I don't know how to find the rankings for last years standings thru week 6, but I took a gander and some of the numbers he posted. I'm a novice at stat gathering, so forgive me if it doesn't look pretty.

By manual calculations thru six games for 2006

Shockingly, his point about Bill/Zimmer's defense being equally good is not that far off base.

I find it amazing that a lot of you guys were screaming for Bill/Zimmer to leave, but his stats are just as good as Wade/Stewart.

This looks pretty good to me, considering the 2007 stats are skewed by the huge numbers put up by the Patriots. Obviousy, if performances like last week become the norm rather than the exception, we'll all have reason to worry about the defense. For now, though, I choose to defer judgement.

We are 6 games into the 2007 season, and our pass defense is statistically worse than last year.

I personally like how he picks only pass defense to gauge this defense. Lets see, in 2006, we were either barely winning or losing games, so teams had a balanced attack on offense, which means they didn't throw as much as they are this year.

This year, except for the past 2 games, we have been blowing people out, so they have no choice but to pass, which inflates the passing stats. A lot of the yardage that shows up is in garbage time when we want the clock to run. This is an instance that stats do NOT tell the whole truth, but I guess numbers don't lie.

If we end up sucking on defense again this year when it's all said and done, it will be because our players just suck. It will have nothing to do with scheme. The first person that argues scheme is to blame for our lack of pressure obviously didn't pay a lick of attention to the Chargers defense last year.

We're getting more turnovers this year regardless of the sack numbers. A lot of that has to do with more pressure I'm sure.

Again, you can't blame scheme if we end up sucking this year because it's not like some random joe off the street is coaching our defense.
