We are stuck in purgatory at this point with Dak

Basically, we should've had Dak playing this way from the start. Would've resulted in less success initially, but Dak would be a better player at this point.

Comes back to one of our primary weaknesses, we simply do not develop players well. Mike White is a good example of that. We are so focused on the now, that we don't take the necessary steps to get better for the future.

I've thought about that a lot.

Basically, I think it's Dak trying to develop. As he was, strictly a game manager, he wasn't going to win it all. He had to learn to make throws that are uncomfortable to him, which I think is what we saw this season. Hanging around forever in the pocket is what was getting him hurt. He needed to get rid of the ball quicker, and I think that's why the INT's.
I think he watches other players that are more athletic than him and he thinks he can make those plays as well, especially when people around him tell him that….and the pressure of being overpaid.

It’s similar to the yes men Jerry hires telling him what a great job he does making him think he is capable of greatness that he isn’t.

And the truth is, we weren't going to go far w/ Dak playing safe ball. He needed to develop. He should've been making these mistakes his first couple years.

I think an OC that doesn't mirror his route concepts to Garrett and Linehan would be nice. I mean, it's one thing to say we were understaffed at WR, which we were. But I can show you the exact curl routes with all WRs in the formation, same as years ago. In the NFL!

Sure, but it was definitely an odd situation and transition.

I’ve been saying this for years and if it isn’t clear after Sunday it never will be….he has to be used correctly. He was best used in his rookie season.

As I write this I’m now reminded of the WR situation to start the 2018 season. I mean, what are doing? Why do they continue to think they can outsmart people that are so much more qualified than them? Because they have billions of dollars and they think life works that way?

I almost can’t even believe I got myself caught up in this.

And yeah Jerry I did like those SB, that of course was ALL YOU, but it wasn’t worth it. Not for this. Not for a lifetime of your ego.

Sorry OP….not directed at you. I’m worked up a bit. As many of us are.

anybody that’s still thinking Dak is the answer will STAY in argument mode in perpetuity.
No, Dak probably isn’t the answer, but for cap reasons they realistically can’t dump him for a year or two, and for Jerry reasons we may never dump him…

For now I can just hope they finally realize how to use him correctly, hire an OC that’s more friendly with that approach, and build around him as best they can despite his being paid like a guy who carries a team.

Draft or buy a WR, OLineman, RB…..I can’t see what else he needs to get over the hump

the defense balled Out against the Niners to hold them to just 19 points when they were averaging over 30.

the one good thing that I mentioned in another thread is that the Cowboys are the 4th youngest team in the NFL and that’s just one more reason not to blow this up

Needs to be used like a bus driver. Maybe a glorified one if he proves worthy.

That’s gonna make the owner look bad….the guy who still thinks it may be up for debate if he is a “football guy.”

We suffer due to semantics, ego, stubbornness, and delusion.

I tell you what really disappoints me. At the beginning of the season I would have said that Dak was a better quarterback than Trevor Lawrence. A player has to continue to make progress and now I would bet any amount that if Lawrence played for us against the Niners we win that game.

Dak hit a ceiling that is going to be hard to overcome,……I support him and every Cowboys player but I refuse to believe there will be postseason success with Rayne at the helm…..next year is season 8 for him

Dak is terrible.. and this team will never win a dam thing with him here. It was laughable when the announcers were talking about the pass to Gallup and it should've been thrown inside the hash. Just comical at this point. He threw 2 picks and 2 more should've went back the other way. Sure he's a nice guy, but he'll never hoist a Super Bowl trophy unless he's a backup at some point.

Dak's contract does not hinder anything. He literally has a base of 31 million next year. You can convert all of that to bonus and spread it out.

Don't act shocked when they do just that because this was the plan all along. The 49er game does not change that.
Why do we keep hearing about a $50m hit without restructuring & an extension beyond 2024?

I believe they will work out an extension, Jerry eluded to 10 more years after the Bucs game...they could lower his hit a ton if they really extend him.
