We Doubled Down

Dude you can give up 600 yards in a game and still win. Give up 60 points and i guarantee you lost. Yards are whatever points are what matter
Outscoring an opponent doesn’t on its own measure the strength of a team.

Scoring measures winners and losers. I realize you want credit for participating but the Lombardi trophy only goes to the winner.
And what is the largest contributing factor leading to scoring points?

Then show me the NFL game lost by the team that scored the most. LOL You don't speak for the NFL.
You are missing the point.

Moving the ball and the chains down the field is largest contributor in scoring points which is a result of total yards and why NFL uses total yards as measuring stick.

There's plenty of concern being expressed as to whether the receiving corps will be able to "cut the mustard" or not. The only way we'll find out if that's true or not is to see how they produce when the pads come on. How well they do in TC and the preseason games will go a long way in determining if our concerns are justified or not. I think it'll take time before they're clicking well enough to contend. It could very well be midseason or so before that might occur. In the meantime, barring the unlikely acquisition of better receivers, there's no choice but to relax and enjoy the coming results as best we can.

Of course but that isn’t the topic of discussion.

Yards is nice but there's a reason the team with the most yards doesn't always win. Parcells was all about all 3 phases of the game and being fundamentally sound. Look at Romo, Witten, Ware.

Good post... I agree. Our defense needs to improve in order for us to win in the postseason. I think the 2018 defense is significantly better than 2016. Better edge rushers, better overall speed and athleticism at LBer, and more talent in the secondary.

The two spots that I am worried about on D are S and DT. We are pretty solid everywhere else.

I agree completely. That does look to be the case going into this season. But we might get lucky and be able to hide the lack of DT if LVE is worth his weight in salt, Jaylon improves, and most importantly, Lee stays healthy. Definitely worried about S. But overall we should see a vast improvement from 2016. I hope!

Also keep in mind this offense is not what we were in 2014. That's just an educated opinion, not necessarily fact since we don't know yet. But if I'm right we will definitely need the D to step it up.

Yes, Football is a sum sport . But yards which moves the chains with first downs is what leads to scoring and why total yards are the official measurement used.

There are contributing factors which effect like turnovers and why those are generally considered as the most influential.

Unless the team with the most yards wins 100% of the time—and they don’t—you’ve got a losing argument here. You can stick to it, and that’s fine, I don’t need to convince you otherwise, but there’s not a lot of point in going back and forth about it.

The discussion was why total yards is used as the official measuring stick for rankings of the NFL.

Crossing the goal line with the ball.
That’s the result . But what is the contributing factor which takes you down the field moving the chains in position to cross the goal?

I’ll try to step you threw how and why the NFL has always used total yards to rank defenses and offenses. Whether you agree or not with it is your prerogative.

Obviously total yards doesn’t always translate into winning the game and why other contributing factors weigh in.

NO! You pretended to speak for the NFL by saying, "the NFL disagrees". You don't speak for the league.

No again, you are missing the point. All points matter, whether it's a result of gaining yards or not. Total points scored is a greater stat than total yards.

That doesn't make "yards gained" the greater stat. There will never be a greater stat than "points scored".
