Outside of coaching/schems I also notice Ware is not very ingenuous in his pass rush moves (although this probably goes back to coaching). I know he's a rookie, so he probably is hesitant to come up with techniques on his own, but I'd think Glover/Ellis should at least be able to give him some tips.

Ware needs a bit more weight - 10/15 pounds, and Parcells needs to unleash him to the QB.

He can let the ILB and the 3 down linemen do their jobs and pursue the Run, PERIOD!

I loved Merriman at the UUUUUU of Md -

Many on this board claimed he was a workout warrior and insisted Dqwell was the better player on that defense- DQwell will also be a first round pick this year but players like merriman are rarer due to their size and strength factors

I m still holding out hope for a Ware performance like the one we saw in the preseason in which he was everywhere but it definitely looks like Merriman will be a player for years to come while we ll be waiting to next year ( hopefully with a new d coach) to see if our chosen one will produce-

Note to Ware- A few pass rushing moves wouldnt hurt- how bout a spin move or a swim move or perhaps even jumping over the lineman, difficult yes but not impossible

To a certain extent it is the scheme, but even when Ware's assignment is to rush upfield, has anyone seen him overpower many opposing tackles?

Samuels stood him up constantly. So did Willie Roaf. So did Luke Petitgout.

The last and one of the few times he rushed well was the sack on McNabb over Tra Thomas. Other than that, he has looked particularly clueless and he does not appear to have a wide variety of moves to use on his opponent.

LIke Bill said.....schemes are overrated....

Show me production.....so far Merriman has shown more then Ware.....plus I just love his attitude.

Ware has shown some......but I yet to see that aggressiveness

Give it 3 years.......then we can judge.......drafted that high....you need to be a difference maker.

ALWAYS NICE TO HEAR YOUR COACH SAY THAT SCHEMES ARE OVER RATED- lol

GUESS THATS WHY WE DONT USE ANY

SCHEMES DIDNT WORK VERY WELL FOR THE BEARS, Commanders or PATRIOTS DID THEY?

I don't understand what this fascination is with Merriman. He pretty much went untouched to the QB on Sunday, and everyone is annointing him a god.

I think Charles Haley had it right when he said that Ware was thinking too much on the field. He wasn't trusting his talent yet. I think he has been overloaded. Merriman is rushing the QB, but what else has he been asked to do other than kill the ball carrier? Has he been 15 yards down the field covering a WR on third down? I don't watch a lot of the Chargers, so maybe he has, but I know Ware has. I've seen Ware split wide trying to cover a WR in the slot. I think we have made Ware's transition from a college pass rushing DE to a well rounded linebacker a lot more difficult than it had to be. They have had Ware doing everything, instead of trying to get one thing working at a time. Honestly, I don't want to see Ware out in the slot covering WRs. I want to see him try to kill the ball carrier on every down. Th rest of the linebacker game will come. We drafted this guy to wreck havoc on opposing offenses. We didn't draft him to be rerouting WRs and dropping back into coverage. Hopefully, over the next few years, Ware's knowledge of the position will catch up to his natural talent.

Merriman Untouched?
Were you guys not watching the Colts/Chargers Saturday.
He ran over the tackle twice to make sacks.
Quit spinning things in the favor of our guy -- Merriman has run over and around people to record his sacks.

He got some free shots at Manning because they overloaded one side with both OLBs and the line didn't know who to block. He may have ran someone over, but I don't remember it.

You touched a nerve there.

"They overloaded one side with both OLBs".

Perhaps I have not been paying enough attention, but have we done anything close to creative like this?

From what I have seen we are simple meat and potatoes. Without even any salt.

What needs to be disguised?

Simply show different looks. That alone creates confusion because nobody can figure out where the blitz is coming from.

Right now, we have one look. Standard 3-4. We might bring Ware. We might bring Fujita. Once in a while we might bring Williams, Shanle or Bradie James.

I was encouraged by the Newman blitz against Philadelphia and we have not seen anything close to that level of imagination since.

I read something not to long ago where BP said, he knows this is a very simple version of the 3-4. Said he did it so as to not to overload the young guys. He also stated that next year would have alot more variety to it...

I'd have to do a search for it, but it was in some article somewhere..

But really, that's why the D has been fairly vanilla, according to BP.

He also has stated several times that he believes in simple approaches overall. He has never rolled out fancy defenses. He will never come out with a "Blitzburgh" style of defense. Never has, never will.

And let us not forget. There is no Belichick around to be creative. We have Mike Zimmer, the king of milquetoast.

Stop what and why? Our dialogue has been about creativity on D ...... I'm sorry if that causes you to go into convulsions.
