Also... don't fall for any dealership BS. For example, when I found the Jeep Grand Cherokee I wanted, I applied for the loan through their lender. They called me back and said they could finance me if I also purchased their Gold (or whatever) Warranty package for an additional large sum of money.

I said "What does my purchasing a warranty have to do with your banks ability to finance me?" They tried to give a runaround about how great the warranty is/was. I cut the guy off and said "Listen, I'm not getting a warranty. If you want to sell the truck, let me know. I'll bring over 5k today and we'll finance the rest. Talk to your sales manager and call me back within the hour." Before even getting off the phone, the guy said "Okay, come on down."

Warranties don't do me any good, as I quality, reputable, low mileage vehicles. Besides, I drive over 20k miles a year, so that 60k warranty would only last me 3 years at the most.

I need to research how to negotiate with the dealership. Car salesman are pretty underhanded.

My company just got me a 2010 F-150 2 wheel drive back in mid November. I have always been a Ford guy but I bet this truck would impress anybody. It is the 4.6 liter/292hp. The thing has ALOT of giddyup and go. Plus it is getting 18.2-18.6mpg and I do alot of stop and go for my job. If I didn't really like my 2001 F150 4X4, I would consider getting a new F150. The thing is a great ride and quiet even on the highway.

I don't know if this is premature since Monday will be my second day on the job but I'm gonna go look around tomorrow.

All the trucks at my work are Fords, they're complete junk. The early 90's Fords were good, but anything recent is trash.

Go Chevy or Dodge. Me, I'd say go Chevy.

Stick with Toyota.

Get the silver double cab with the 6 cylinder engine.

IMNSHO, the best looking truck on the market right now. I love the lines. I love the handling.

Silver, blue, white, or black. I like the silver because of the Cowboys.

If you buy new. Deal with the internet/Fleet manager at the dealership. This takes 99% of the sales BS out of the equation. If you buy used never buy a vehicle with over 20K miles and do a Carfax report on the vehicle and have it checked by YOUR mechanic.

Try and see if there's a Carmax dealership near you. You pay a little more but their vehicles are quality used cars. And it's haggle free pricing.
Oh, and if you want a truck go Ford.

Depends. F150s are still pretty damn good trucks, and even though I like Dodge, their half tons are garbage. 3/4 ton and up I'd go Dodge, GMC, or Chevy. Below that, Ford.

Midsize? Toyota.

Stay away from Nissan.

That is a good looking truck. I'll have to test drive one, but I think a 6 cylinder Toyota will get the same gas mileage as an 8 cylinder Chevrolet or Ford for some reason. They really drink gas.

I almost had an accident first time I saw one on the road, being completely in awe at it's sheer ugliness and that someone would buy it.

But Newused. Find a low mileage truck, 2-3 years old. Check the car fax.

I'd never buy a new car. Or lease a car. Those are two of the biggest wastes of money out there.

car fax is a scam, i know many mechanics who dont report to car fax

Best truck (and best looking) out there, imo.

My dad's been in the car business for 30 years, primarily in commercial fleet departments at various dealerships. He's worked for every car company out there in the truck business. He left the Ford dealership because he just didn't believe in the product. He just doesn't trust them and will never buy one. Despite their troubles, it's still Dodge, GMC/Chevy, Toyota, Ford. In his book, and mine.

Good luck in your search. When you know it, you know it.

This is correct. And if you can find a car that is about 5-7 years old with less than 60K on it, buy that cash and save your self the misery and torment of paying a monthly car payment.

It's the worst thing you can do with your money, buying a new car.

Based on my expenses and what I expect to bring home I'll clear about $500 every month. That's cutting it a little close, so the truck will definitely have to be used.

Health insurance is killing me at $224 a month. If they have a better health plan that would help out a ton. I'll need to talk to them about it.
