I love Dorsett and Emmitt, but the greatest runners I ever watched were Gayle Sayers and O.J. Simpson.

I think the answer has to be no.

I was just watching a few clips of him on NFL Channel and honestly, he's just the smoothest, prettiest runner I've ever seen. He just glides.

Man, I feel pretty lucky to have been able to watch him play.

Tony D was just a great, great player.

If I am not mistaken TIKI BARBER is a model or was one.

He was fairly small too, around 185 or so. even back then that was small for a full time RB.

Dorsett was blessed with great vision (nickname: Hawkeye), incredible burst, and an ability to avoid the direct hit. He had more gears than an eighteen-wheeler. And, as a career preserver - always seemed to, at the millisecond prior to impact, position his body so that tacklers rarely landed more than the glancing blow.

An amazing talent and all-time great Cowboys player.

Everyone is gonna have a opinion on this, why bother ranking. I mean Jim Brown, Earl Campbell and even Bo Jack haven't even been mention. I love great runners never bothered ranking them just clump them in the greatest runners category. They all had something unique. Peterson is the first back in a while to raise my eyebrow, MacFadden is borderline he has some nice physical tools but his vision is still questionable to me.
TD was defenitely special, in fact his 99 yarder on that Monday night sealed me as a Cowboy fan, 4life.

Payton was smooth IMO, too. I didn't watch much of Dickerson. But Dorsett was like silk.

Emmitt didn't seem smooth at all to me. He did a lot of 4 yards and a cloud of dust and finally wore out the defense. Then you'd see 10 or 12 yard pops. At the end of the game, he'd have a cool 125. It had to absolutely demoralizing for a defense.

We were talking smoothest runner--that is why Brown and Campbell weren't mentioned.

A Couple of weeks ago I saw a 10 min video on You Tube that showed a Collection of Clips from the Cowboys RB, everyone was there from Duane Thomas, TD, Herschel, Emmitt, JJ and Barber. It was Awesome!. I can't remeber if Don Perkins was there or not.

I will add one thing Dorsetts arability to shift from first gear to 4th in an eyelash is seldom if ever seen today. Among all his other attributes that separated him from backs before him, Yes even Walter Payton or OJ

The question was about a particular style....not about who the greatest was.

Yes he did...but Gale Sayers had that same ability. I'd definitely put these 2 guys in the same mold.

Something else not mentioned so far...both guys could give the old soft shoe without missing a stride better than anyone else.

EDIT: Allow me to add...everyone was always so hot on how great a spin move Barry Sanders had. Tony had that going long before Sanders.
