Ware Release: has the Organization Changed? ***Ware Mega Merge-place all Ware threads here please***

He'll be one of those players that will sign a one day contract in a few years and retire a Cowboy because well "I'll always be a Cowboy."

His play has declined a ton & they cannot afford him at his price obviously.

You don't think it will take long to replace the all time sack leader for the organization?

The thing is, Ware is no longer that guy. You can't pay him like it's 2008 anymore. Last year he battled neck, quad, shoulder, and elbow injuries. He's starting to break down. Any team that signs him won't be getting an every down end. And part time players don't command $13 million annually.

This hurts, but in the long run, it's what's best for the team.

Ware hurt Ware's career. His inability to be creative on the pass rush made him predictable. He could have learned a lot from an undersized player like Charles Haley. Watching Ware these last couple of years made me want to bang my head against the wall.

Ah yes, we are now seeing the typical reaction when someone goes out the door. Suddenly, they become less talented, less injured and lazier than they were when they were around.

4-3 and 3-4 had nothing to do with it. What did Ware do differently other than putting his hand on the ground in the 4-3? He still went up against the OT. In my opinion, Ware didn't see anything different from the offensive lines when he was the OLB in the 3-4 or the DE in the 4-3.

Bottom line, Ware didn't play well. He has no one to blame other than himself and, if he wants, injuries.

4-3 ends take a beating compared to 3-4 OLB. So yeah, I agree he could have some left in the tank in a 3-4.

He can go be a situational type rusher like John Abraham and make a reputation Pro Bowl just like he did.

There is a drastic difference between what he was responsible for in a 3-4 versus a 4-3. From the number of snaps, to who he was lining up against, to the number of double teams he faced.

Just be happy Ware now gets a chance to play for a playoff team. If he resigned, he'd wouldn't see the playoffs. Better for Ware and better for us (cap wise).

Personally I think its age more than anything. Ware started the season off well but then a bunch of little things started popping up. Thats what happens when you get older. Your body gets beat up more easily and it takes a lot longer to recover.

He only missed three games but the other games he played in the second half of the season he had to grit though as he was clearly not healthy.

Pride won't allow him to come back. He would rather take less money somewhere else than come crawling back if he doesn't get a better offer. Even if he takes a lesser offer, he would probably qualify it with "I took less to get a ring."

It is better for both parties to go separate ways. Both needed a new beginning.

Less injured?? Okay then. I think we can all agree that Ware was a great pass rusher in his prime mostly due to his size. Oddly enough he wasn't seeing as many double teams last year and still couldn't get to the QB. I don't think he is just magically going to get better. I can see him being used as a situational player on passing downs.

Or he's THEIR source? Ijs..

Granted they may have used a diff source to validate their report. But it doesn't mean they broke the story.

True enough, but is it really breaking news when EVERYONE knew it was going to happen? To me, breaking news is when they get something no one else knows

I don't recall many teams even bothering with doubling Ware last year. Heck, GB let their rookie 4th rd pick go man-to-man with him and Ware never sniffed the QB. Ware saw more double teams and chips and stuff when the Cowboys were in the 3-4 and Ware was in his prime. I don't even think teams game planned for him this past year.

Breaking news is both being the first to report it, as well as reporting something that no one knew coming.

As stated above

The Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys and free agent DeMarcus Ware have both left the door open for a new deal.
According to reporter David Moore, Ware will give the Cowboys a chance to match before he signs an offer in free agency. "DeMarcus and I agreed on an understanding that would allow him to explore the options he will have for the 2014 season and beyond," owner Jerry Jones said. "We were also in very strong agreement that playing for the Dallas Cowboys would be one of the options we would both be exploring." Ware has reportedly already received calls from "six playoff teams." Mar 11 - 7:27 PM

So basically, Ware gets to find a team willing to pay him like it's still 2008. When he doesn't find one, he'll hop on a plane back to Dallas, give Jerry Jones a hug, and sign the re-structured deal that he rejected today? I think the odds of this happening are slim to none, with all due respect to the Morning News.

Even if he has success next season, it does not prove that cutting him was not the correct decision at the time of the cut. It is about the probabilites of him staying healthy and having production that matches his cost.

You can bet $10 on the spin of a roulette wheel. The fact that you won the bet does not mean that you should have bet your life savings on red.

Yes it does........betting $10 on a 50/50 is one thing. Calling a guy in poker for $10 when your already in the pot for $100 is completely different

Dumb move.

Not surprised. Will be even less surprised when our DT rotation looks like: resigned Hatcher, Hayden, Crawford, Bass, mid round pick with a DE rotation of Selvie, Wilber, higher draft pick, low end FA signee #1 and #2

Championship.

Funny, I usually have read around here that injuries were a reason why the defense was so bad, but now it suddenly does not apply anymore. Interesting.

When they moved to the 4-3 the writing was on the wall on Ware's eventual release. He was undersized to play that position in today's NFL. It showed in his lack of productivity and his many injuries. I'm sure he'll have a couple or 3 more solid years if he ends up on a 3-4 team. Good luck to you Ware.

I don't buy that for a second. He's not undersized to play DE.

But switching to a 4-3 was a huge mistake like I expected it to be. Inferior scheme, relic coach. Worse yet, I think the owner dictated it.

Ware said himself there wasnt much difference, outside of occasionally dropping back. If Ware played the interior of the line I would probably agree, but Wares decline was more attributed to his health than anything else. If he can stay healthy he may have a 15 sack season left in him.
