Good post. I would like to add that this whole "win now" and "he gives us best chance to win" has only worked in theory. IMO we should have brought in Bledsoe to backup Henson and start from bottom.... YOU HAVVE TO ANYWAYS IN NFL... we CONTINUE(I repeat CONTINUE) to AVOID starting from the bottom up at that position. It is costing us time/years. Before you know it we are gonna have a 15+ year drought on our hands.
It is absolutely ridiculous to say that ANYONE(BP or JJ or the best QB talent evaluator) to say that Henson doenst have "It" or "he is not the one" or "he cant handle the pressure of playing QB" - WE DONT KNOW... throw him in there like the Giants did with Manning... albeit different situation coming out of college(Henson has not sat out 2 seasons) GET HIM IN THERE...

Great stuff from Tek2000...

Check out, under Miscellaneous, on the left hand side at the bottom...Henson...

His first game in 4 years...vs Baltimore...they were trying to preserve the shut out...he was being blitzed...he performed well...

In fact, he fumbled on his first snap...and didn't come apart at the seams...

And if you look at one of the plays where he is blitzed again...he avoids it...and while being hit...sorta just flicks his wrist and gets the ball downfield 50 yards or so...while not having his feet under him.

Now, before a QB debate erupts...My only point is, the kid has undeniable talent...anyone who watches these clips and doesn't see it is blind.

True, but I can't imagine it being at the rate the 2002 team was. I think the main difference is that the guys on this roster that will be gone in 3 years will be due to age. Unlike the 2002 roster with guys like Hawthorne, Hambrick, etc who just weren't good enough to begin with.

Rich...........

Never disputed that he brought in to make team better. He got rid of dead weight. We are better. How much? Is it sufficient for 3 years? BP says a player has to show he can play in 3 years... what about a coach?

Yes. Agreed. I also remember him throwing a TD(flicking wrist) in redzone around the 3 or 4 yardline. He was calm and cool. I am disappointed that we dont know more about him.

Here is his profile. It mentions the "wrist thing"

Being that we may never see him play here is something I came across - His Draft Profile.

Drew Henson, QB Michigan 6-4, 223

ANALYSIS

Positives: Confident field general with a strong personality … Tough and durable, absorbing punishing shots without ever being knocked out of a game … Has fine delivery and passing mechanics, hitting receivers in stride on timing patterns … Keeps his cool under pressure … Very quick driving away from the center while setting up, showing the body control needed to throw on the move … Carries the ball chest-high and is always ready to throw … Has quick wrist action in his delivery and the power behind his tosses so he does not have to plant in order to throw the deep passes … Knows how to adjust his release based on angles taken while throwing … Can drill the ball in the seam playing the short-area passing game and keeps receivers within their routes by feathering the ball to them on long bombs … Shows good backside awareness rolling out of the pocket … Scans the field effectively and throws with impressive velocity in the intermediate and short range … Can also hold for placements. Negatives: Tends to lock onto his primary receivers too much … Looks too long at his primary targets, taking unnecessary punishment when the pocket collapses, rather than throwing the ball out of bounds to prevent a turnover … Needs to improve his timing patterns to prevent receivers from having to adjust and turn constantly on routes … Will need a little refinement in his delivery, as he does not open and close his shoulders quickly … Overthrows at times on fades and post patterns … Availability is under review, as he is still under contract to the New York Yankees baseball organization.

I'm only gonna weigh in on one of these....

I read, often, how our QB is fine if we put together a good offensive line.

I have a problem with this.

First off, just about ANY NFL QB is good with a good offensive line. You give a back up NFL QB time to throw and alot of them will pick a defense apart....especially given the new rules that don't allow DB's to play a physical game.

Now...my issue with Bledsoe (who btw, I think did an ok job)....we can't get by with an average offensive line and Bledsoe....we can't get by with a good offensive line and Bledsoe....because of his complete lack of mobility AND habit of fumbling when being sacked, we need a VERY good offensive line.

Unless we luck out with some draft picks, this is gonna cost mucho $$$$....and that's mucho $$$$ that could be spent elsewhere...

My issues with Bledsoe and Parcells bringing him to Dallas is that he forced our hand because he is so immobile.

I went to the 2003 Monday night game vs the Giants. Prior to that game, I had supported Hutch...Not QC....but after the game, I understood why Parcells went with QC. Our offensive line was not good and we needed a QB who could avoid the rush...not necessarily scramble all over the field because for all his mobility, QC was never a particularly good runner...but a guy who could make a couple of moves in the pocket to buy time...it allowed us to get by with an average offensive line.

Bledsoe forces our hand. He is SO bad in the pocket that we are going to need an extremely good offensive line so long as he is behind center.

So, from my standpoint, our QB position IS a problem. Regardless of the fact that he actually put up decent numbers. He LIMITS how we can play the game...he limits our offensive game planning and if we are to give him the protection he requires, he's gonna be a serious draw on the cap.
oh but we did get by with a decent line. When Flo was in there, who were tthe top 5 passers? With a decent line, Bledsoe willbe fine. When hes under pressure all day long, nobodies gunna look like Peyton Manning!

I would take the opposite view here and say we can get by with a decent line for 2 reasons.
1) we have seen it in the past. first 5 games of the season.
2) Bledsoes not a damn marble statue weighing 13 tons. Hes mobile enough to roll out. Hes mobile enough to step up in the pocket. hes not using a walker back there and you know it.

For all the worries on Bledsoe, hes shown no sign of warrenting this. hes shrugged off shoulder tackles, hes taken hits and not fumbled (you guys make it sound like if you breath on him he drops the ball).

Really, for whats out there, I am not sure we could do alot better, and we could do a lot worse for sure. Till we have the next golden boy, Bledsoes a capable quarterback.

Where is the joke in there?

Do you have any proof he cant play?

Growing pains... gonna have to go through them with a young QB sometime...

How long are you willing to wait?

Well there is a little problem with that. Even if he goes. It really doesnt matter how he does... its about acclimating him to real game time situations, scenario's... by no means is the deciding factor whether he plays in nfl or not....

some of these are so bad that the QB is running for his life most of the time... cannot be effective

What's it going to be then, eh?

Ok I am gonna go there... how many of those 11 loses were because of Campo and his poor coaching... I dunno lets say 3 or so games... all BP did was win those games(smarter coach I will give him that... not much change there....

I beg to differ.

Each year we had opportunities to win in that regime. I can recall two to three games a year that we simply lost because of poor game management and play calling (such as the time he forgot the score against Denver).

There was a year or two in there were 5-11 could have easily been 8-8.

If he can't play well vs poorer talent then he surely can't play in the nfl.
