Soccer is just so damn boring. I'll watch a game when the USA is playing but I can't actually sit down and watch it. The worst is when 30 minutes goes by and there's not even a shot on goal. I understand they are great athletes, some of the best in the world, but the game itself just isn't interesting to me. When I watch it on TV, it's moreso background noise/something to glance at every now and then.

It's not like football, where I can watch any game from any decade at any point.

You cant compare them because absolutely no sport comes close to our football.

MMA has moved into my top 3 favorite sports and as great and entertaining as it is it still doesn't compare.

GAH! Football! Hurry up!

August 13th we get to play Oakland! It needs to get here so I can read how much the cowboyszone insists we suck.

I need the over reactions of the Zone.

No girls? Was it the Blue Oyster?

Not really a pickup joint, but there was an exotic looking waitress who was sipping a glass of wine at the bar. I approached, introduced myself as Robert Sacamano, and watched the blood drain from her face.

disgusting that soccer is being played on that field before the Cowboys do.

I thought the reason for this would be obvious.

You don't go to a heavy-weight title fight and see that fight to start off.

You don't go to the Kentucky Derby and see one race run.

You let the little sissy midget men fight and the three legged horses run first.

Then you bring on the real deal.

FWIW, soccer is boring as watching the paint dry for most of us. Baseball gets ridiculed for scoring two or three runs in a game yet that's a veritable scoring fest in soccer.

It gets international attention because two kids with a ball of rags and two rocks to kick it between are playing soccer. It takes no thought or skill to play it on its basic level. Can you kick? You can play soccer.

A lot of us I would venture to guess have played when we were kids. Then as we got older, we turned to football either in Pop Warner or in school.

Football takes a very specific set of safety gear and not so nebulous rules as soccer.

Football to be played at the highest levels requires great genes supplemented with excellent nutrition and the ability to develop one's body. Genes are sprinkled around the world. Half nourished kids in Sumatra can play soccer, but couldn't even begin to consider the sport of football.

Point is again, as we grew up, we graduated to the chess-like gladiatory combat that is football from the "run and kick" world of soccer. We're just waiting for the rest of the world to graduate as well.

While I think soccer sucks as much as possible, being in a place where soccer is huge when they are playing a meaningful game is pretty cool.

I've seen crazy before and these people were beyond crazy. I think the amount of craziness that soccer brings out in people is only topped by PCP.

Wow, regardless of the sport being played in there, it is definitely cool to see the place packed for a sporting event. Really cool.

Edit - Highlight vid of the match. You can get a decent feel for the loudness of the stadium I think.

If you're ripping soccer, you'd better not be a baseball fan. How unfortunate for America to have baseball still referred to as the "national pasttime".

Soccer, at least, is a team game in which defense doesn't consist of standing around waiting for the ball to come to them.

In fact, for 90% of a 3 hour baseball game... outside of the pitcher, catcher, and batter... nobody does anything in baseball. The other 19 starters sit/stand and watch, like we do at home. How fun!

Soccer, on the other hand, is non-stop action. There's no standing around watching, unless if you're a goalie.

Mad about soccer players flopping? At least they're not needle-injecting cheaters like they are in baseball.

Sure am, and mad at their European counterparts bringing that exact same putrid garbage into the NBA as well.

Non-stop action culminating in a single goal in 90 minutes. Non-stop flopping to try and take advantage of a rule that helps prevent such glory as 0-0 tie games. Fun.

Defense may win championships but offensive scoring fills the seats.

I mean heck, no professional sporting league where usually a single goal or two is scored during a game would ever take drastic steps such as changing the rules or ability for the offense to score additional goals now would they?

Oh, my bad, didn't see you there in the back NHL. How's that Arizona team doing these days? No, I wouldn't worry about MMA taking your spot in the big four pro sports. What you say? NASCAR? Oh, well at least your a solid #5 in popularity right? Right?

Nope, baseball takes precedent over soccer because it's first and foremost home grown. It's about relaxing, eating hot dogs, drinking cold beer and again about relaxing. If there's a few runs scored, bonus. Can't recall any baseball hooligans beating each other to death at a park lately.

Yeah, it's only the Euros who flop in the NBA.

Oops.

Like I said, if you want to rip soccer, fine. By no means am I a big soccer fan.

But if you're a baseball fan, you have zero room to talk.

They aren't the only players who do it, but they are the players who tainted the NBA with it. Helen Keller can see where they picked the concept up from.

The premise of watching baseball as compared to the premise of watching soccer are fundamentally on opposite ends of the spectrum hence the moniker "America's Pastime". If something happens in baseball, bonus, otherwise we're just enjoying it for the casual relaxation of enjoying it.

It's a big reason why baseball is better in person than on TV. You're in the park, enjoying the intrinsic value of the surroundings, relaxing.

I meant "action" in the literal sense. The players are constantly running/jogging. The ball is constantly moving. It takes an incredible amount of endurance to play the sport.

The fat and lazy can play baseball... they wouldn't last 10 minutes playing soccer. No wonder Americans love baseball. ;)

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a buddy in high school, who happened to be a big baseball fan.

He pointed out that it's a blast to go to the ballpark with friends, watching the game, eating hot dogs, and getting drunk.

My counter: "Name one BORING activity that involves eating and drinking with a group of your friends."

Don't need a group of friends to enjoy a baseball game in person.

FWIW, I can tell you I watched more of the CWS that I watched of the MLB all year long. Never have liked watching baseball on TV. Not a fan at all.

Yes, a marathon is literally non-stop action.

And baseball is literally standing/sitting and watching for 80% of the players for 90% of the game. The strong majority of the sport is a 3 man game... between the pitcher, catcher, and batter. The others get to chew tobacco and sunflower seeds.

Baseball's so completely inferior to football, basketball, and soccer... I can't believe there's people who prefer it to any of those sports.

I don't know why you keep bringing up baseball to try and make soccer seem less boring than it really is. just think soccer fans have to entertain themselves during those boring games by singing songs and starting riots. I respect the soccer players in the sense they are always moving and use the same point when I say how rediculous it is that baseball players get paid more than other athletes. But with that said baseball is a harder sport than soccer.

No. It's not.

The degree of talent that a guy like Cristiano Ronaldo possesses blows anything any baseball player has to offer completely out of the water.

Because compared to baseball, soccer is a trip to the Playboy Mansion while wearing a flawless Hef disguise.

If you had 10 trys to try and score a goal on a pro goalie or to try and hit a 99 mph fastball, which one do you think will happen first?
