I know we are all trying to figure out the problems..

but to me when watching the replay of the game..

We are committing way too many penalties.

And its the OL and TEs holding or false starting..

and the defense with alot of offsides, holding and pass interference.

It was ridiculous against the Falcons and not very good in the first two games against the Jints and Iggles.

How do the coaches address that?

If this keeps up..

We won't even be competitive going forward.

Thoughts?

Penalties have been a problem......but I can't say that was why we lost on Sunday.

But it was the penalties that change the momentum of the game.

The false start by Witt and then holding by Free on our first possession in the second half was huge. We were at the midfield and we needed to score. After the penalties we were faced with 3rd and 20 plus yards and then punted.

That was a turning point in the game.

I understand but penalties are going to happen. Good calls or bad calls. They are going to happen. I don't think that's an excuse to collapse.

havent penalties been on the increase throughout the league? thought i heard that elsewhere. that i read the refs were being told from above to call more than they would normally call.

Not saying its a reason for collapse..

just saying that it wasn't so damaging as it seems to be now.

The Atlanta game was constantly being yellow flagged.

And several times we should have been called and as Aikman said..

"we got away with it not being called"

So maybe I'm incorrect but seems a lot of sloppy play that just adds to the issues.

Not an excuse but an indicator of possible collapse to come. Players commit penalties when they start getting beat or lack concentration due to fatigue.

Good teams over come it but right now we are not a good team due to various reasons.

Yeah we have to tighten that up because we're not ah wenough to overcome them. I told my family once Witten commited that false start that this drive was over and we had to put it away a couple plays later. It been the same story with this team for a while.

Yep. You can't expect Weeden to overcome mistakes like that.

Penalties didn't change the momentum. We lost because of coaching. We lost because the Cowboys coaches were too afraid to let Weeden wing the ball after the INT. We played not to lose. We played scared and we curled up like a little ball after the half.

We have had penalties like what we had against Atlanta before. But it never stopped us from winning.

That's because we had Romo . You can not commit penalties like that with a backup QB and have it end well. It's hard enough to do that with a starting QB let alone a backup.

Then lets address this with Witten who seems to move before the snap in every game.

Bet this leaves a bruise.

Penalties will kill almost any drive by an exposed short pass QB that can only muster 3 first downs in a half (1 by penalty & 1 in garbage time).

Whether we had Romo or not it was not the factor in why we lost. Watch the game again. We went a few times deep on first down which made Atlanta respect our receivers. That opened up the run game. Then we went into a shell when Weeden threw that INT. We simply got out coached.

I disagree. We lost because we are fielding a team of 2nd and 3rd stringers. Injuries matter. You take away any team's first string all-star QB and WR, starting LG, top 3 pass rushers on the DL, MLB, and #1 CB, and tell me which coaching staff in the NFL is going to win against this Falcons team?

I didn't like the conservative approach either - but in the big picture, Vince Lombardi would have had trouble on Sunday given the handicapped starting lineup that we fielded.

I said it ebfore, Witten does not need to start nor need to be in for every play. That solves some of the penalties. Now, we all agree Free needs to go. The rest is up to the coaches.

I had read a report that as a whole the NFL has more penalties than ever before, some coaches feel the lack of practice time put in place with the CBA is a main cause for this.
