Was there seriously no one involved in that entire process that had the balls to speak up? There is no way the fans will accept that joke of a mascot.

The fans or anyone like them weren't in the room when the decision was made.
The people making such decisions these days, across corporate America, are simply a different species than the mass of America. If it looks like an absurd joke, it's because they consider Americans a joke.
