We are stuck in purgatory at this point with Dak

2 more years. I just hope the baffoons running this clown show do not extend him.
Jones does not see a buffoon whenever he looks at himself in the mirror. He always sees the best general manager to have ever been in the National Football League. Whether anyone else sees him for what he truly is does not matter to him enough to see anything different.

The smart thing to do is pick a guy in the first few rounds who you think can supplant Dak. It doesn’t matter what Dak’s contract is. Whether he thought rightly or wrongly, Jerry wasn’t prevented from Tony Romo becoming the most expensive backup in the league, and Jerry loved Romo. There is already a precedent set by Jerry himself, and the team would basically be playing its bargain QB who’s better while eating Dak’s contract for a few more years.

I don't get people who say the Jones aren't committed to winning above all else. They clearly are trying to build a winner, but they keep screwing up the negotiations and we get saddled with these terrible contracts. I can't remember the last contract that I felt was a good deal for the team. Maybe Tyron?
They aren't even committed to being in the facility for the first week of FA if it affects their family vacation plan. Let alone committed to winning.

If Jerry gave a crap about winning. He would have fired himself as the GM years ago. Fired Garrett after 3 back to back 8-8 seasons.

Despite the notion that I am a Dak hater who wanted him gone years ago, I've never thought he was a terrible QB or he needed to be shot to the sun. I think for some fans it's tough to admit he might not be the guy because deep down you know how hard it is to find a franchise QB. You wanted Dak to be the guy, frankly, we needed Dak to be the guy.

But as the seasons come and go, it becomes a little bit clearer he's unlikely to be a championship caliber QB. The alternative is trying to find that next guy. No, it's not Rush. No, it's not Grier. It's some kid slinging balls in college or even high school at this point. Frankly, it could take years to find that guy after Dak is no longer our QB.

And that just sucks. Accepting the reality that Dak is likely not the guy means that we may have to experience sheer pain in trying to find the next guy. We lucked out that Dak turned out to be as good as he was being a later round pick. That happens quite infrequently. It's not a recipe for success that we should follow. However, just picking QBs in the first and second rounds doesn't guarantee immediate success either.

Contract wise Dak is here for a few more years. But his contract largely precludes the Cowboys from going out and bringing in proven playmakers in FA to give Dak enough to get him closer to succeeding. The draft is a crap shoot, and despite our successes in drafting, we have some failures too.

All this just adds up to purgatory. We are stuck. Stuck between sucking and being elite. Stuck between not making the playoff and getting bounced before a champ game. Stuck between dominating the NFC East and finishing back in the pack. It just sucks.
I surrender I agree

The Cowboys will have paid him all his guaranteed money ($126M) at the end of the 2023 season.......
I am talking about signing an extension, not cutting him.

The Cowboys should absolutely sign him to an extension until that 2024 season. See how he fares in 2023 and part of 2024. Then make a decision.

In the last three games Dak got beat by a 5th round rookie QB and a last player chosen rookie QB, finding better than that isn't hard.
QB dont play each other. They play the defense. Once you learn that, come on back to the conversation.

Great Analysis !
I would rather really be bad and getting great draft picks with the hope of getting better like in the early 90's
Or have a great team , competing for the SB.
Being in between just stinks.

That's a pathetic reply. So you think Washington's defense is better than ours? San Fran is about even, I'd say. Dak was outplayed by two rank rookies, once you learn that, come back to the conversation.

Its an accurate reply? So are you claiming that Purdy is better than Dak? Is Dak better than Brady? LOL

Run along little one.

Guys, I'm as fed up and frustrated with Dak as the next fan but If we are being honest, we were closer to the prize with him than without him until we find someone better. We were ONE game from the NFCCG and 2 games from the Super Bowl. So you ask, who are we replacing him with that is better? I'm not saying there isn't anyone out there but who?

Some of these opinions are amusing. I get a kick out of them.

Just like I laughed at the fools predicting an easy Cowboys win against the Niners.

The time I cried the most during the game is when Pollard went out. The game was 100% over.

At that point me and my buddies enjoyed watching Zeke try to play football. The best was where he skipped into the air and then scooted out of bounds.
If anyone predicted an easy win they were certainly in the minority. But if you would have told me we’d hold them to 19 points I would have thought for sure we’d win. Cowboys Dak’d their pants again. Yea that’s my new term for it cause it is what it is.

Which makes it easier to trade or release him after the 2023 season. Frankly because of that fact, they should be drafting a QB in the first three rounds in THIS draft.

I'm for trying to find a better QB, they always should be drafting/looking for the next QB that may be better...but until they have a sure-fire better solution, Dak is gonna be the guy for awhile. Never know when that can change but you have to draft guys and try. That's how we got Dak and he Wally Pipp'ed Romo. Can happen to Dak too but not trying isn't going to get the team anywhere.

I guess you missed the bucs game? 300 yards and 5 TD's. Bucs got Dak'd. Cowboys got Zeke'd in SF.

They aren't committed to winning. They are committed to try to bring themselves the glory. If jerry was so sick and so committed to winning he'd get a GM and let that GM make football decisions. Instead we're stuck with the Jones boys hiring their besties for coaches.

We saw the tremendous difference once we brought in a real coach in Dan Quinn. The defense completely turned around and back to back 12 win seasons and the defense actually showed up in a tough game.

What will really happen? Quinn will get hired away. We get to keep the Jones boys besties in Kellen Moore and Mike McCarthy and the team sucks again.

Stephen Jones will try to play hardball with our talent and franchise tag them and then end up paying an obscenely higher price like with Demarcus Lawrence and Dak and even a Zeke. He will let key players go and replace them with 'bargains' who can only play 25% of the season because they are older and easily injured.

Then we're going to play musical chairs and continually blame the players for not executing going on 40 years of failure

Yes I’d think we could win. The pick on 2nd and 2 might have been the game. Dak was a deer in the headlights all game.
