Well let's look at first round wideouts since 1997:

Rae Curruth
Yatil Green
Reidel Anthony
Ike Hilliard
Marcus Nash
Kevin Dyson
Randy Moss
Peter Warrick
Tory Holt
Plaxico Burress
Troy Edwards
Koren Robinson
RJ Seward
Bert Berriman
Charles Rogers
Andre Johnson
Braylon Edwards
Mike Williams
Matt Jones
David Terrell
Roy Williams
Calvin Johnson
Mark Clayton
Reggie Williams
Rodey White
Lee Evans
Larry Fitzgerald
Rashaun Woods
Troy Williamson
Michael Jenkins
Bryant Johnson

I've high lighted the one's worthy of the pick but still 7 out of 31 in 10 years is pretty pathetic.

Looking at that list and the list provided above about those drafted from 2003 - 2005 it seems that all of the consensus top 5 guys were successful though with maybe the exception of Charles Rogers.

So with that in mind if you can't draft a WR that is a top 5 pick, you probably should just wait!

What if the best CB left has a 3rd round grade?
Mike Jenkins, Terrel Thomas, Aqib Talib, Malcolm Jenkins and Antione Cason all have 1st rd grades and one of these guys should be around with our last pick.

Man, I would love to see us draft either Talib or Cason with one of our first round pick.

Talib is a playmaker but Cason is probably the more Pro-ready than any of the corners availible. Some guys in the 2nd rd to consider are Tracy Porter and the Dominiqie Cromartie.

McFadden is a wow RB, but he isnt the ONLY wow RB in the draft imo.

McFadden is past the point of wow.

Drafting solely for need is S-T-U-P-I-D..

Agreed.

So is solely " drafting best player available ", solely " trading up ", solely " trading down ", or solely " staying in the same spot " or saying that this position or that position will not be addressed in the first round.

The best draft strategy is this: go into the draft with an open mind, and be prepared for every single situation. Wether it's drafting for need, or trading down, trading up, selecting with the assigned pick, or selecting a position the team is already strong at, or trading for next year picks.

Anytime teams go into the draft with prejudices, they're only hurting themselves.

thatt said, if a Michael Irvin type player is available, I'm sure he'll take him. He was rumored to have wanted to trade up for Calvin this year so it could happen.

Jerrah also said that had Cleveland not call them, they were probably going to take Dwayne Bowe from LSU and it would have been a great choice. He's the closest thing to Terrel Owens I've seen, physically wise and playing style.

I've seen Cason play and he's an outstanding playmaker. Also has very good return skills. I'm sure Hos has seen him a lot too.

Ummm, No. Obviously a Good QB is better for ANY WR then a crappy QB, but a WR isn't "Totally dependant on the QB".

Keyshawn played with mostly crap QBs during his career, and he managed to do pretty well.

Yes he did pretty well but how much better would his have career been if he had played with better QBs.

Maybe I overstated it with the "Totaly dependant" quote, but you can look at the receiver we sent to Tampa in the Keyshawn deal, Joey Galloway had no chance here with Carter, Hutch, etc, and look how he is playing now that he has a better QB with him, and by the way, even a mediocre QB will do if you have the talent, but it's a lot to ask of anyone to live up to their draft status with a QB like Charlie Frye throwing you the ball.

By the way, I agree with you, drafting solely for need is stupid.

Cason is a very good player. He plays tight coverage and knocks a lot of passes down. He recovers fast if he bites on a move.

On Punt Returns he makes guys miss with very slight moves. He can move what looks like 6 inches and the tackler will blow right past him.

He tops my hope list.

I'm going to be sick of hearing about this for the next 4 months. :D

I'm already sick of it. What's even dumber about it is knowing Jerry, he's already changed his mind on that 3x at least and will many times more before the draft gets here.

If the player makes me jump up and say WOW while watching him play then that will be GREAT by me

I've only seen highlights of Cason and heard of him on this board...do you think he is the top CB? What about his speed...seems average, but then again that can be way overrated.

Like I've said before I would not be upset if we packaged some first day picks to get DMAC, but IMO we need another top CB in the worst way with the way the Pack and Pats play 4 and 5 wideouts.

I would have to agree with that philosophy honestly...

I don't believe there are many 1st round worthy WR draft picks this year, D. Jackson and whom else? I believe there will plenty of chances to draft a guy in the later rounds, plus I want to see more of Austin and Stanback honestly....

Amazing.

I'd bet every penny in my savings account that not a single team in the NFL has their draft board completed (most probably not even started) yet you know which CBs have a first round grade?

Truly. Freakin'. Amazing.

Saw Cason play in the Oregon game....... WOW

great true corner, although playing against a Leaf at QB, does that to a man.

I am looking for a Revis like Corner with Return skills

And a RB that may drop to bottom of 1.....Slaton/Rice

I'm cool with that. I want our TEAM get better, not just the RB position. McFadden is a great player, but there are other high quality RBs available that will allow us to get another quality player at another position. The key to all of this is our scouting department has to do their job right to make sure we get the best players.
