We have the best secondary in the league.

Not to Newman bash but... Elite CB's intercept the ball.. Newman can cover, but he does not put fear into the mind of a QB. Simply because he doesn't go for the ball.. I think Jerry should of spent his money on A. Samuels.. For the above reason and because of his age..

I don't know about best secondary in the league, but it sure is deep enough

we have 4 quality corners now: Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, Mickens, and Allan Ball is a pretty good 5th corner

quality starters at free and strong safety: Hamlin and Sensy, with backups for each: DeAngelo Smith and Michael Hamlin

largely the success of our secondary is built on young guys, 3 of our 4 corners have less than 2 years of experience, and the backups at safety are rookies, but I like what we've assembled so far

I don't know if we've got the best secondary, honestly, but I think we've got the potential to have a better secondary than we did last year. A lot of factors yet to be seen to determine that but I do like the potential for this secondary to be better.

Best secondary in the league I doubt that. I think a secondary can only be so good with out having a consistent pass rush. D ware consistent he's great we need someone else on the other side off the ball to step it up. Spencer hasn't lived up to his draft status so far yet I'm not ready to throw him under the bus this is his year though. I don't see how there's any chance of greg ellis being a cowboy so I won't factor him into the equation.

With the concerns about pass rush aside lets break down player by player.

Tnewman straight ballin.
Scandrick was superb his rookie season should start along side newman.
Mickens hopefully he can be the scandrick of this draft.
Smith hopefully he can be the scandrick of this draft.
Jenkins I knew I was forgetting someone....we should of never drafted this punk.

Onto the safeties.

Hamlin = trash
Hamlin = trash
Sensabaugh jury is still out on him.

I don't see how you can offer up any excuses for Ken Hamlin and expect to see the 07 Hsmlin. Honestly I would love to do business with some of you guys yall straight classic suckers. Hamlin had a career year in 07 oh look it was also a contract year gee what surprise....the only injury he suffered last year was laughing his *** to bank.

I already know what some of you guys are going to say c'mon man you bitter TO got cut blah blah blah you're really down on tthe cowboys blah blah blah do we have to show your draft thread blah blah blah. You said the cowboys would go 5-11 blah blah blah here's some kleenex blah blah blah. Just save it and think about or secondary long and hard.

:laugh2: We have 4 quality corners.....are you serious?

We have one. Scandrick had a nice rookie year; the jury is still out on whether he's going to be a quality player. Jenkins showed potential to make plays, and also the ability to dive out of the way of tackles. And Mickens, a 7th rounder is a "quality corner"? You've got to be kidding me.

I also can't fathom how anyone would think Ken Hamlin is a quality player.

Our secondary has one good player, surrounded by a bunch of question marks and JAGs.

you're right DoubleTrouble, the Cowboys suck, horrible, losers, the next 0-16 team
Of course not. We got 12 rookie Pro Bowlers in this draft, including Mickens, the next Mel Renfro.

Obviously, we now have the most talented roster in the league.

I'm sorry that you're so bitter

btw, I mentioned neither best, nor most talented, I just said our secondary is deep, and even qualified it to temper enthusiasm on it, that alot of it is dependent on unproven players

Anyone who recognizes my moniker knows I'm a big fan of optimism, particulary, when it's directed towards the Cowboys. But saying we have the best secondary in the league is a bit of a reach.

I know, we were 5th in the league, blah, blah, blah, but that was last year and we are not the only team that has improved over the offseason, nor do we have the only players that will play better than they did last year. And since different players improve at different speeds, and pass coverage extends beyond the talent of the secondary, I would have to say annointing this team #1 is just a little homeristic...and that's difficult for me to say, because I have a tendency to be a homer myself...

Tidbit on Lunchbreak about the safeties.

After Louis Delmas, Pat Chung, and Jairus Byrd went off the board early in the second, Nick Eatman went up to Brett Maxie the Safety Coach and said all your safeties are gone, are there any safeties left; and asked about Rashad Johnson.

Maxie said Rashad Johnson was kind of a nickel guy, not your every down safety. Nick asked if there were any good safeties left and Maxie said yeah, Michael Hamlin.

with 2 younguns like Jenkins and Scandrick and 1 new guy we havent even seen in a Cowboys helmet and 3 late round rookies ....ill hold off on the "Best" comments

but I do think its unfair to hammer K Hamlin.....yes he missed 2 HUGE tackles in the Balt game....but he was coming off Ankle sprain he had been playin on cause we were short on bodies....over all hes been a solid safety since hes been here....

TonyRomo#9

right, hamlin is 1 year removed from a probowl season and these guys are calling him trash.

i also had a good chuckle at the guy who said the jury is out on sensabaugh, but that the new hamlin is trash.. lol so the guy who has played isn't known, but you know hamlin2 allready

Terence Newman is an elite player.

Again, if anyone doesn't like Dallas' secondary, go root for the Chargers and come back and tell me how you like their secondary.

Look at where the Chargers ranked last year.

Also, if you are going to attack Terence Newman, can that one poster please spell his name right.

Pressure will make a defense look good. Shawne Merriman healthy and on roids made the Charger seconday look good. Our guys had put up a pretty awesome sack total last year. I think that could have attributed to the high ranking in the secondary.

The fact the defense allowed 4.2 per carry is another thing. When teams see that, why pass? If I were a team I would run the ball keeping the offense off the field not giving it any opportunity to get into any rythmn.
