We are stuck in purgatory at this point with Dak

Amazing how quickly they forget what Jerry was like trying to find the next QB after Aikman. I can never forget the Quincy Carter debacle that Jerry forced on this franchise. Ill take Romo and Dak all day long as a gift.
That was a very dark stretch as a Cowboys fan. I ate a lot of crap around here.

Despite the notion that I am a Dak hater who wanted him gone years ago, I've never thought he was a terrible QB or he needed to be shot to the sun. I think for some fans it's tough to admit he might not be the guy because deep down you know how hard it is to find a franchise QB. You wanted Dak to be the guy, frankly, we needed Dak to be the guy.

But as the seasons come and go, it becomes a little bit clearer he's unlikely to be a championship caliber QB. The alternative is trying to find that next guy. No, it's not Rush. No, it's not Grier. It's some kid slinging balls in college or even high school at this point. Frankly, it could take years to find that guy after Dak is no longer our QB.

And that just sucks. Accepting the reality that Dak is likely not the guy means that we may have to experience sheer pain in trying to find the next guy. We lucked out that Dak turned out to be as good as he was being a later round pick. That happens quite infrequently. It's not a recipe for success that we should follow. However, just picking QBs in the first and second rounds doesn't guarantee immediate success either.

Contract wise Dak is here for a few more years. But his contract largely precludes the Cowboys from going out and bringing in proven playmakers in FA to give Dak enough to get him closer to succeeding. The draft is a crap shoot, and despite our successes in drafting, we have some failures too.

All this just adds up to purgatory. We are stuck. Stuck between sucking and being elite. Stuck between not making the playoff and getting bounced before a champ game. Stuck between dominating the NFC East and finishing back in the pack. It just sucks.

I won't toss Tolbert to the wolves since he was a rookie but for the love of God, if the Jones boys try to sell him as a solution at WR................ geezus.
For sure we need an RB who can play and a physical Deebo Like (I know they are not easy to find) WR in the draft, and we can change the scheme to help the defense. Thats really the best option i see to not just waste this defense the next 2 years.

Tolbert reminds me of Courtland Sutton, or maybe Michael Jenkins. A tall guy who is a #2 type, and lacks the traits to dominate. In Tolbert's case, he lacks explosiveness and has no snap to his breaks. Which means he's not going to be able to get open.

I frickin' hate it when we ignore the important traits that translate to the NFL and focus on height.

You know, he's got a pretty deep history of screwing up the WR roster over the years.
Does the same thing w/ the S position, drafting tall slow guys who can hit but can't cover.

I'd love to see Jerry try to define the terms "lateral agility" and "burst".

He would most likely educate you on his drunken lateral agility.
I'm afraid to witness any burst.

Just for fun I told 2 different guys at work that the cowboys were in trade talks to see if they could trade Dak to their respective teams. One was a Falcons fan and the other was a Bucs fan.

one guy had the look of sadness and impending doom when I told him and the other dude wanted to start throwing hands with me when I delivered that news

This is how bad this quarterback. situation is here. the debate is over and anybody who still believes in him probably thinks that eggs at $6 a dozen isn’t a problem either.

This was an outlier year for Dak with picks. He is usually a great game manager. Throwing Picks has not been his thing.
I can’t sit here and disagree with that.

What was he doing? Trying to compensate? I would suppose so.

That's all true but I would just say that Tony played at an MVP level in 2016 along with playing a great Divisional game vs the Packers with the difference being we were robbed at a chance to win on a historically bad call.

I think that team was our best chance to advance. We dominated the line of scrimmage with the offensive line and Demarco. Our time of possession led the league and Witten and Dez were a perfect compliment. The defense was still suspect and would've probably been our undoing but if you want to talk about snakebit that was the year.

I've thought about that a lot.

Basically, I think it's Dak trying to develop. As he was, strictly a game manager, he wasn't going to win it all. He had to learn to make throws that are uncomfortable to him, which I think is what we saw this season. Hanging around forever in the pocket is what was getting him hurt. He needed to get rid of the ball quicker, and I think that's why the INT's.

The picks are new but there were 2 different season that he led the league in fumbles

yeah, turnovers are in his DNA

there WERE 2 myths about Prescotta. He is no longer durable and he doesn’t protect the ball

the debate is closed.

Bah.............the Oline blocking poorly and Dak getting hammered around for fumbles isnt his fault. AGAIN that problem hasnt been an issue since.

More made up fodder for the Dak trolls.
