McClay addressed with the appropriate pronoun or "he needs to leave". What's going on right now with that situation has nothing to do with the previous years of falling short of the NFC title game but somehow you conflate one with the other. GM Jerry should not exist in your small minded thinking. You are ridiculous dude.

Depends on the guy, I work with a few guys that would take the recognition and fancy title over the money all day every day. Their most precious thing in the world is the next line under their name on their business card.

Why jump ship when you can get paid good and work for the Cowboys? Life is good for this guy, keep up the good work.

Remains to be seen... He'll never have the GM tag while in Dallas. The money might be the same-- but he could definitely have more power and recognition in other places.
Who says he doesn't have that now minus the title?

I disagree...I personally think that there is a "gentleman's agreement" between Will and Stephen that Will is going to be the GM once Jerry checks out.
Why worry about a GM title if you can be named Team Vice President with scouting control.
Titles are generally pretty nebulous.

Jerry could hire anyone off this board to do GM duties with a title of 'personnel engineer' and if the salary was a GM's salary and we got to build a draft board we'd all take it.

I don't even know what my official HR title is, lol. But you bet I know when and what my direct deposit is.

He will not have the GM tag while Jerry runs the ship in Dallas.

Obviously we know he was well paid. We did not really need Wade Phillips to affirm that.

The fact Jerry Jones did something backwards with the head coach making less than a subordinate does not mean it relates.

Nothing outside of Cincinnati relates to what we have where the scouting head is basically a GM level figure without a title and no final say. Think CEO of Talent Acquisition without the final say.

McClay to Jones is much like Duke Tobin to Brown.

Mara runs the team in NY and his GM acts more or less like a chamberlain carrying out royal decree. It's a very royalist way of doing things but is the same way in function. He is also not the only one who obfuscates the power like that.

I actually prefer the Jerry Jones way which is more up front and honest.

I hope you're right... I love Will and hope he stays in Dallas for his entire career

As an African American....who see's ZERO African Americans in ownership....and who see's very little in GM/President roles....and only a small few in coaching...I do not want to see qualified candidates like McClay blunted by the egomaniac Jerry Jones. Like I said...it is bigger than my fandom!

Your issue clearly has more to do with Jerry not relinquishing the GM title and nothing to do with Will McClay getting some sort of recognition you think he deserves.

Not sure what to say here except what the heck are you talking about? lol.
Jerry gave McClay a job in football and has promoted him to ever increasing roles and salaries.
McClay is universally lauded for draft hits while Jerry gets blame for any mistakes.
Job titles actually mean fairly little UNLESS you are looking to leave.
Your salary and day to day duties matter. McClay is obviously not being treated in any fashion that makes him desire to leave and yet his name will remain the hottest one on the market.
There are few people on the planet with a better job than Will McClay.
Suggesting he must leave is about as goofy as it gets.

That "egomaniac" has empowered Will McClay with a great deal of responsibility and respects his opinion greatly. And furthermore, that "egomaniac" has saw fit to properly monetarily compensate Will McClay for his well respected opinion. As an African American, do you not appreciated the fact that Jerry Jones has placed that much confidence in Will McClay? I doubt very seriously he feels "blunted".

This is the bottom line...African Americans are underrepresented within GM circles...and to have a highly qualified GM candidate that happens to be African American not be properly recognized does nothing to enhance progress.

Nobody is entitled to anything. If progress depends on a pronoun assign to an African American man by an "egomaniac" white man then you and I have very different ideas on what true progress is. The Jones's count on McClay to do a very difficult job and responsibly pay him a proper salary.

Not too worried about it. I don't think McClay is either.

As long as he is well paid and his family is secure, I don't think he craves the GM title and honestly, the accountability one on another team would have.

There are not too many GM jobs around the league that are that attractive. There are a lot of unstable owners with bad organizations and job security is at a premium with the job function.

He has a pretty stable and insulated job right now. He blows a draft, he is not getting fired as that is not how the structure works. He is a director of the process, not a decision maker.

This and a head coach that isn't after your job to add the GM title to his head coaching title.

I think that is pretty much understood by everyone. Lets face it- the way Jerry drinks and carries on, the odds of him making it a lot longer is not good.

That would be true if Jerry were not a very rich man,,, look at Keith Richards.
