Although Spears and Carp may improve over the years. But they will never play to the potential of the position they were drafted.

These 2 guys at best are 5th round draft picks.

They were drafted where most thought they would be drafted. They may not be playing to that level but I don't think anyone can claim that Dallas reached in selecting them

Spears and Carpenter went where they were expected to go on draft day, it's unfortunate that we haven't seen the kind of performance out of either one of them that we had all hoped for considering they're both 1st rounders.

Carpenter was a pretty bad pick. i hope he turns it around. But he seems like a lazy no talent jerk at this point. He can’t even play special teams.
Carpenter has played on special teams during several games.

Exactly. They were not reaches at all. Not all 1st rounders work out. it happens and you move on.

Some people said the same thing about James a couple of years ago. I think fans a too quick to label a player a bust. I think they both are good playes. Not probowl players but good players. I dont worry about Spears but I think Carp. does concern me sometimes. I wasn't too thrilled with the pick and felt that Bill picked him because of who his father was and not to fill a team need.

I theorize that many on this board are still recovering from the mediocrity of the latter years of the 1990s/early years of this decade, when the Internets were just being invented and message boards/chat rooms were in their infancy.

Add that to the Madden video game franchise and ESPN highlight reels that promote the great plays but seldom the chinks in the armor of other team's players, then you have a recipe for a an unhealthy amount of criticism of one's own team.

Question why do people expect a bunch of sacks from 3-4 DE's or DT's the years Pitt's defense was so great there de and dt had a grand total combine 11 sacks from there 3 starters over 16 games. We rotate more linemen than they did.

The de and dt jobs in a 3-4 is to engage and tie up the oline to allow lb to roam free to make sacks and tackls people

Spears has basically been a starter since we drafted him, Carp on the otherhand has probably been inactive more than active. Carp was a BP feel good pick. it was and still is a big mistake.

Prior to Carp, BP's biggest busts were a 2nd rounder (Jacob Rogers) and a 3rd rounder (Stephen Peterman).

But man, the Carp pick hurts. Top round drafts picks are too valuable to waste like that.

I think Carps issue is he be better in a 4-3 and does not fit the 3-4 we run.

It's at about 650.00 a share, yeah that would have been nice to add to the portfolio when the IPO happened.

The Spears pick was solid and don't forget we also got arguably the best player in the entire draft in Ware.

I don't understand crap like this...

Lazy?

No Talent?

Jerk?

Where in the hell did you get that idea?

I can't remember anyone saying anything negative about Carp's work ethic, personality or talent when he was drafted.

But since he doesn't meet your expectations he's a lazy, no talent, jerk... ***?

What I do remember is Carpenter playing well in the win over Atlanta... and the playoff loss to the Seahawks.

Carpenter was simply drafted to a team where he doesn't fit. He isn't going to beat out any of the starters.

That doesn't make him lazy... doesn't mean he's some hack off the street... and most certainly doesn't make him a jerk.

He'll probably leave here and be a good player for a team like the Giants or something.

I wonder if you would have the nerve to walk up to the 6'2 257lb Bobby Carpenter on the street and call him a lazy, no talent, jerk to his face. I would pay to see that.

Ok, i was being a bit extreme last night in my intoxication. I don’t think he is a jerk. I do think that he doesn’t prepare well as a backup. You listed those games where he played alot or started. I think when he knows he has to step up, he does the film study. Hopefully the light will come on for him this season and he will make plays.

I know the unspoken rule is to give a draft pick 3 years to evaluate, but I think Wade has seen all he needs to see from Carpenter and will ship him out either as a package deal or for additional picks this coming off-season. He just doesn't seem too enthusiastic about Carpenter. In a press conference, Wade said something to the effect of, "Carpenter is a hard worker, but he is having problems fitting in. I hope it works out for the guy." I am too lazy to pull up the original but that is the basics of it. If he isn't packaged to move up in the draft or to get a big time FA WR, then I think he will be traded for a 3rd or 4th round pick, and that pick will be used to get a real ILB for the 3-4 defense Wade is running.

I was hoping Carp might break into the pass defense packages this year at the least. And Wade sounded as discouraging as I've heard him be about a player.

What are the problems keeping him from playing? Beyond the obvious of he sucks, he has no talent, he's not good enough....for those in the internet peanut gallery. Is it toughness physically...mentally, not enough speed? No football instincts? What?
