Wasn't Gallup supposed to replace Dez?

Here’s what I remember from posts during preseason: the smart guys here were saying *by the end of the year* he might develop into the team’s best outside receiver. And I remember a lot of other posts about how it was going to be WR by committee.

Some fans hear what they want to hear.
We remember different preseasons.

Go back to posts after the 49ers game.

Who is the greatest WR in the history of this Franchise? Old Timers might say Bob Hays. Others, not so old but still plenty long in the tooth might say Pearson. Most would probably say Irvin. There are those who are younger who might argue Dez.

Drew Pearson only caught 388 yards in his rookie year. Now, he did catch over a thousand in his second year but he didn't see another thousand yard season until his 7th season. A different game, to be sure.

Did you know that Michael caught 654 yards in his rookie season? Did you know that in his second season, he caught 378? Did you know that in his third season Michael caught 413 yards? It wasn't till his 4th Season that he broke out.

Dez had 561 yards in his rookie season. In fact, it was not till his 3rd season that he eclipsed a thousand yards, having narrowly missed it in his second season.

Hayes, he was the exception, and that's interesting because he played in the toughest passing era of them all. He was able to post Thousand plus seasons in each of his first two years in the league. Of course, he had world class speed and the NFL had never seen that kind of deep speed before.

Mark me down as one who believes that Gallup will be the man in Dallas. I believed it before we ever drafted him. I was on board with him when he was still at CSU. I think he is going to be a great WR for us. If I'm wrong, I can live with it but I don't think I am.

I guess we'll see.

Did you know Irvin tore up his knee?

Exactly!!! Romo’s personal stats look good. But the only stat that matters looks horrible. Postseason is what matters and Romo is the wildcard game champion. Nothing more
He was also the MVP of the 2009 Wild Card game and the playoff monkey on his back was finally lifted. Most QBs get that monkey off their back in the SB, but it is what it is.

Yep. But according to Dak Haters we are setting the bar low. Hahahahaha :lmao2:

Missed a chunk of games in both 89 and 90 in his recovery. In 91 he had 93 receptions over 1500 yds and 8 tds.

He started 10 games in his rookie year. It didn't take him 3 full seasons to recover. What's your point here because mine is, even the best WR, according to many of our fans, didn't start the world on fire in his rookie year. I don't see what his injury in 89 has to do with that point. And BTW, if you check the game logs for Irvin in 1990, he didn't play the first two games of the season but came back and played after that. He started the 3rd game of the season in 90, against Tampa Bay. He didn't start all the rest but he did play. The only other game he didn't play in was the 11th game of the season against Philly and that had nothing to do with the knee injury.

Wasn't Gallup supposed to replace Dez? Because I don't see anything from him. He's not fast, he runs lazy routes, I suppose he has good hands but I haven't seen anything up to this point. Can he block? He looks like a worse version of old dez.

Am I missing something? I know he's a rookie but damn.
Yeah because Dez was tearing it up in his first two games. How bout give him a chance and not throw in the towel after the first 2 games.

If he wasnt half the receiver Irvin was he wouldnt be our franchise leader in TD receptions. Btw, what does any of this mumbo jumbo you're spewing have to do with my post?

It addresses the idiocy of comparing a player with two games experience, to a player that has been in the league for a number of years.

Wasn't Gallup supposed to replace Lance Alworth (or was it Bob Hayes)?

I can't believe that a thread condemning a rookie receiver has gone 10 pages. Give the kid a chance to play a few fames for crying out loud!

Like I said, lets hope Gallup can be half of what Dez was. I'd consider that a success.

He had all training camp, preseason and 2 full regular season games. This isn't a knee jerk reaction I just want to see what everybody was telling me about Gallup. As of now I haven't seen a single thing that stands out. Not one.

So I'm asking what exactly is he good at?

Dez you can see the talent from a mile away. I don't care about stats. You saw Dez in camp? He stood out right away.

Based on your rundown of Gallup's flaws, some here would claim that he is EXACTLY replacing Bryant.

WR is among the hardest positions for a rookie to make a major impact. Gallup was a 3rd rounder too for crying out loud. Just the fact that he is seeing meaningful snaps and has a catch is about where he should be right now in his development. Let's see how the kid is by the end of NEXT season and if he isn't showing anything better than he is now, I'll say you might be onto something here. Otherwise, it's a pretty dumb thread as we all know that Gallup was supposed to replace Golden Richards..

No. Where'd you get that idea from?
