Was Dak Ever Considered Elite

And just to point out, the display of QB by Dak this last year is highlighted in his Draft Profile criticisms, meaning the same qualities that are on display year in and year out in Dallas when he falls into his annual slump, let alone when he face good teams.

As I’ve said before, there is always a constant re-writing of the narrative regarding Dak. After his putrid last half of the season last year, his biggest fans started flipping the script that they never declared him elite on this board. Without getting in particular posters on this site, among them folks who claimed he was better than Mahomes or Allen, the following article clearly establishes that people were actually challenging the general claim that Dak proved himself elite, meaning this was a common perception that needed to be addressed.

The numbers aren’t changing since this article has been written. Even without taking into consideration the win-loss record, Dak is horrible when it comes to TD/INT numbers against quality competition and the stakes are high. 2021 was actually a greater demonstration of this very fact that Dak is a garbage-time QB that is basically in the category of a Goff, though we haven’t seen Dak on a team anywhere near as bad as Detroit. Both of them were horrible on their later progressions and both of them were on good teams, beating up bad opponents.

You can’t claim it’s because of the ‘defense’ he loses.
He had a great rookie season. Second season was turmoil. Elite belongs to guys like Brady, Montana, Roger Staubach, no I don’t think Prescott is in that group. But he’s very close

Belichek and Brady are the only ones trolls can claim dominated historically against strong competition. Think about how many coaches and QB's have come through the NFL...and you can only isolate one QB and coach tandem that actually won for almost 2 decades.

Even good QB's struggle against good defenses. And I thought it was about winning and not garbage time numbers. Which is it? Are good QB's only good if they have TD/INT stats but lose? Dak gets blame here for others mistakes when we lose. Or are you saying that the TD/INT is the mark that proves if you do your job as a QB against stiff defenses?

I think this is one of those psychology trap arguments...youre essentially saying you would take Eli Manning over Aaron Rogers because Eli has more SB's...yet no one else seems to be of that thinking or willing to lose a real GM job by that philosophy. Ther is a lot that goes into evaluating a player.

Yes, in his rookie year, in 2016. Granted, he was closer to that level in 2021 than he had been since that first year. Currently he's a decent QB & therefore, he's listed in the top 10.
No, he was a bus driver. Bus drivers always get too much credit from casual fans.

Zeke and the O-line were elite that year.

Dak was pretty much below the middle of the pack in everything besides INTs and Passer Rating. Funnily enough, that is still the best version of Dak we've seen because that Dak knew his place and stayed in his lane.
Riiiiiight.

So Dak benefitted from the OL but Zeke didn't lol.

You guys crack me up.

I just think we had a dynamic offense, last season. And it just wasn’t him it was the team. He can win us a championship. I have no doubt about that. But it’s going to take the entire franchise

Let’s be real. Dak is nothing but a tease to those that believe in him. His ability to inflate his stats against garbage teams when he has a much better roster than his opponents has been propelling this myth for his whole career. This is why he looks HORRIBLE for stretches of play year in and year out.

https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/4-is-dak-ready-to-prove-he-s-an-elite-qb

Mickey Spagnola: That depends on what your definition of "elite" is. Because if you look at stats, Dak's already pretty darn elite. Since he entered the NFL in 2016, only three quarterbacks have more wins than Dak, who has gone 53-32 in the 85 games played. Those three would be named Tom Brady (71), Aaron Rodgers (59) and Russell Wilson (58). That's it. To me, that's pretty elite company. The only difference being Brady has won three Super bowls in the past six seasons. The other two? None in the past six seasons. Also, consider this. Dak's QB rating for the 2021 season of 104.2 ranked third in the NFL behind just Rodgers (111.9) and Joe Burrow (108.3). And when it comes to all-time career QB ratings among quarterbacks with at least 1,500 attempts, his 98.7 rating ties him for fifth with Drew Brees. That again is pretty elite company. Now is the time to win playoff games, Dak only 1-3, two of those losses the last-second walk-off by Green Bay his rookie season and this past year to San Francisco, having moved the team into scoring position down six when the final second ticked off the clock. Win a playoff game or two and these "elite" questions are sure to disappear.

Man there should be topic limits for certain posters. Won’t happen since it’s your right to talk about what you want but it gets annoying to constantly see the same posters re-hashing the same topics.

We get it man you don’t like Dak. No amount of threads will make any difference.

To most normal fans, Dak is a solid to good 8-14 range QB in this league give or take a few spots. Other than 4-5 guys you need a good team and good coaching to do anything of note. Unless you’re lucky enough to land a Mahomes or Allen, the whole franchise has to operate effectively in order to succeed.

Dak isn’t good enough to overcome this organizations limitations nor is he bad enough to be considered the issue. I don’t get why that’s so hard to understand. Either keep praying for a 1% guy to fall in your lap or pray that the FO corrects its philosophical issues. But expecting anyone who’s not Brady/Mahomes/Allen to put this franchise on their back is stupid.

QB play is not the main issue nor is it close to the top of the list.

In steps the voice of reason. Well said.

I don’t know who really isn’t a bus driver. The guy responsible for taking the team where it needs to go. When the wheel falls off the guy who can fix it and keep going. Nothing wrong with being a bus driver. In fact I prefer it.

I fell for the Dak screamers for a while, thinking that he was being overrated by most. Then, the poll was done, and I saw the high majority were in the middle, as you said, 8-14.

Dak is between 13 and 7 as far as QB's go, still a good QB.

There are only 4 elite QB's in the league in my opinion and Dak is below them.

Dak is in the same bracket as the guy who just won the last Superbowl.

I argued that Dak was on par with and possibly better than Josh Allen. I based that on Dak's 2019 and Allen's 2020. 2020 was when Josh's hype train really took off and from a numbers perspective, those two seasons were very comparable. And then when the 2021 season started Josh first couple of games weren't that impressive and Daks were, so I felt vindicated. Boy was I wrong lol.
What? The first 6 games of 2021 are considered by many to be the best stretch of games Dak has ever played and Allen was still better lol

Josh Allen's first 6 games 2021 - 1,723 yards, 15 TDs, 3 INTS, 214 rushing yards, 2 TDS

Dak's Prescotts first 6 games 2021 - 1,813 yards, 16 TDs, 4 INTS, 70 rushing yards, 0 TDS

I mean, you did admit that you were wrong about him and that is admirable, but Allen was great from the start of 2021. I'm not sure where you weren't impressed by him.

You thought Wentz was elite! You shouldn't be talking
I don’t think he really cares either way as long as he gathers those likes. I don’t take anything he says in any content other than. Rambling. There’s no depth

Here, the discussion is about the term ‘elite’. Of course it’s not the calf injury, as he couldn’t throw against cover 2 with the Chargers in WEEK 2.

And I actually prefer that type. The team player the bus driver. I mean where has it gotten Rodgers, or Mahomes. One ring. OK that’s better than us. But it’s not great either. As far as history. I’d actually still take Romo over either one of those two.
