Wasn't Gallup supposed to replace Dez?

I don't understand some posters if Romo were the QB Gallup would be more involved in the offense. The offense goes, as Dak goes. Dez did not do much in this offense. Stop whining and give him some time.

He’s a third round pick.

Realistic expectations for him would be to be a non factor as a rookie, 3rd wr production in his second year, and a solid #2 wr by his third year. He would be a solid pick if he follows that progression. Anything more would be gravy.

That’s one reason this team sucks. Every year heading into the draft, there are 2-3 major pressing needs. But it takes 2-3 years for those picks to materialize. I see people saying “if they just take a TE and S next year, we’ll be a complete team.” By the time that TE and S are good, there will be multiple new holes. That’s why you need to supplement in free agency and trade markets. Stephen Jones is too stupid to understand this. The FO keeps selling hope to the fans. We’ll just address our major needs in next year’s draft and then we’ll be contenders.

Wasn't Gallup supposed to replace Dez? Because I don't see anything from him. He's not fast, he runs lazy routes, I suppose he has good hands but I haven't seen anything up to this point. Can he block? He looks like a worse version of old dez.

Am I missing something? I know he's a rookie but damn.

Am I Missing Something:facepalm: Lets See,After a Couple Of Games:muttley: Why Do We Always Have To Come Up With This Narrative That When We Draft Someone Or Sign a FA Were Supposed To Think That Were Bringing In Someone To Fill In The Replacement Right Away..Have You Ever Thought Just Maybe We're Bringing Someone To Just Fill In The Gaps..You Guys Have a Unrealistic Fairy Tail That Someone Is Going To Come in On Day 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,or Whatever To Replace Dez Overnight..It just Not Going To Happen..

Give The Guy a Chance To Develop His Own Style Of Play..Can We All Agree On That? Gee Whiz..

Bryant was injured and had 500 yards his 1st season. He didn't crack 1,000 his second season.

Relax.

When Dez was drafted his rookie season he had two guys ahead of him who caught over 1k yards. Gallup doesn't have one obvious player who will catch for 1k yards ahead of him yet alone 2.

Had Miles Austin and Jason Witten not been on the team Dez's production would still dwarf that of Gallup. Dez would have 15 tds by the end of his 2nd season. Do we think Gallup will sniff that?

And none of this is fair to the kid.....but I do remember posts all preseason about how our passing game would be better now that we had "WRs who can get open." So much for that...

So far this passing game is below average, the receivers, the quarterback and the offensive coordinator all need to step up their game.

2 games brah more useless posts need to be revisited after 16..lets see Dak missed everyone game I great d, game two solid d only 8 series and not a lot of time to throw ..Oline main Cuplrit Dak the other but without Sustained drives and more drives, how the phack are we supposed to get anyone numbers? im so sick of the post about where are the TE and Wr when its really freaking obvious unless you didnt watch the game and see all the game film on this site..seriously not being a donkey but you guys are FN clueless..there are good factual evidence to the reasons our WER/TE have fallen off the last two seasons..it right in front of you..its not separation its not no speed its not bad route running..

If Dez was to be "replaced" by anyone this season it's Hurns, who was signed in free agency before the draft.

He seems far more useless than Gallup, who is paid less and is a rookie. What's Hurns excuse?
There were a lot of people here that thought the signing of hurns was a great idea to pair with Dez. Hurns was never a #1 receiver, when he was signed the thought was he would knock TWill down the roster and the 3 starting WR would be Dez, Hurns, and Beasley with Twill and someone else being the primary back ups. When Dez got cut the WR corp took a step back all the guys on the team are guys that excel when there is focal point for the passing game. Gallup is probably the most talented of the bunch but he screams #2 WR.

2 games in for a rookie third-round pick and people are screaming disappointment is just freaking sad. Whats is wrong with some of yall??

Despite what Mosher says on the last one, it was too far to the right sideline.

Our team building approach requires our rookies to be phenomenal day 1.

Only the Dez lovers who were mad that we cut him thought this to be true. Of course, look at Dez's production over the last few years and if Gallup progresses, me may be right there for far less money.

While that development progression is reasonable, your expectation for the talent level on NFL teams is not.

Every team does not have 22 average or better starters and the depth generally in the NFL is terrible. This is the FA era not the early 90s where teams could retain their homegrown talent easily.

Look at the teams we are or are going to be playing. Carolina had holes in starters with their receiving group and their secondary. Giants with the OL, TE, and secondary. Seattle this week has issues all over on defense and the OL with their personnel.

Given that reality, it's less about stacking the roster30 deep as opposed to having difference makers in the different phases of the game.

Dak in 2016 had nearly 800 yards and 8 TDs in 12 games on a run happy team.

Let's settle down. Gallup will be lucky to have a year like that in a full 16 games - he has Robert Woods level talent, so his peak is 600-700 yards and a few TDs.

Don't forgot those TDs were force fed to him plus many more throws. How many TD's would Robert Woods have had he been force fed like that since his yardage was pretty close.

If that's true, why do the Cowboys 2nd and 3rd units continually get dominated in preseason?

The Cowboys TE, S, and WR groups are all bottom 3-5 in the NFL. Are there any competitive teams that have 3 position groups that are bottom 5 in the league?

How many games did Dez start as a rookie? Was he dominant from day 1?
